Less than two years from the date of this video, shrek 5 and toy story 5 will be released to theaters, bringing us back to the era of animated franchises beloved in the public.
Shrek was all about Shrek being open-minded. Shrek 2 was all about Shrek accepting himself. Shrek 3 was all about Shrek accepting change. Shrek 4 was all about Shrek realizing the danger of nostalgia. There's nothing left to explore about Shrek's character.
Maybe shrek 5 might be him realizing he’s getting older and can’t do as much or maybe his kids are going to grow up and are starting to rely on him less
My two biggest fears for Shrek 5 are 1. Relying too much on Nostalgia and memberries 2. Pulling a Luke Skywalker of Indiana Jones by deconstructing Shrek just to promo up a brand new character
Honestly, I'm really surprised it took them this long to roll out the corpse of this dead franchise to see if they can't squeeze a few more pennies out of it.
I just don't see the purpose of a fifth film. "Forever After" had Shrek realize that whatever he's lost in his journey is nothing compared to what he's gained. Which is a perfect ending for his arc. Ignoring 3, the series is fantastic as is. I just can't see where you take the story now. I think Shrek had his run. Though I wouldn't be opposed to a "remaster" of the first two films, (improving the animation to modern standards).

Puss in Boots worked because Puss is single and can go on adventures. Shrek 5 will have problems becuase Shrek and Donkey are married with kids. They are tied down which limits any potential character arcs
Big question here: will this be set after Puss in Boots: The Last Wish or after Shrek Forever After? And whether or not will Antonio Banderas (Puss) and Salma Hayek (Kitty Softpaws) reprised their respective roles.

Shrek 5 needs to be about his kids. May be his daughter finds love and Shrek got to deal with not only getting older but losing his girl. Shame this story would make his sons be an afterthought sadly.
Kung Fu Panda 4 didn’t work because the director didn’t care about its story being good at all and wanted it to be more childish and weaker then 1/2/3, if this movie doesn’t have that same director, a big problem with that movie is already gone.

Personally I was always okay with Shrek continuing as a franchise because Shrek never got to that point that Toy Story did, I felt there were still plenty of stories that could be told, and unlike everyone else, I never thought Shrek the Third was a bad movie, I swear it's incredibly overhated for no real reason, therefore unlike Toy Story which had Toy Story 4 which was absolute garbage, to me; Shrek never had a truly bad movie that warranted putting the franchise to bed, and after seeing what they were able to do with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, I want to see that same magic brought to Shrek.
I aleays felt like Charming deserved a better movie than Shrek 3. It wasn't bad, but ut just felt like a watered-down version of 2, particularly since the atmosphere was more depressed than awestruck.
If they want Shrek 5 to be great, they should use Puss In Boots 2-styled animation, not shove the side characters aside and make Steamboat Willie the main villain, the latter will be perfect!

I have mixed feelings about this. At the same time I’m curious to see what the 5th movie is going to be about but at the same time I feel that it’s just unnecessary because honestly the 4th movie ended perfectly to conclude shrek’s character arc, to make him learn one final lesson to truly have a happily ever after, and it was to be grateful for having a great life with a wife who loves him and accepted him for who he is, three cute precious babies who he can give them love and care unlike shrek’s father, friends like donkey, gingy, Pinocchio, and other fairy tale characters who are good friends with him, and most of all being accepted by the humans who used to fear him and hate him. So I really don’t know what else can be done in the shrek 5 movie. I may be curious and interested about shrek 5, but I do have a feeling that it may not be as good as we think it will be. But hey, I could be wrong and it may turn out to be a pretty good sequel.

Shrek 5 is coming in 2026 and the Mario movie 2 as well. I'm gonna see Mario in cinema not Shrek or Toy story 5. Theses movies don't need to exist! You know I really enjoyed movies from the 2000's that went off to have sequels that ended around the 2010's. I think they should've ended there and move on because I felt like there isn't really much to tell anymore. Toy Story 1-3, Kung Fu Panda 1-3 and Shrek 1-4 are good examples of movie sequels that have good endings and shouldn't be revived or add a new sequel. For me, I feel like the added sequels feel rushed and undercooked. Like I didn't feel emotional at the end of Toy Story 4, Kung Fu Panda 4 felt unncessary, and I'm afraid that Shrek 5 could be the same. I remembered when watching the very first trailer for KFP4 and I instantly felt like there was already something wrong with it, and when I watched the movie, my suspicions were correct and that wasn't a good thing for me. I always keep saying this, and I know there are many others who say the same thing. They need to stop pumping out unnecessary sequels after sequels. If the triolgy or quadriolgy has a good ending with all the character's arcs completed, there is no reason why you should make another. Yes I know companies want to bank off the success and popularity of the films they made so they make more sequels, but how long will that popularity and success last? Soon it will feel burned out and boring to the point it becomes terrible. Example, the Ice Age movies. I remembered watching the first three movies and I thought they were fine. But after they kept pumping out more of them, it began to become awful and unnecessary. I honestly wished they stuck to the story of the first movie, like maybe Manny and the others stumble across the human baby years later, now being a young man and reconnecting their bond or something. It saddens me to hear many studios saying they prefer to rely on sequels and nostalga rather than making original movies. And the problem is when they do make original movies, they sometimes fall flat or not capturing the appeal of others, like Strange World or Wish. It feels like companies don't give the directors or creatives time to flesh everything out and just quickly mash and glue things together and hope it works. Another example, Frozen 2. I remembered watching a video on how the development in the movie's production was kind of rushed and they were close to the deadline. I know the sad truth is that companies don't care about the love of art and creativity anymore. Back then, creative movies strived and appealed to everyone, it was loved by all. And they still continued to be loved to this day. Now, it's just about making money and soulless cash grabs with no heart. Some movies attempt to have heart or soul, but because of the corprate companies meddling the projects, they end up not being as good or amazing. Something I've been seeing lately *Cough* Wish. *Cough* I don't know when they will finally realized their wrong doings and actually give creatives the money and proper time to make good movies again. It could be years from now. Not only that but artists are struggling to find jobs, especially in these modern times where Ai is advancing very fast and it threatens the jobs of artists, not just in drawing or painting or modeling, but in music and voice acting as well. And there's a message about relying on things to cheat your way into success or accomplishments. Relying on sequels and Ai is just going to end up ruining both the art, story, characters, and yourself. Your skills will not improve if you soley rely on a computer to do everything. You'll never learn, and others will look down on you for not even trying to make art yourself. Wow, I went on a huge rant there. But it needed to be said because since the pandemic hit, I have noticed how some movies starting to go on a downfall and they just don't appealed to me anymore. Movies that I was looking forward to, only to find out they weren't up to my expectations. I know I shouldn't have high expectations, but given how I suffer from some sort of depression, I find it hard to find joy or excitement every day. I want to be excited for something new, I want to enjoy these movies. But they always end up making me feel nothing. I soon gave up on Disney after their poor attempts in making live action adaptation remakes of their original animated movies, because they're, "outdated". I had held these frustations for so long that it became a ticking time bomb, I hope some people understand what I'm saying. If not, ehh whatever. If you enjoy those movies, more power to you. I am also now getting concern for Pixar and Dreamworks after hearing they are cutting employees short and no longer making movies in-house anymore. It sucks. It just sucks.
Who wants to watch _Shrek 5_ just because _The Last Wish_ happened? Isn't Puss a side character in the Shrek films? What do you expect for him to be doing? What the hell are they even doing in Far Far Away? Who lives there?

The fact that DreamWorks is doing Shrek five while releasing Megamind 2 and kung fu panda 4 and soon the wild robot, sounds like they’re really shoveling a lot this year. Either with effort or very little.
To be fair, Megamind 2 was done by Dreamworks television animation and not the core studio. I also don't think KFP 4 is as bad as everyone else says it is, I thought it was just okay.
I was skeptical about the need for a Shrek 5, but after seeing Puss In Boots the Last Wish, I lost all that skepticisms. However, because DreamWorks is done making in house movies, I’m not sure if the animation for Shrek 5 would be good.
Im my opinion Shrek Forever After was such a great ending where it brought shrek back to his roots almost a 1.5 remake that had so much going for it its so underrated if anything it writes Shrek the 3rd out completely and really does feel like a storybook ending literally
Shrek Forever After didn't write Shrek the Third out the picture. Some elements from the third movie still made its way to Forever After. For example, The Poison Apple, the bar where all the villains used to hang out in Shrek 2 and The Third is now a safe place that you can rent for birthday parties and other events. In my head canon, King “Artie” Arthur is the one who gave the order to get that place cleaned up. Also, I believe that he gave the villains new jobs at the kingdom since they joined his side by the end of Shrek the Third. Another example, Mabel, a character that was introduced in The Third, made a brief appearance in Forever After, she was in the ogre triplets' birthday party. She's one of the Ugly Stepsisters, and she's the one who said "Looks like you forgot the candles" to Shrek's face at the party. Another thing. A picture of Fiona and the Princesses from Shrek the Third can be seen hanging on their wall when the ogre triplets wake Shrek and Fiona up. And, of course King Harold not being present in this film because he died in The Third.
So why is Medicore movies more damaging to Disney or Franchises like Kung fu panda, Shrek, Toy story excetera. Like Why does Medicore is actually bad and what would happen if like a Fifth Kung fu Panda film were to do something completely stupid like introduce Pos mother is still alive thus being no Medicore but worse. Like how does Legacy and expectation affect tolerance for no good but no bad but must be better. The wieght of a story or franchise. We should talk about the Weight of Kung fu Panda and Despicable Me and ask ourselve why medicore is still bad to say if Boss baby made a better film or Home having a better sequel.

Personally I was always okay with Shrek continuing as a franchise because Shrek never got to that point that Toy Story did, I felt there were still plenty of stories that could be told, and unlike everyone else, I never thought Shrek the Third was a bad movie, I swear it's incredibly overhated for no real reason, therefore unlike Toy Story which had Toy Story 4 which was absolute garbage, to me; Shrek never had a truly bad movie that warranted putting the franchise to bed, and after seeing what they were able to do with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, I want to see that same magic brought to Shrek.
I aleays felt like Charming deserved a better movie than Shrek 3. It wasn't bad, but ut just felt like a watered-down version of 2, particularly since the atmosphere was more depressed than awestruck.

I have mixed feelings about this. At the same time I’m curious to see what the 5th movie is going to be about but at the same time I feel that it’s just unnecessary because honestly the 4th movie ended perfectly to conclude shrek’s character arc, to make him learn one final lesson to truly have a happily ever after, and it was to be grateful for having a great life with a wife who loves him and accepted him for who he is, three cute precious babies who he can give them love and care unlike shrek’s father, friends like donkey, gingy, Pinocchio, and other fairy tale characters who are good friends with him, and most of all being accepted by the humans who used to fear him and hate him.
So I really don’t know what else can be done in the shrek 5 movie. I may be curious and interested about shrek 5, but I do have a feeling that it may not be as good as we think it will be. But hey, I could be wrong and it may turn out to be a pretty good sequel.

You know I really enjoyed movies from the 2000's that went off to have sequels that ended around the 2010's. I think they should've ended there and move on because I felt like there isn't really much to tell anymore.
Toy Story 1-3, Kung Fu Panda 1-3 and Shrek 1-4 are good examples of movie sequels that have good endings and shouldn't be revived or add a new sequel.
For me, I feel like the added sequels feel rushed and undercooked. Like I didn't feel emotional at the end of Toy Story 4, Kung Fu Panda 4 felt unncessary, and I'm afraid that Shrek 5 could be the same. I remembered when watching the very first trailer for KFP4 and I instantly felt like there was already something wrong with it, and when I watched the movie, my suspicions were correct and that wasn't a good thing for me.
I always keep saying this, and I know there are many others who say the same thing. They need to stop pumping out unnecessary sequels after sequels. If the triolgy or quadriolgy has a good ending with all the character's arcs completed, there is no reason why you should make another.
Yes I know companies want to bank off the success and popularity of the films they made so they make more sequels, but how long will that popularity and success last? Soon it will feel burned out and boring to the point it becomes terrible. Example, the Ice Age movies. I remembered watching the first three movies and I thought they were fine. But after they kept pumping out more of them, it began to become awful and unnecessary. I honestly wished they stuck to the story of the first movie, like maybe Manny and the others stumble across the human baby years later, now being a young man and reconnecting their bond or something. It saddens me to hear many studios saying they prefer to rely on sequels and nostalga rather than making original movies. And the problem is when they do make original movies, they sometimes fall flat or not capturing the appeal of others, like Strange World or Wish. It feels like companies don't give the directors or creatives time to flesh everything out and just quickly mash and glue things together and hope it works.
Another example, Frozen 2. I remembered watching a video on how the development in the movie's production was kind of rushed and they were close to the deadline. I know the sad truth is that companies don't care about the love of art and creativity anymore. Back then, creative movies strived and appealed to everyone, it was loved by all. And they still continued to be loved to this day. Now, it's just about making money and soulless cash grabs with no heart. Some movies attempt to have heart or soul, but because of the corprate companies meddling the projects, they end up not being as good or amazing. Something I've been seeing lately *Cough* Wish. *Cough*
I don't know when they will finally realized their wrong doings and actually give creatives the money and proper time to make good movies again. It could be years from now. Not only that but artists are struggling to find jobs, especially in these modern times where Ai is advancing very fast and it threatens the jobs of artists, not just in drawing or painting or modeling, but in music and voice acting as well. And there's a message about relying on things to cheat your way into success or accomplishments. Relying on sequels and Ai is just going to end up ruining both the art, story, characters, and yourself. Your skills will not improve if you soley rely on a computer to do everything. You'll never learn, and others will look down on you for not even trying to make art yourself.
Wow, I went on a huge rant there. But it needed to be said because since the pandemic hit, I have noticed how some movies starting to go on a downfall and they just don't appealed to me anymore. Movies that I was looking forward to, only to find out they weren't up to my expectations. I know I shouldn't have high expectations, but given how I suffer from some sort of depression, I find it hard to find joy or excitement every day. I want to be excited for something new, I want to enjoy these movies. But they always end up making me feel nothing. I soon gave up on Disney after their poor attempts in making live action adaptation remakes of their original animated movies, because they're, "outdated". I had held these frustations for so long that it became a ticking time bomb, I hope some people understand what I'm saying. If not, ehh whatever. If you enjoy those movies, more power to you.

The fact that DreamWorks is doing Shrek five while releasing Megamind 2 and kung fu panda 4 and soon the wild robot, sounds like they’re really shoveling a lot this year. Either with effort or very little.
To be fair, Megamind 2 was done by Dreamworks television animation and not the core studio. I also don't think KFP 4 is as bad as everyone else says it is, I thought it was just okay.

Shrek Forever After didn't write Shrek the Third out the picture. Some elements from the third movie still made its way to Forever After. For example, The Poison Apple, the bar where all the villains used to hang out in Shrek 2 and The Third is now a safe place that you can rent for birthday parties and other events. In my head canon, King “Artie” Arthur is the one who gave the order to get that place cleaned up. Also, I believe that he gave the villains new jobs at the kingdom since they joined his side by the end of Shrek the Third. Another example, Mabel, a character that was introduced in The Third, made a brief appearance in Forever After, she was in the ogre triplets' birthday party. She's one of the Ugly Stepsisters, and she's the one who said "Looks like you forgot the candles" to Shrek's face at the party. Another thing. A picture of Fiona and the Princesses from Shrek the Third can be seen hanging on their wall when the ogre triplets wake Shrek and Fiona up. And, of course King Harold not being present in this film because he died in The Third.

I don't want a Shrek 5, please never make it. Let the franchise in peace and be remembered fondly instead of turning into yet another cash cow like Pixar did with Toy Story 4.

It's a mess!! The past three years really have been a golden age for original ideas. But thanks to covid (and bob chapek) now it looks like only sequels can succeed again!! They have it all wrong!!!
We had original ideas but sadly no nobody cared about them last year which led to the original movies to bomb in the box office
I think still has to do with covid scaring people away from movie theaters, and bob chapek making it worse, getting movie goers used to streaming their movies.
Shrek 3 had good jokes, so that's the only thing that didn't kill the movie
But not all the jokes were good and they're badly timed

No it won’t. There is nothing more to tell for Shrek’s story. Even DW knew that. Why do you think they called the 4th film the final chapter. This is just a cash grab. We saw what happened with Kung Fu Panda 4 when DW makes a sequel to a concluded franchise. It’s not good
We'll see. I'm just so happy to have another Shrek movie.
