Gotta respect the networking skills tho 😅
Bro what are you doing here?! ❤️🔥🤣
Louaista X mattyballz livestream collab drop?
@@yehhhhhh234hope not, louaista just be saying shit. Way different than what Matty does.
literally emailed and asked to be on tour and got a yes.......sure okay
@@slowdownex Idk why but your reply is funny asf
I'm glad he didn't try and lie his way out of it, respect ❤
No. Just because he was honest about it doesn't make it okay. He's a cultural appropriator and he doesn't deserve to be rewarded for that. He's doing what every white boy is doing these days. Instead of creating their own organic art, they become "rappers" as a cheat code to success. Post Malone did it too. Use the Hip Hop style and imagery as a gimmick (disrespectful) until you've gained some followers, and once they've done that they change to the style of music they actually planned to make all along, crappy derivative white "rock" or "emo" trash. You don't praise someone for being a fake, cultural appropriating vulture just because they choose to be honest about it LONG AFTER THE FACT.
Still a fake rapper. This guy's the real life Malibu's most wanted.
@@jbmp1390 I always find it funny when people say that rap gets culturally appropriated. Rap as a genre has always been taking stuff from other cultures, kind of hypocritical don't you think?
@@suicidejon How exactly can you be a fake rapper? I get you can be a fake gangster but how you can be a fake rapper? He is still rapping.
@@gandalainsley6467 that’s a good point. Yes he’s rapping, but he’s a fake SUCCESSFUL rapper. Instead of organically earning success he cheated his way to the top. This means he hasn’t had the chance to prove his actual skills and be vetted by fans and colleagues. We really have no idea who this dude is. A crucial part of rap & hip hop culture is authenticity and it kinda sucks that we aren’t really getting that anymore from our current stars
I wish my parents would help me buy a Carti feature
real
Lololo
Let me catch my son saying he wants a carti feature pshh
Your videos are legendary G
@@wecameasdonuts aye thank you
It’s rare to find people in this situation who identify how their parents helped them out. Most would rather chalk it up to work ethic or talent. Some people just straight up lie not only to others but themselves too. This guy did the honorable thing and it’s working for him. Commenters are always ready to slice up a spoiled kid who thinks they did it on their own. But this guy is getting positive feedback because he’s transparent.
So many artist come from well off families that already had connections. 🎉🎉
i liked when he was like "i delivered pizza for a while thinking it'd make people respect me, but no one gave a shit" like yup, you got it my guy, we do not give a shit. reminded me of that pulp song, 'common people:'
_But still you'll never get it right,
'Cause when you're laid in bed at night, Watching roaches climb the wall,
If you called your Dad he could stop it all._ (chorus where he's all like 'you'll never live like common people' lol)
also it's always pizza delivery with rich kids lol, they can call dad for gas money and car repairs lol
Yea even Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Dua Lipa pretend like Daddy wasn't there lol
I have never heard a song with this guy and honestly I’m not interested. But I respect his transparency, a lot of people are ashamed to admit when their family boosted their career. To me I don’t see anything wrong with it if I had connections like that why wouldn’t I use it?
hater
Nah fr lol everyone acts like if they had rich ass parents they would be so humble and not accept any money from them like yea ight 💀
@@ivanthepersonIt's mostly jealousy. They wish they had rich parents.
of course its jealous lmao imagine being so rich you could get your parents to pay for you to pretend to be an artist
His song throw me away is actually really good. Hes doing kind of a pop punk thing and you can really tell he has experience in that scene
Honestly Smilez gained a fan with how he agreed to your interview and answered questions seemingly honestly. I can appreciate that, imma check out his music I think. Dunno if I wil like it, but he see seems like a cool guy.
def
You ain’t the only one
Yeah; might not be music for me, but I can respect an artist who isn't faking it, and 100% admits and puts respect on who helped him; even if that is his parents. Way better than getting that help then turning around and lying.
I feel like getting snoop dogg as a feature isn’t that impressive, he’ll jump on pretty much any track for money
I agree but it has to be really expensive right?
@@KlwPvPi think he once said that he charges 250k for a feature and another 250k for a video so yea pretty expensive
@@olethdr damn seems like a dumb investment at that price. It doesnt even guarantee you a career afterwards.
@@KlwPvP yea i dont know snoop isnt that relevant anymore so he could've invested it better
He does appearances for $5k. His manager puts it out on IG all the time so I doubt he’s getting $250k for a verse
Can’t even be mad. At least he invested the money into something tangible instead of blowing it on cocaine and pointless bs. I actually liked his punk music, kinda have to respect the hustle at this point🫡
He probably did blow coke as well
@@zz_boo I mean, most likely 🤣 but he didn’t let it bankrupt him or drive him completely into the ground.
i mean i cant really blame him for having parents that have money lol
Honestly this is the most realistic way of becoming an artist. If anyone had parents who were willing to help their careers, they would and should use that resource combined with the money and connections they’ve made on their own.
Fr.
I respect that he tried even if he was covered financially, it takes guts to put yourself out there like that in front of the whole world. Thats not even mentioning getting in front of crowds and performing.
Man earned our respect. Hopefully he gets succesful someday.
fuck that, dude doesn't have to struggle a day in his life, he could just live of his parents and make music for fun, he doesn't need the money
Matty you are going the distance with this interview. The first industry plant video segment with smilez has some great comedic moments, and this sequel doesn't disappoint. Keep it up!
thank you!
That was a really cool story! Thanks for making these videos. I really enjoy watching them and I am sure you put a lot of work into these. You ROCK my man!
Even if I’m not interested in the topic, I usually watch just cause you’re good at telling the story.
I picked this video to fall asleep to because I thought I wouldn't be very interested, but I was paying too much attention to be able to fall asleep 😅
Fire you got an interview with him and asked him the tough questions!! Respect for u bro!
Honestly I got respect for him. Seems humble and honest. 🤷♂️
people can say what they want about his parents help, even if my parents had money they probably wouldn't pay for me to get a feature lmao and he did prove himself through his networking skills thats a big thing that helps in all industries that he did on his own! props to him
Really cool follow up and interview. You scooped Smilez and honestly the "complicated" truth was as fascinating as anything we could have made up. And he does seem like a really down to earth and hard-working guy.
Great job!
There is a Russian rapper called Timati who is considered one of the OG's of Russian rap and he did a similar thing. He did collabs with Snoop Dogg ,Xzibit and Busta Rhymes and paid them all for features too. He did it so he seemed "more legit" because he is a rich kid who grew up in the most expensive part of Russia.
Welcome to st tropez was the bomb when I was in 4th grade
When I hear “the most expensive part of Russia” I still envision above ground pools.
It’s this deep it needs TWO Mattyballz videos? I’m intrigued.
I saw him perform live back in 2018 when he opened for Juice WRLD and the crowd was still the entire time during his performance. Then I saw him again like 9 months later and he opened for Pump and Skies and had the crowd going crazy, so I thought he might have been able to get something going… guess not
This was back when he went by Jack Bruno
He was opening for Pump and Skies - that entire scene evaporated
Mattyballz always bringing the heat 💪
This kind of video reminds me of Progresss, a guy I used to watch a lot before he disappeared; he did a lot of deep dives and I’m glad to see more videos like these! 😊
u gotta respect it at that point
u just gotta
I only respect artists who work from the ground up just my opinion
@@c0rxpseb0i13 haha i was being sarcastic but i DO think its ok if you get a cosign from a big artist ETC, but if u put 0 effort in then i think its a little annoying
Goes to show just telling the truth is always better than trying to keep up with lies. At least when you tell the truth, people get the chance to make their own observation. When people lie its just straight up deceitful and makes the person doubt character, right on Smilez good luck to his journey!
props to this guy for being so transparent about it
I think it says a lot about his character that he was honest and did an interview with you and shared his story. I respect that. He’s gained another fan
I thought I wasn’t gonna like this dude but now I hear him speak I respect it 🫡
I respect his honesty. We need that from more artist. The rap scene is filled with a lot of cap.
This video legit made me a fan of this guy hahaha he comes off so genuine and down to earth
He was very honest and transparent . If that’s who he is , you can see why he was able to squeeze his way into the industry even if briefly . I think he could have had his pops put up more bread if he wasn’t as prideful as it seems . Either way cool dude didn’t expect that
Great guy great video
You can have snoopy doggy dog on your track for 250k..
Matty making moves!
Love the K.I.D.S. album poster on your wall. I want one lol
I swear If anybody else made a video ab him I wouldn’t watch it but I’ll always watch mattyballz when I eat
Another banger keep it up
Yeah buddy!
Yeah Buddy!
It’s cool to see “industry plants” as ultimately working if not well connected musicians
I went to Toni and Guy Academy in 2015. His parents are extremely rich. At least he didn’t drug and rob men for studio time. Like some other Industry plants😂 I like Smilez, he is smart, honest and talented.
i had no idea who he was until you made this video so you are helping
Matty please make your videos longer 🙏🙏
working on it!
I'm not a fan of his songs , but well i don't see a problem of his family paying for help his career,at least his not pretending that he is independent. (at least not that i know XD)
old school industry plants would be fun to watch
like are there lost wu tang tracks where a rich dude payed for a feature from back in the day lol
I respect the man's hustle. That and not being afraid to change music genres to pursue your own personal interest in music.
Would love to see a deep dive video of the artist aftertheparty
He seems chill, wish the best of luck to him and his career
like so many others said, respect to Smilez and how he handled things
Watch you and your subs go up everyday keep it up bro much love🎉
Bro is a genuine dude, love that in artists
bro answers questions like a politician 🤣
I Fucc wit bro's honesty💯
One fun fact. William Asher, don canon and trife drew, 69’s old crew or I guess OG crew. Ended up managing smiles around the time he did the music video for head shoulders, plus his second simp walk. They were managing his style and everything.
Rich kid stories are awesom.. They can buy ur favorite rapper
Bro he keeps it 100! He’s a solid dude, I feel like he would be an awesome ghost writer and producer
Respect to smilez fr 💯
Thanks!
do one on teezo touchdown
Respect!!
I forgot about Smilez. Not sure if I wanted to remember.
Plant, Plant coverage is wild 😂💯
I was gonna hate on this guy! And rightfully. But he came clean and straight forward. No dodging or lying. And he seems like a genuine artist. So respect my dude👊 Do your thing!
Wow. Like yes, I get that he has money from his parents, but he really is going through the same struggle as all the rest of us musicians. He’s trying to show his parents that his music career is viable, and not just “a dream that doesn’t make any money.“ Love his willingness to grind, and his honesty about his parents help, but I think there’s so many other rappers and musicians that claim to have “done it themselves” that totally got help from their parents. Thanks for just being transparent dude, another new fan!
Respect to Smilez for being honest
I’m thinking about it, if someone wanted to become a musical artist (especially in the hiphop space) with rich parents, how would one even go about maintaining image when you really can’t hide the fact your dad’s a millionaire?
i think at a certain point if the music is good enough it wouldnt matter
so hes a parent plant
After watching this interview,I like this guy more gonna check it his music out
I mean is it his fault his parents are rich 😂
Its so weird that he started rapping. I actually saw Drive A back in 2011 in Seattle
He seems pretty chill ngl
Bro moves smart and has good networking skills
And is honest as fuck that he isn’t self made but has tried to do that
He keeps it real and that’s cool as fuck
I respect this guy he seems genuine and he’s not lying.
Please do Lil Man J. I think his situation is similar to Smiles.
That guy looks like he should be serving me the wrong order at McDonalds.
The fact that he willingly offers up info on his parents make me really not care he comes from money. Dude seems open enough to admit something alot of "industry plants" don't, and i respect that. Seems like a relatively real dude...so who cares about where he comes from.
eh he’s honest and doing what we all want. making music and using his resources i can respect that
Man there was this drive a song let’s have a wreck which I used to love
Didn’t know the singer was a rapper now
The way i see it, industry plant or not, if the music is good then it'll catch on, otherwise they'll be a one hit wonder at best. No matter how much money you put behind a artist, you can't force people to like their music
💯
I always wondered what happened to Drive A
Actually more inclined to check out his music now
Jeez I thought this was gonna be the complete opposite of what it was, Smilez seems like a cool guy who loves music, knows what he has, and makes it work! Dude got my respect can't hate on that at all.
First time I saw him he was getting ratio'd in a random TikTok comment section after he said something dumb. He had hardly any followers, views, or likes, so I was confused as to why he had a blue tick. Tried Googling him and didn't really find much, I guess it was before the big collabs. Forgot about him until the first video you had mentioning him.
solid.
I respect that he was honest
All i need is my parents to buy me the carti feature
Im glad he was open about it because it’s a good look for him unlike a Jumex for example
I actually remember drive A that's wild hah
Gotta admit i have respect for the openness.
reupload?
He even bought this video
YOUR ON NEXT
MollyPeso and him had the best song out back in 2020 🔥🔥😮💨
He seems like a chill guy who was just born into fortune circumstances.
man youtube unsubed you🙄 i'm scrolling through your vids and these were all such relevant topics when they came out
I mean at least bro is honest and is self aware. he at least grinded quite a bit on his own too.
best detective fr
Head & Shoulders wasn't his first song lol,i saw another documentary about him,he was a rock singer before.
I love your vids including this one. But, title of this video is not fair. I didn't know who the Smile is until now but for I can tell this dude worked hard and got a help from his parents. Claiming that he bought his career is not fair at least by my standards.
At the start of this video i thought the guy was a spoiled rich kid, but after his honesty in the interview i actually respect the guy.
I like this Kid ❤ and his transparency
I don’t want to shock people but if you contact a record label you can get the managers contact number. You then get a quote for a feature. It’s not a mystery.
