Brian looks so much like his dad, it's unbelievable. He has his warm smile and everything. That's so neat!
Everything about this film was doomed to fail: Jim Henson and Richard Hunt passed away shortly before it was made, meaning there was only four main Muppeteers to perform all the characters, Steve Whitmire was completely knew to the iconic role of Kermit, so they made Gonzo and Rizzo the Muppet lead characters instead, Brian Henson had never directed anything before etc., yet the end product was so incredible. They made this film to prove that The Muppets can live on past Jim Henson and they certainly succeeded.
The result is arguably the greatest Christmas movie ever made.
He directed some Mother Goose tv shorts before this.
@@TheLowBrassDude Arubaly the greatest Muppet project ever.
I want commentary on the whole movie now!!! Not just 12 minutes. This is wonderful. Muppet Christmas Carol is my absolute favorite version of the story ever. It's so wonderful and touching to hear them talk about it.
Brian Henson does a commentary on the DVD and BluRay
It's not my favorite, but I only rate the 1930s MGM version with Gene Lockhart and "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" as good. I love all three versions.
It's been a long time since I saw Brian and now he looks so much more like his father... wow...
Juan Reyes It's crazy to think he's around the same age Jim was when he passed.
ZootWorld1 ...yeah...
In looks, yes, but definitely not in heart... Jim never would have done what Brian did to Steve Whitmire.
Steve never would have treated Jim the way he treated Brian and the others over the years. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle of the two stories.
@@OnTheNerdySide agreed
Great to see Brian Henson and Dave Goelz
Isn't it _fabulous_ how Dave Goelz isn't scrutinized for not talking about the firing of his longtime friend?
I guess the general public may never know the behind the scenes of what happened with Steve Whitmire, but the fact that they don’t mention him at all is really sad. He is the Kermit that many younger people know, and you can’t just erase him from Muppet history. He is a very talented performer. I’ve listened to this new Kermit...and it is just not the same. Steve will be missed, and the muppet audience has not forgotten him!
I know I grew up with Steve's Kermit too. And he was so good with his own characters like Wembley, Rizzo, Bean Bunny, and Lips.
The fact that Steve isn’t even mentioned hurts me on a personal level. He’s all over this movie and they just ignore it
Exactly. Brian seems to want to forget about Steve even though he was the one who casted him as Kermit
@@superjackster0165 I'm sure Dave Goelz hates that since they were very close. They were pretty much the duo of the 90s.
@@Asukenick And he's too afraid to stand up to the mouse!
That was really interesting hearing what they had to say about Muppets Christmas Carol! One of my faves and most nostalgic christmas specials, and hearing Brian Henson is always a treat.
Oh my god, I hope there wil be more of this stuff :)
Me too.
I think this needs to be reuploaded in original 60fps and they need to start posting content in their original frame-rates rather than just using 30fps and lower.
Me three
Brian Henson actually mentions a good amount of this on the DVD commentary, but still this was neat to watch.
I love this movie. It's by far my favorite version of A Christmas Carol.
I love this and hope they do more of this kind of thing... but... Steve Whitmire really should have been there - their talking around him is almost physically painful... the rat jokes, Kermit blowing out the candle, Kermit walking, Bean noticing Rizzo and Gonzo run by, that's all involving Steve and they studiously don't even namecheck him, I mean if he couldn't work within the Disney system, he couldn't work within the Disney system - but are they just going to ignore ALL the work he already did with the Muppets?!... and most egregious, "we worked together for years, the two characters were in lots of lots of scenes together, and we had good chemistry and we had a lot of fun"... yeah, that's not Rizzo and Gonzo, they didn't have lots of scenes together before this, it was Steve and Dave that had become a duo and had such good chemistry... and not even an oblique mention about how this was such an important movie for Kermit... man... so much for the Christmas mood, lol
Its not fair.
Not an exaggeration, I cry every time I watch the movie.
Not to be dramatic but I'd die for Dave Goelz
This was my introduction to actor Michael Caine.
My introduction to Michael as well.
1:42 Sprocket the dog from Fraggle Rock cameo
looneytoon76 you can also see the puppeteers head when he throws the snow ball
It`s great seeing Brian Henson and Dave Goelz talk about this movie, but it would`ve been so funny if it was Brian Henson and Gonzo talking about it, and we hear Gonzo talk about his experience playing Charles Dickens
THIS IS ONE BONUS FEATURE YOU WON’T FIND ON THE BLU-RAY 😉😉😉👍👍👍
Brian turned 55 this year, so he has now outlived his father.
Wow. So sad.
Jeez.
Wow. And just like that, Christmas finally showed up for me. As Sweetums would say, "I love you guys!!"
"NO, he's talking about working with Rizzo! If he even mentions Steve's name we edit it out. That would be horrible for the brand. We're happy. We all get along. Everything is fine."
Well Brian supported Disney's decision to fire Steve but I don't know how Dave feels about the situation
@@disneyfan94themuppetsforev95 They were very close so I'm sure he hated it.
@@Asukenick you're probably right but it is what it is
@Philip Kippel You don't know that for sure. I hope they do comic con together someday.
@@Asukenick But he was too cowardly to stand up to the mouse!
Watching Dave get choked up made me get all choked up goddamnit. I'm also feeling a little wowed by how much Brian looks like his dad.
Its a shame that steve whitmire wasn't in this video sent he was fired. :( he was a kind of a big part of the movie too.
Steve was the best.
Sadly the Henson family supported Disney's decision to fire Steve apparently he and Brian were having issues years before Disney bought the franchise and the family wanted him out
I hate that Steve isn't here. He and Dave were very close. I hope he Brian can be on good terms again.
Apparently the Henson family supported Disney's decision to fire Whitmire
@@disneyfan94themuppetsforev95 Since the Hensons own Fraggle Rock I wonder if they let Steve take part in the movie.
@@Asukenick at this point I don't see that happening the Hensons have basically disowned him
@@disneyfan94themuppetsforev95 I don't think Steve wanted to be a part of it anyway. I don't mind that's his not in it but only if its his own decision and not because they they wouldn't let him.
@@Asukenick from what I read the reason why the Henson family supported Steve`s firing was because of a long history of bad behavior behind the scenes after he became Kermit whether or not this is true I have no idea
Honestly... c.c The Muppet Christmas Carol is probably my favorite version of the story I've seen... I love the spin on the Spirit of Christmas Present, and Michael Caine is probably the best individual depiction of Scrooge. >.>
I hope Brian, David, and more puppeteers do this again with Muppet Treasure Island one day.
Awe I️ love it!!!! I’m sure Dave Goelz is not only touched by this awesome movie that is my favorite of all the films. But of all those that have gone since then from this earth or even from the company. Blessings to you muppets & Disney. I️ know crazy times & decisions but I still support you.
Dave, I cry too, and I'm just an audience member!
The Muppet Christmas Carol is a brilliant adaptation of a beautiful story. It stands as a fantastic musical, too. Thank you Brian and the Henson Company for making it a reality!
It is not Christmas until I have watched this movie. And just like David it makes me teary eyed too. I just hope someday we see the unedited cut again on dvd with more behind the scenes stories.
More of these please! Love that Disney is actually acknowledging people behind (or below) the Muppets!
Oh wow! So thankful for the randomness of the CZcams algorithm bringing me here. This was such a treasure! So wonderful to see old friends reminiscing about one of if not the best version of the Christmas Carol.
That door knocker made me terrified of Statler for years...
This is one of mine and my mom's favorites. It sucks that she's moved out of state and we can't share it this year, at least we have each other in spirit. Along with the memories of watching this film.
I had no idea that Dave Goelz named one of the horses Richmond and used him as a proxy to ask for additional parts for the film's horses.
Brian looks so much like his dad!!
And not one mention of Steve Whitmire.
Steve is all over the screen though, both as Kermit and Rizzo. Even if unannounced, it gives us yet another chance to enjoy the sheer quality of his performance.
CWSteam&Diesel i was thinking that to
@@andrewk8544 *and Bean Bunny
Unrelated to the charming and insightful commentary; there's something very Pan's Labyrinth about a huge plate full of treats that remains untouched throughout this entire video.
The doorknocker turning into Statler really terrified me at that age.
Me 2.
Love this! Do more of these. And, Muppets Christmas Carol is top on our list of movies to watch during the holidays.
The Ghost of Christmas Past still creeps me out like it did when I was a kid!
I love this!!!!
I was on several puppet teams performing for churches, fairs, and other public programs from when I was in 6th grade all through college. I miss it.
The Muppet Christmas Carol is my fav movie OF ALL TIME. not just fav Christmas movie, but of all movies ever. Thank you for that film and for this great video!
This is wonderful. Thank you for making my favorite Christmas tradition.
This my favourite version of charses dickens story !
The Muppet Christmas Carol, is our Family's Favorite!!! Thank you!!!!
Such a classic film, it's not cheesy it's educational but fun and great soundtrack. I wish more films were like this :)
I thought that Muppet Classic Theater was the first time Gonzo and Rizzo worked together as a duo.
That video was done after the Christmas carol movie
Yessss, I vote more videos like this.
This was wonderful! Here's hoping we see more like this!
And they never did it again
thanks for this, Disney, the movie is among our family Christmas traditions
growing up with The Muppets and growing up at a time when no one really knew how they would continue after Jim's passing, watching Muppet Christmas Carol showed me and everyone that not only would they continue but they would thrive; we still have The Muppets to this day! i love this movie and i love Jim's and now Brian's legacy.
I could watch videos like this forever 😍😍😍😍
Brilliant!
I would LOVE to hear more of these, like wonderful movie commentary where you LEARN things
That's hilarious!
Happy 25th Anniversary to the classic Christmas film The Muppet Christmas Carol
I love this idea. More of these!!!
This was awesome! Please do more!
i would have usted that Sesame Street Vampire in Kermit's first scene, Ernie and Bert in the dance where Scrooge meets his love, and Big Bird, Elmo, etc. in the 'It Feels Like Christmas' number
Juan Risa his name is count von count
Omg I love the muppets! They are my childhood
I love the muppets
More please!
I "like" how Steve Whitmire has become another "HE WHAT MUST NOT BE NAMED" along with Kevin Clash and seasons 4 and 5 of The Muppet Show. I'm getting tired of being a fan.
They were both fantastic people.
It was a true Muppet Christmas movie.
I've never watched this movie, haven't watched most Muppets' movies for that matter, but watching this video and the commentary is just fantastic, hope there's more to come.
Grabehn you don’t know what you’re missing! You NEED to see this!
Spookily enough (pun intended 😊) we just watched the DVD last night. It is an awesome film 👏🏻👍🏻♥️😊
This was too short, they should release the whole thing!
Great behind the scenes info. They need to do more of these.
Not sure what kind of person Dickens was, whether or not he had a sense of humor, but if he did, he'd like this!
That was cool!
25 years of The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992-2017).
Please do more stuff like this!
I thought we would get some commentary on "The love is gone" and it's place in the film. I'm so sad Disney has cut it from their current releases!!! Bring it back!
Dillon Ohlemiller the song “when love is gone” only plays in the credits of the dvd release however the vhs release has the missing scene of belle leaving Scrooge and she sings “when love is gone”. It has a very sweet duet with an older Scrooge and belle in it.
Why did Disney cut it out anyway?
Anabel Canas As Blue mentioned, to keep the film's run time down. The whole scene may only be 4-5 minutes, but over the course of multiple showings a day, that adds up to almost another showing's worth of time that the theatre can sell. It's always a trade off. On home video it's less of a concern, so the old video tape release included it. The current DVDs released use the shorter theatrical cut, which is an odd choice.
I just watched that today!!!
Please do something like this for Treasure Island
I wish they made movies like muppet treasure island,Christmas, even from space. Maybey im stuck in 90s.
My mother laughs at the door knocker every time.
Is this a full commentary somewhere? I'd love to watch this alongside the movie.
Good to see Brian Henson and Dave Goelz watching The Muppets Christmas Carol.
Fun Facts: It is the first Muppet Movie made By Disney, with some help from Jim Henson Productions, Sprocket from Fraggle Rock made a bunch of cameo appearances, and This Movie was made in dedication to Jim Henson as well as Richard Hunt.
They're so adorable I love the Muppet Christmas Carol my family gave it to me & my brothers
is there a full version? where they rewatch the whole film?
You should make a Muppets version of the Grinch
A Year Later, Brian Henson Made "The Happy Time Murders".
You mean 25 years later?
@@Splifftone That Means a Year after this Video was on CZcams.
I watch this movie in music class
wow, really? great class to waste time
Great! But I am still sore that 'the love is gone scene' was cut from my version of the dvd... We hit pause and play from the soundtrack cd :)
CZcamsr Blue I can appreciate that but the final song (love we found) is so much more poignant with the memory of the same melody used in a sad context previously...
Hopefully he’ll return to the Muppets as Sal.
Hi Gonzo Hi Jack Pumpkinhead.
I know you're never going to read this but I really just want to say ... thank you x
50-something and still turned to mush by felt and kapok.
Do a new movie, please
I wish he could come back to play Sal, Seymour, and Dr. Phil Van Neuter, but alas, he's busy being in charge of the Jim Henson company.
Eri Pena Well, maybe not Seymour. Pepe is better solo. M'kay?
Dave Zanko yeah, you're probably right. Still, a cameo would be nice.
Sal was just the best
Muppet Christmas Carol is my favorite holiday movie! Watch it every year! :D
If you ask me I like this film because it was before the world became quite as evil as it is now
My god, muppets is the best, and The Henson father and son’s creation is a blessing on every child for 50 years.
But don’t mix Sesame Street and the adult entertainment 😉 Much love from Singapore.
If I'm being honest, I don't want to watch Brian Henson talk about the Muppets after what happened this year with Whitmire.
Blade Mountain What happened to whitmire
He was let go, for reasons that are not fully clear, due to differing views on the matter.
hi
Ilk defa gerçek insan
180 vews omg
It would've been funny if they made a reference to the cut scene. Like after Belle walks away something like
"We gonna talk about that?"
"Nope"
"Alright moving on"
I know the footage is lost, but a funny nod to the fans
