    I actually worked at one of the (if not the) first Goodwill Computer Store at the corporate office in Santa Ana about 14 years ago. People would donate whole PCs that just had a bad video card or power supply. Actually built myself a pretty sweet quad core system with parts that came in.

    • @DakotaTheGoof
      @DakotaTheGoof Před rokem +2

      For the newer people, a quad core back then is like how highly ranked a 8 core is now. That is really cool you could make a build like that, simply stuff like that and just watching for deals is amazing to do. Although, a goodwill near me also has a computer section... and who ever does their prices here is completely out of touch. Everything is WAY too high. I saw a Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM Win7 computer there the other day for 499.99

    0:50 Hold the phone, Austin. That takes me back years ago. That name was notorious, back in the good ol' days in the Philippines. Still is.
    Always had a reputation for selling the cheapest stuff, although of course at the cheapest quality. Some stuff of theirs I've hold on to actually still work, though. Surprisingly. A battery charger and an 8GB USB drive.
    Cheapness runs through their very core, their business started by selling just tons and tons of CD-R discs as a bundle for real cheap. Whether they worked as a gamble, of course, but it was cheap enough and reliable... enough that people just ate it up.
    Don't actually know the circumstances of their downfall, but it seems their business model at the end wasn't sustainable.
    2:39 We actually were just given a massage slipper like that by someone in the family. Without watching, I can already anticipate what you're gonna say once you try it on. Bless you.

    CD-R King is a chain or stores in the Philippines selling rebadged cheap electronics and accessories from China. The name comes from how they started selling blank optical media, specifically, CD-Rs, back in the early 2000s.
    Their business has been contracting due to online shopping becoming a thing down here (the dumb part is they sell electronics...and somehow didn't adapt to this?! no it wasn't the lockdowns, they've been declining for months before those), so it's not unlikely that some of their canceled orders ended up getting sold elsewhere online.

    To me Goodwill is life, I've gotten some of the best deals ever there though it really does depend on where you go and how lucky you get.
    I found some crazy deals but sometimes it really requires digging or being at the right place at the right time. But also yeah being in a better neighborhood you're less likely to get broken garbage that's priced way too damn high.

      I live in a nice town where they opened a GoodWill around 5 years ago… the parking lot is completely full every day with a line outside the door most mornings.

    ps3 phats are expensive because of the backwards compatibility with ps2 and ps1 like you guys mentioned. There is only 1 or 2 models of phat ps3 that are hardware compatible with most ps2 and ps1 games, some models use software emulation and have less compatibility, and the slims only have one or the other i think.

    CD-R King was a computer retail chain based here in the Philippines, discounted computer, mobile accessories. Im wondering how the heck did that keyboard end up in the USA... probably when a local moved to the US is the likelihood reason. but still its super rare for a cheap computer retail store product to end up there haha.

    God bless your heart. The key board too small, noisy, and wired. The size reminds me of a Mac keyboard that I discarded. I couldn't imagine someone with large hands being able to type on it. Being without a number pad is egregious. I use the number pad all the time.

    Hearing that they're going for those prices is hilarious, and proof people are easy to scam.

    I found a dell g15! from goodwill but it didn't turn on and so they sold it to me for $10. Luckily dell still had a warranty on this laptop! They couldn't get any parts for it and so they upgraded it for free and sent me the 2022 dell g15 i7 12th gen intel!
