If you're thinking of cutting cans, make sure you have a good knife:
    amzn.to/401n7gs
    And plenty of blades:
    amzn.to/3n4DTNf
If you use dull blades, you're going to have sharp edges and a hard time. These blades are about ten cents apiece and last 4-5 cans. Don't be stingy on them. They are still sharp enough for other projects after using them to cut cans, so save them for things that don't require as much sharpness.
Or, better yet, get a decent utility blade sharpener and use them forever:

    Aww hell yeah
I was experimenting with layers of HDPE from milk bottles for a while, but I could never quite get it right

    Right on. Keep it up!

  • @RutherfordBeehayze-kw2mz

Nice! I bet you could get some worthwhile voltage out of that if you had it turn a small gear and dynamo which you could easily create using any small electric motor from a battery powered fan, RC car, any D/C battery powered motor when turned backwards generates electricity

    You are doing great job.

We are getting energy with this one 🗣️🗣️🚀🚀⚙️⚙️💨💨

Please measure the "power" output on that stepper. Rectify the two phases and use a condensator to put them together.
I bet you will not even get 1W in a storm.
I have done it. It just does not work. There is no substitute for an actual generator, although similar to a motor.
You would be better off spending 20 bucks on a solar panel and using a 3 buck DCDC converter to get 5V for a USB powerbank.

I feel like you didn’t use enough plastic to recycle these properly, maybe 2 or 3 more plastic parts?

I tried it using beer cans, for some reason it didn’t work as well, but it didn’t seem to bother me.

How do you actually use the power? Might be a dumb question but I’m new to electricity. Can you feed it back into your grid or something?

    • @Professor-Scientist
      @Professor-Scientist Před rokem +1

Can use it to recharge a battery, however it wouldn't create a lot energy.

@@Professor-Scientist I figured. But as a hobby. Where would one start? I obviously shouldn’t just splice an old charger on the motor right?😂 I’m sure there’s a lot of great tutorials out there but I’m not even sure what to look up that doesn’t skip a lot of steps

That's a complicated way of doing it; but, sure... A windmill made of recycled cans, plastic, screws, etc.

Oh c’mon, you could deburr the edges, or round them enough to have it not be sharp, don’t be a downer 😂

You went and "recycled" three soda cans, but used probably 30 empty bottles worth of new plastic.
