This is a serious design flaw which is actually dangerous, it needs to be brought up. It's happened with several smoke alarms for me. All it does is encourages people to remove batteries in the middle of the night

You have to look inside to match up the post. I am going through this right now. Just learned there is a breaker just for alarms. I have been without electricity since 5:30 this morning.

Before replacing the batteries hold the test button for 15-20 seconds to drain all the old current.
