I think Shen’s death is fitting. The movie was all about the choices you do to make your own path. Po was presented the choice to make his sad beginning with a happy ending and went through with it. In the beginning, the prophecy said IF Shen continued down the path he would be defeated by a warrior of black and white, and he chose the path to his defeat. Because of killing all the pandas he thought his parents hated him but later the Goat told him his parents loved him, and sending him away killed them in grief. He could’ve chose to walk away then, but in the scene he continued to choose the path, nodding to himself trying to convince himself that he was making the right choice by looking into the future instead of the past, letting the goat free. Then in the end, Po said the whole thing about wounds healing, allowing yet another opportunity for him to turn around, but he chose to fight again, and he was the one who cut all the ropes that led to his own demise.
You illustrated it perfectly with the concept of how the movie portrays choices with Shen. I'd add in detail that Shen is constantly clinging to the choice of having China because he feels it was his path to happiness as he lost that feeling of contentment. He clings to it as a hope to fulfil himself. Even that, it can be argued at the end he could have made the attempt to avoid being killed when he cut the ropes and caused the cannon to fall. However he doesn't, he chooses to accept his death.
I believe he was ready to die for a long time, and the only other option he believed he had to be happy was to conquer as was his whole motivation. Failing that and to even end Po in their last fight, he simply lost any reason to keep persisting and accepted his end. Again, choosing to not even turn around when given the chance then.
It's also worth mentioning that Shen himself is black and white, so the prophecy was still fulfilled.

It's amazing how this movie can make a peacock so scary. I love Po's struggle to find his true self and inner peace, and that "Po Finds the Truth" sequence in the panda village is so beautiful, yet so heartbreaking.
I feel bad for Boss Wolf. He really didn’t want his brethren to die, he really believed he was serving a good cause. The way he said “no” at the end showed how much he realized all at once that Shen didn’t care about his henchmen. Not a good mob boss. Boss Wolf really went out like a G though.

Tigress could definitely be 26, maybe a little older. Based on an origin story we get for her in a series of animated shorts, Shifu found her at a very young age and brought her back to the Jade Palace, where she could’ve started her Iron Wood Tree training pretty soon after that. She looked about 6 or so in the short.

I actually love Shen, and the way his death was filmed. He was offered a choice..He made the wrong one, and died by his own demise..A warrior of Black and White wasn't Po...It was Shen who forged his destiny and unintentionally settled it on the right path.
And in the end - he accept his death. He agrees to die on his own terms, welcoming death with open arms, even though I bet he could've walk away...But he decided that it was enough with running from his destiny..And he let his own creation destroy him...
Tai Lung was a good villain, but he was terribly ridiculed in the end.
Shen on the other hand died as a true villain..His death was serious and tragic..

You should definetly watch the 3rd movie! Although it is a bit weaker than this one imo, it's a great movie with a great message once again. Also, a 4th movie is in the works and is currently set to release in July 2024, so definitely look out for that one!
Also after you've finished this trilogy, you should definitely also check the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy. Another peak trilogy of Dreamworks imo.

Shen's future foretold that a warrior in black and white would defeat him. In his efforts to control and change this fate, he ultimately brought it to himself. But in his last moments, his desire and need to control his fate still persevered which led him to let the cannon kill him instead of Po, the warrior of black and white.
Shen's more cold than Tai Lung! Tai Lung just wanted to become the Dragon Warrior. Shen killed an entire race of pandas!

To be honest in my opinion Shen is defenetly Miles better than any other Kung Fu Panda villain (his story, humor, design, his fancy fighting style and also the fact that they really made an animal like peacock that menacing and scary). And his death was also really well portraited, although he lost (literaly everything, even his revange) he was just too far to just stop the madness so in the end he just kills himself (you can see that he’s cuting the ropes on purpose and when the canon is falling on him he just close his eyes and accepts his death. In the end the prophecy was just a metaphor, he was in the end defeated by the warrior of black and white but in a way that isn’t straight up Po defeating him in a fight (it’s just like Oogway has said in the first movie).

A theory I have is that the "Warrior in black in white" was never even Po. It was Shen.
Shen has black and white colors, and is a "warrior" technically. Po never killed Shen, thus Shen was killed by his own creation.
