People surprised Al has a good voice when he can sing anytype of music and has an amazing range and has since the 80s ....
well before pitch correction when you had to sing.
I've always had trouble understanding the words in songs. I have to read the lyrics to understand what the singers are singing. And yet, I've never had this problem with Al. His voice is always crystal clear no matter what he's singing, and he's a "comedian"!
Not at all surprised; Communication is his aim, so he isn't going "all Curt Cobain" any time soon.;)
To be fair, it makes sense. Most of his forte depends on smart lyrics, so clear pronounciation is basically his art lifeline.

Al actually has a pretty incredible vocal range. Been a fan since "Another One Rides the Bus".
I fell off the Dr. Demento train at some point, but made it a point to listen the next week. That show was the Weird Al's debut album release celebration. So I missed the early days, but jumped on the bumper of the bus as it pulled away from the curb.
The fact that he sang that well sitting down says a lot
My first-ever vinyl was Dare to be Stupid. Took my daughter to Weird Al when she was 6, it was her first concert, she became as big a fan as me 😁

Hey, Al has been spoofed many times. For example, his song "Fat" was spoofed by Michael Jackson as "Bad", and his song "You're Pitiful" was spoofed by James Blunt as "You're Beautiful." (But it's worth mentioning that although both of those parodies were hilarious, they weren't as good as Al's originals.)

Wow, man. I was 10 when Eat It came out. I never would have guessed his career would this damn long. I used to work at a bagel shop in West Hollywood in the late 90's, and Al came in a few times as a customer. We got a fair number of celebs in there, and they always had a "laying low" vibe about them when they came in but Al was super friendly, and the only one who didn't give a DAMN that people recognized him. Very cool dude, and his easy sense of humor...He really just comes off, maybe not like a best buddy, but like someone you went to school with your whole life. IDK, but having this dude around makes it seem like SOMETHING is still going right.
