  • Skim coating for a perfect ceiling is what I'm doing in today's video. I'll tell you why I skim coat a textured ceiling after repairs and I'll show you how to skim coat a ceiling! This is one of the craziest drywall ceiling that I ever had to repair! I've never seen drywall tape and joint compound blister like this before. Have you ever seen a drywall ceiling do this? Where ever the drywall finishing was at the joints. The drywall tape and joint compound are bubbling really bad. What's weird is the rest of the ceiling is fine. Just the tape joints are failing... Let me know in the comments what you think is going on? . Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I truly appreciate each and every one of you. -Paul

      I got a quick question... Have you done a vid on jow to fix drywall hung wrong. My homes ceiling drywall was put up with liquid nails and four nails at each corner. I discovered this when a portion fell because the nails gave. Can i just screw it in or do i need to replace. The bown in insulation is bowing the panels away from the beams

    It’s definitely a moisture issue. Especially here in Florida. One thing I noticed and I would have done from the beginning. If I was going to use drywall for a patio are. First, For the record, I’ve never used drywall for a patio area. I’ve always pulled it down and use cedar or aluminum soffit. Now back to my “maybe” mistake that the original contractor did. I would have used moisture resistant drywall. Not regular drywall. And yes I would have use fiberglass tape. Because once again it’s a moisture issue. And paper and moisture don’t mix well together.

  • @jeffostroff
    @jeffostroff Před 2 lety +4

    Paul, I agree, the humidity levels are so high down here in S. Florida this installation may have been doomed from the start, and humidity can almost make the drywall mud reflow. Heck when people try o roll paint over popcorn ceilings, the popcorn comes tight off from lack of primer. Do you think maybe they failed to prime the drywall after tape and mudding? I think if they prime with a good quality primer and put good quality topcoat paint, then humidity should not be able to get through to the drywall and make the tape delam. In one of my videos from last year, we found extensive bubbling of paint interior on my friend's walls and went the paint peels so easily off the drywall, it's a sure sign they never primed the walls first. I had to scrape, sand, skim, prime, repaint to fix it.

  • @AnthonyWrenn
    @AnthonyWrenn Před 2 lety

    How do I get the skim coat to be as rock hard as skim coats from the 50’s. That drywall (5/8”) and skim coat (maybe the combo) seems impervious to water. This is being done as a repair inside the house if that make a difference. That old drywall behind the skin coat looks like brick motar( grout).

  • @rogelioybarra4068
    @rogelioybarra4068 Před 2 lety +1

    You’re right bro that is a good option for the customers but also what people need to understand is that you can make more money doing skim coating instead of matching a texture

    • @PaulPeck
      @PaulPeck  Před 2 lety +1

      Rogello, They know exactly what each options costs are. Because I always give my potential customers a written estimate.👍🏻 And honestly it would be a lot easier just to go ahead and match the texture because skim coating and re-texturing takes a lot more work. So of course it would cost more money because it’s a lot more time to complete. Thanks so much for watching and commenting bro.💥👊🏻😎 -Paul

    Just curious. Why is there so much textured drywall? Here in Chicago we don't have much of that

    • @PaulPeck
      @PaulPeck  Před 2 lety

      Because in Chicago y'all have to repair so many bullet holes , it just saves time if you don't also have to texture , plus when chicago pizza sauce squirts on the wall it cleans off a slick wall easier ..... that's why

  • @fishimust4766
    @fishimust4766 Před 2 lety +1

    The rust on the screw heads is the giveaway that it's a moisture problem, but I've never seen mud release from sheetrock like that without a trace. I've had tape pull loose using hot mud, but I believe it was operator error on my part by using it when it was setting up in my pan before finishing.

    Seems to me it’s painted with semi gloss with no primer

    • @shure46
      @shure46 Před 2 měsíci

      definitely a paint issue , however the mud pulled off easily too so that's moisture from above seeping through , but yes , I was even thinking maybe it was OIL paint !!!! sure acted like it , but I think just cheap ole builder semigloss , shoulda primed first or used a high quality flat or satin .... probably still prime it first because that's exactly how paint acts on unprimed wood , just "won't soak in and bond" it pulls away when it dries , the raw wood or raw drywall sucks all the water out of the paint too fast , doesn't bond , then a semigloss is going to harden and tighten up compounding the problem
