  • Parked at the Dalwhinnie Service Station and went through the underpass to get onto the track for Culra Bothy. Good track all the way ,gets a bit narrower and bumpy closer to the Bothy.Just over 9 miles.
    11.5 miles walking the 4 Munros and took the track back out to Loch Pattack and over the Shoogly Bridge.Not an easy job getting your bike over this ,lol. Another great day out. Need to come back in for the other 2.

    Well done Andy, another 4 in the bag. I'm planning to grab these 6 in 2 separate outings too, as there's a nice ridge up Ben Alder I want to ascend, which wouldn't really fit in with an all 6 day, and no doubt my knees will be begging me to stop after the descent between the 2 groups. Cheers. 👍

      Got to go back in for those 2 myself Andy, ascending Alder the way u are thinking.There is no way i would of managed the 6.The bottom half of my descent was fecking horrible to get back onto the path out.Sapped a lot of energy out me.🥵👍

      I mind that video with you and Robin.That was the one you got the stablisers off ur bike eh,lol?Yeah the walk back to the bothy was long.Kept turning wee corners hoping to spy the bothy but it was a bit like false summits instead it was false corners.🤣🤣👍
      Thanks for watching Kev.

    I was there on the 11th revisiting Ben alder, shame about the MBA no longer taking responsibility for culra bothy. I hope something gets done about it before it falls to ruin.

    • @AndyOB
      @AndyOB  Před rokem

      It was bloody awful the bottom section.I have never liked contouring a mountain Richard and this was a nightmare with my dodgy foot,lol.Was so glad to reach the path and i knew i had still another 5-6km to the bothy,🤣🤣👍

  • @PAADVENTURES1
    @PAADVENTURES1 Před rokem +1

    Brilliant Andy, is this the walkhighlands route you followed for these 4? Looks like an amazing day out. Was it a tough final descent? Think the finger gesture hinted at that. Great wee watch! How long did you take? Paul

    • @AndyOB
      @AndyOB  Před rokem

      Hi Paul,yes this was the Walkhighlands route I followed.The first ascent from the bothy is a bit of pathless heather bashing and then when you meet the ridge up to Carn Dearg the walking conditions are brilliant to you drop down after the 4th.Top half of the descent is ok but the bottom half was fecking horrible.Pathless,marshy ground contouring round the mountain was no fun.I've never enjoyed contouring as the angle your feet are at and it made it even worse with my dodgy foot.Great path back to the bothy after this.My total time from car to car was 11hr 40 mins but my speed has slowed down a bit now.😃👍

    Lovely video Andy, conditions were cracking with some superb views, think I’ll be doing them in 2 stages as I fancy the scramble up the long leachas to Ben alder. No drone.? Conditions looked superb for it. How was it crossing the railway line with the bike.?
    Another 4 ticked off Andy, we’ll done again.👍

      Thanks frank.Yeah amazing weather to be out.Going back in to do the other 2 the same way as you.No way i would of managed the 6.🥵🥵
      No drone with me as my pace had slowed and I knew the day would have been long enuff without the faffing of the drone added on.I parked at Dalwhinnie Service station and went under the underpass rather than the level crossing as i believe that gate is locked now.😃👍

      @@AndyOB yeh think I’ll be camping there Andy and do the 6 over 2 days. Know what you mean about the drone and all the faffing, it’s a pain at times🤣🤣
      Yeh was wondering about railway line as I had heard the crossing was closed. Looking forward to doing these Andy.👍

      @@hikingwithfrank315 aye u'll love it in there Frank.Plenty places to pitch tents and no shortage of water sources.Just be careful with the final cycle to the bothy after you come off the land rover track.The ruts are very narrow and had me skidding in them and nearly came off a couple of times.😃🚴‍♂️

    I only have a road bike. Do you think the track is good enough for some more rugged (puncture resistant) 28mm tyres to handle?

    • @AndyOB
      @AndyOB  Před měsícem

      Most of the track up to Loch Pattack is a very good conditioned gravel road.It's only when you cut over to the bothy it gets a bit rough and muddy for a couple of km's.
