    It looks like it will be a runaway sucess for Ineos. I'm liking what I'm seeing. Particularly the switchgear but not the lack of dash binnacle. But what I'm most excited about in the succes of the Grenadier, is the possibility that this will finally give Toyota a kick in the rear-end to develop the 70 Series to bring it to the 21st Century. The big question mark with the Grenadier is, how will you go with locating spare parts if you break down in remote areas like Cape York or the Simpson Desert?

    • @GraveBlashyrkh
      @GraveBlashyrkh Před rokem +2

      Toyota won't change the 70 series. There is just enough demand to justify production. Modernizing it enough to sell worldwide makes no sense as well since they have the prados.
      The Grenadier has a hard time competing against his older brothers, it's much more expensive and has imho a lot of flaws for hardcore 4x4 fans and overlanders. For remote farmwork it's a good but way too expensive car. Better get a pickup truck

    • @ianweal3081
      @ianweal3081 Před rokem +1

      @@GraveBlashyrkh well if Toyota just reverted the 76 wagon back it's original origins, the 70 series Prado it would sell heaps better.
      The 70 series Prado didn't come into Australia, our first Prado was the 90 series. The original 70 series Prado was the original vehicle they built the current 76 wagon from, it wasn't a new vehicle at all, it already existed from early 1990s
      Pity was, the 70 series Prado had coils all round, an 80 series style dash & interior, vastly better than any 76 was/is, plus a sun roof etc.
      Toyota wouldn't have to reinvent the 76 to be better, just revert to the past, then stick an auto option in as well.
      Just think, coils all round from factory, with any luck the wheel track would finally be rectified. All that would vastly improve it without major investment. But we all know it won't happen, why would Toyota want to satisfy its consumer base when the consumer is so gullible as to buy crap and pay hideously for the pleasure. I did buy one, then realised it was crap and sold it off, reverting back to my Isuzu built Holden Jackaroo in favour of the extremely poor handling, useless off road crap Toyota sold me, yes I was gullible.

    • @GraveBlashyrkh
      @GraveBlashyrkh Před rokem

      @@ianweal3081 yes that's true. In Japan they had the HZJ77 for the heavy duty demands(with leaf spring front and rear) and lj/kzj 77/78/79 prados for light duty demands. While the front and chassis are different, the rest was almost identical. Manual or auto gear boxes, splitable rear bench, sun roof(optional), and a stow away box in the cargo area. I still wonder why they did the widened 60 series style front when they had the shorter but widened (compared to narrow noze heavy duty models) prado front. Which would have allowed normal front and rear wheeltrack. Only toyota knows

  • @andrewjones-productions
    @andrewjones-productions Před rokem +4

    There are many well thought out features in the Grenadier. Especially, finally a manufacturer that provides a weatherproof, prewired connection to electrical equipment on the roof of the vehicle. The rear split doors are also good in my opinion. Practical both in an urban carpark as well as in inclement weather out in the wild when you only want to open the rear to reach something inside without rain, snow, dust getting inside and a very strong wind from snatching a large sail like door out of your hand. The undercarriage goes without saying.
    However, the price point is up there with the luxury SUVs and I really have to question whether it will really compete with the Land Cruisers (the 70s) that are so popular with overlanders in Africa and Australia. Not to mention with international organisations like the UN, Red Cross/Crescent and the like. For most countries, that competition won't exist anyway as the LCs are not available other than in their latest 300 or Prado forms. Above all else, Ineos really need to get these to market or they will be labelled with the exact same reputation as UK car manufacturers that have long since disappeared. I acknowledge that the pandemic, Russia's invasion of Ukraine and China's zero Covid policy have slowed things down for them as well as everybody else. Even so....

    • @GraveBlashyrkh
      @GraveBlashyrkh Před rokem

      Let me tell you from Personal experience with the car: it is not able to compete with older 4x4's yet. It's a suv with live axles. But with a second gen Ineos can make it s good and modern offroad truck.
      The prewired roof connectors for electric accessories is one of the good points. The rear doors are shite for reaching stuff in the trunk, you have to open both since the small one is tapeted due to the spare tite size

But for proper off-road drivers who will spend more time in the rough, it looks great as long as the price is competitive.

    Simpson Desert crossing!? Where would you put the extra fuel? 90 litres ain't gunna cut it. No room for long range tanks underneath. The wheel ruts in the golf course are already scraping the under-carriage, I guess that is why that huge bash plate come snag plate is so prominent. Did you experience the un-controlled wheel shimmy on broken rocky surfaces? Rubber boots on CVjoints on drive-shafts, how long before they puncture or crack and allow dust and water in? Sort of well thought out - but not quite there yet. First thing it needs is to be 100mm further off the ground.

    I do hope that Cararro have stuck with their tractor axle diff lock design where clutch packs engage the mechanical lock almost instantly. Nothing worse than waiting for an electric motor to engage the lock, which feels as if it takes forever and a Land Cruiser 100 and is prone to being corroded by road salt and water. How do I know? Good to wait. I had one on order. Got to sit in one and then cancelled the order. For me, the driving position and ergonomics are atrocious for a newly designed vehicle. I’m about 6ft tall and my left leg was jammed up between the steering wheel and centre console, the pedals are skewed to the right and long reach to accelerator pedal. Ignition key is on left of steering column, not the right where it should be so keys will hit you left knee that’s propped up high. It would be awkward and tiresome on long trips. If you’re short in height and in-seam then maybe you’d be better off.

    It is an amazing looking car. But if you wanna make "no BS, all around car", why there is not a bloody dashboard in the front of driver? Instead you have almost Tesla like screen in the middle. I need to have the basic info like the speed in the front on me. Also only automatic transmission, really?

    Not a fan of Ladder-Chassis/Body on Frame or Live axles. Monocoque with Independent all round is the go because like you say, most of the driving to Get to the off-road stuff, is on-road.
    You mention nice noise of the engines! Noise isn’t a thing you want. You want quite and refined yet powerful and smooth.
    Dang my Discovery Sport has a payload of 759kg.
    Kerb Weight is 1841kg and GVM is 2600kg.

      If you do a lot of outback touring like me. It has to be solid axles, ladder frame. Monocoque won’t last so long out here.

      I am at a loss as to why you are even commenting here?? The Ineos Grenadier was built for a certain market sector that appreciates those things you don't like. There are plenty of SUVs out there already built to your preference. Why don't you go and comment on those and stop wasting your time here as Ineos isn't about about to change the design to meet any of your preferences.

    The problem is it’s overpriced for what it is. You could buy a RAM TRX for that money which has more power, capability, comfort, same mpg, easier access for service, and better load and space …. If it was $55k US instead of $72k US it would be a good buy

    When you said that you don't want this car to be too quiet and refined, that's when I knew you've been drinking too much of the Ineos kool-aid. The rumble of the engine will become tiring after hours and hours of driving getting to and from your destinations. I'd rather have me a quiet and refine ultra capable 4WD thanks.

      As far as cabin noise goes I found it better than my FJ cruiser, MUCH better than a 70 series or Patrol and similar to a 10 year old mid spec Prado. Has nothing on a 300 series, new Defender or AWD SUV but fits the target market I think. I mean, I would rather have proper stock skid plates and steel bumpers than 200k of dynamat in the body...

    It is certainly good for Europe but not in North Africa or Australia. Far too expensive winch and too little space for a wider tank. Too little ground clearance.
    I would probably prefer a landcruiser.

      Too little ground clearance? 264mm is better than just about everything else bar those with air suspension. Landcruisers have less ground clearance so you are not making sense.

    My TD5 defender had much better steering, ride and handling than a 79 series cruiser. I recently test drove a new v6 wildtrak ranger. The TD5 Defender had better steering than the ranger too. These electric steering cars have no feel at all. The most worrying thing about this new car is the BMW engines. They haven't built good engines this century.
