The newly elected mayor, Kathleen Kennedy, has put in motion 14 additional Star Wars movies to be made by Sir Rian Johnson to resurrect the franchise and bring it back to it's #1 spot in the fans' hearts. In other news, a porg has just become the state bird and green milk has been nominated #1 chemical agent to combat og Star Wars fans from liking any reboots.

      You nailed it! That is the big lesson to learn from all of this. Bob Iger and Disney thought they could slap "Star Wars" on a jar of mayo, film that for 2 hrs, and we would all wait in line to see it opening night. And then come back for the sequels. They completely underestimated how much energy, time, thought, creativeness, innovation, love, care, and detail George Lucas put into Star Wars. And that is why Star Wars was always so great. But this is Disney, quality is last on the list now. "Star Wars fatigue" my ass, Marvel pumped out 22 movies and the final film broke the box office records. ...The only thing people got fatigued from was s**t ass story writing.

    • @FlyingFocs
      @FlyingFocs Před 5 lety +9

      @@henrycaspersen1495 I've heard some people say that this is all a misunderstanding and that once the block is lifted and the Florida park opens, it will be a success "because it's Star Wars."
      And you know what, that might be true. Maybe it will get more attendance. But will it be able to hold it? "Because it's Star Wars" doesn't seem to have the weight it once did. There is so much entertainment nowadays, and on different platforms, and for a younger generation that's growing up with Star Wars as a more constant presence in theaters that to them, it might come off as just another franchise. That's one possibilily I feel is very likely.
      And the prices. There is a limit that even a die hard fan will say "no, I am not paying that."

Also, it’s not that no one goes there. It’s that a good percentage of people are pass holders, and to assist with the crowds, Disney has blacked out every date for pass holders for a while. Also, ticket prices are at peak season, meaning they are extra expensive. Once it’s September and pass holders can go and tickets are less expensive, then everyone’s gonna be going. Also I was there an had tons of fun. It’s not just a mall. Smugglers Run feels like 3 different rides because each role (pilot, gunner, and engineer) feels so different! They need to do what Battlefront 2 (2017) has done: mix up the eras a bit. In Battlefront 2 you can play as Sequel, Prequel, and OT characters, all across those three eras. Yeah it’s not as immersive, but it’s super fun and really makes the game feel like Star Wars (when it works).
    When you play as a clone and see Anakin barge past you into oncoming fire you can’t help but get excited, and when you play as Vader and come across that same Anakin it can be awesome to duel him and determine who is greater. The game is not exactly in an excellent place due to bugs but goddamn if I don’t feel like I’m part of the Star Wars universe.
    There isn’t anything bad about trying to get people excited about the sequels, but Disney has to remember that older fans would seriously prefer the original trilogy or even the prequels when visiting a Star Wars park. The issue a lot of people had with Battlefront was that it only focused on one third of the Star Wars films, something that its sequel has started gaining heat for with over a year of prequel content, and the same thing is happening with Galaxy’s Edge. They’re focusing too much on just one part of the enormous franchise that is Star Wars

      And yet with all of their designers and people working on a land that cost a BILLION dollars they couldn't figure out in advance what you just summed up easily in one sentence. Disney is becoming a huge corporate idiot and lacking the vision we've always associated with Disney and Disneyland/World. But even more important the heart. Why? You can't just have yes men and women, you have to have the person who says what you just said in that sentence so that billion dollar mistakes don't happen. Also, the company has to be smart enough to listen to someone who actually has the courage to say the equivalent of the Emperor has no clothes on. In a company even one as rich as Disney, a billion dollar mistake is hard on it, and just so easily avoidable if you don't just have corporate types planning these things. There has to be heart there too, actual interest and caring about a project. Real aficionados of the project they're working on. Not just graphs and projections about how many people the new land is going to draw in. Well said Erik, too bad you couldn't have been at one of their early board meetings about Star Wars land. 😉

If you ask me the fact that Disney did this should be even more embarassing because its really like a Disneyland where they dont bother to include Mickey Mouse, Goody and Donald Duck. Why would they think their Star Wars The Force Awakens (which relied completely on the nostalgia of the original movie) would be able to function on its own? I cant even read their backstory because the author who wrote it (Chuck Wendig) makes every other Star Wars writer I know of sound like a genius in comparison. I have read most of the Expanded Universe and even the bad stuff was more interesting than whatever ideas Wendig had for the First Order to have the financial resources of building Death Star sized superweapons without the govt resources of the Empire (former Old Republic). And to be honest the idea is too stupid to be realistic and it gets even worse as the "Resistance" is supposed to be Resisting the New Republic pacifism which was completely erased in The Last Jedi where they are called Rebels and I cant for my life understand what they Rebel again because the First Order is NOT the Govt and it was only hours after they blew up the New Republic on planets nobody knew what they were or what they meant for the rest of the Galaxy. And this is supposed to be the Disney CANON? Are they kidding?

      @@TheCultureCommentary Yes, it will become more muddled and a mess the more they try to keep it all going. There's that old saying of too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the stew. Lucas had a clear vision and even he couldn't hold onto the passion it takes to make films like the original 3. I hope I don't sound awful to say that by Return of the Jedi I felt he'd already lost his passion for the stories and that film reflected that. Not to mention the 3 prequels that followed. But people keep begging for more Star Wars, Star Trek, and superhero films again and again. So they don't really care about the quality or if it makes sense. Just will it bring people to theaters or Disneyland to spend their money there. At the risk of this becoming an even longer comment. I will say this, that not all people are this stupid about things. I like the tv series Friends and one of the original writers and creators of the show said people are always clamoring for a reboot now. I liked what he said in answer to them, that there are 10 great seasons of it and let's leave it at that. We as a society are confusing more with better. This new land they've built will probably work out ok for them in the long run. But to fans that actually care, it and the new sequels would have been better left on the drawing board.

      @@Stardustceiling I dont know if you know/remember but "Friends" was smeared in media for lack of racial diversity and for making gay jokes so the originals cant even be presented to liberals today. Thats why corporations would to re-make it. Problem is a new "woke" Friends wont have the stories or the characters. It wouldnt be Friends at all, they would just rely on the name-recognition the same way they have done with fake-brands like Ghostbusters2016, Oceans 8 and Star Trek Discovery (STD) who all not only have nothing in common with the originals but often are run by people who dont even like the originals in the first place and think they are gonna "fix" them. This is obviously what happened to Star Wars with EP8 "The Last Jedi" Ruin Johnson did not like Star Wars, he did not even like EP7 "The Force Awakens" which JJ Abrams made and did not even bother with continuity resulting in the good guys called "Resistance" in EP7 and then without explanation called "Rebels" in EP8 even though the First Order is not the Govt and there are only hours between the two movies which makes it impossible for them to have anything to "Rebel" against. Remember the New Republic govt was just recently destroyed in The Force Awakens... that was hours ago. The "First Order" cant in any way have replaced them and became the New Empire. "The Last Jedi" simply is braindead even when ONLY compared to Disneys own "The Force Awakens". Disney Star Wars sucks - even compared to itself.

    There are 2 variables to why Disney parks (especially Galaxy's Edge) isn't doing well, the first being how much they jacked up the price, to where getting a 1 day/1 park ticket today is $150, and a 1 day park hopper is $200, if you're staying for longer, it's gonna cost you even more, with just a slight decrease in price for each day. This makes going to the parks unreasonable for non pass holders, which only make up around 30-40% of the overall guests that would visit the parks. The other major problem Disney seemed to ignore is that Galaxy's Edge, though based on a popular franchise, is a land that doesn't fit with the rest of the park. Each other land within Disneyland is based not on a franchise, but on a general theme, and the rides themselves represent the franchises. Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Critter Country, Main Street USA, and Toontown are all based around a general theme, to which going too them isn't geared to a specific fan base, but instead to the general public. This is why Disneyland was so successful, because up until Galaxy's Edge, it didn't matter what you were a fan of, you could visit any part of the park and find rides and attractions you enjoy, even if you say, don't like peter pan, you can just go across the road and ride Snow White. With Galaxy's Edge though, they have to rely on a specific fan base, a fan base that isn't just divided, but over half of whom wouldn't even want to go to Disneyland, so now Disney has to deal with trying to attract non SWs fans to that specific land that adds even more expensive shit on top of the already expensive ticket prices.

      @MichaelJaeYT  Před 5 lety +4

    I think Disney assumed that simply saying "Star Wars" or referencing Star Wars is a golden ticket, and that they didn't need to worry about the story, characters, etc.. While it would be VERY expensive, they should have a separate Star Wars theme park, dividing it into "Episodes", and each "Episode" have areas from the corresponding episode (e.g. the Senate Chamber in Episode I, Hoth in Episode V).

However, a lot of people in the park that I overheard talking about galaxys edge said they wouldn’t come back until after the main ride was opened. I also think Disney scared everyone away by saying it’d be overcrowded, because two days before galaxys edge opened there were 60+ minute waits for essentially every ride. The toy sales thing says a lot, Original Trilogy fans (which doesn't mean they don't like the new stuff) are the ones that regularly spend money on star wars, now i'm not saying put Boba Fett or Han Solo's face on everything and they will get money, but put familiar faces there to embrace old fans as well, drop the damn prices a little bit and put more than 1 damn ride. Disneyland's primary attendance numbers come from locals who live near the park, not tourists. They account for a good chunk of the over one million annual passholders. Those local's annual passes were blocked out for the summer. The very day that their passes were blocked, attendance numbers plummeted. Once their passes are unblocked, attendance numbers will surge again. The average guest who goes to Disneyland isn't going there for Galaxy's Edge. That is just part of the overall experience. They will go in, ride the Millennium Falcon ride, look around and move on to another part of the park. Galaxy's Edge was never meant to be a stand alone attraction, it is part of the overall Disneyland experience. I get that there are some Star Wars fans that aren't happy with the way that Disney has treated the franchise, but to think that somehow the angry fans are going to shutdown Disneyland is laughably insane. Galaxy's Edge is a fun place to be there's just not much there right now and I think there's still a lot more that they can do if they choose to invest more time into it. For example: A Star Wars zoo with animatronics of creatures would be a great way to spend more time there.

    I haven't made it in that far but I'd like to rebuke one statement, that later on in the evening the area is fairly empty being a sign that it is failing. This happens at all Disney parks and isn't exclusive to one or the other. Every park has an evening fireworks display, which means most of the guests leave the various lands and amass in the viewing areas for the spectacle. For those who have seen the fireworks display or are just not that interested, this is the best time to visit the the different lands and try to catch a quick queue to a ride that has been backed up all day. The lands empty out rather nicely and let you have some breathing room to just explore. Many guests also leave after the display, so it never really picks back up as it was earlier in the day.
