Morning! Thank you so much!
God's Blessings to YOU & FAMILY DOWN THERE !!! Linda P.
Boy that was an excellently produced video explaining the process clearly and concisely...I don't have a Hustler but a JayZeePro that I just inherited and it likewise leaks like a sieve. Was dreading the rebuilding or worse the replacement of the Hydros but I'm feeling pretty confident now to replace that O ring first...and as for those bees, I likewise have one of those flowhives and that too is the smart way to manage 'em...keeps 'em happy and us too. Cheers.
Thanks so much!
Mornin Tim. . That looks like a beast of a mower.
As Tim Allen would say "Argh Argh Argh!"
Great informational video Tim
Thanks! I try to add a little fun at the end for my regular viewers.
Nice job Tim!
Thanks!

Very informative and to the point.
Thanks Mark!
great video. Really appreciate your narrative!
My pleasure!
Good job Tim. Master mechanic. You could do that as a side hussel. Go ridgelife
Ha! Thanks.
Great video shows exactly what I needed on my Hustler Fastrak mower. One question for you I have. When removing the oil pump housing to replace the o ring, does this drain the transaxle of all hydro fluid? Should I be prepared for a flood of oil to come rushing out once the housing is removed? Again, Thanks for taking the time to make our lives a little easier with your expertise & skills. mardyn
It will drain the whole transaxle and reservoir so If full, yes it will. Thank you so much.
Good Morning Tim 🌻... Great video! Mowing around the bees would make me really nervous 😃❤️
You and me both! HA!
Good video..easy to follow instructions.
Thanks!

@@RidgeLife 153 fish..15th day 3rd month 153, lol I always wondered why the 153 fish were mentioned, n what does it mean. Hmm. Maybe
Great vid. I did this in May 2022 around 100 engine hours ago, and it was the perfect fix. Happening again now though. Any suggestions or ya think this is just expected maintenance now? At around 900hrs on the mower.
You can replace oem aluminum cover with new steel upgrade but the oring is cheap.
👍
Howdy
Thanks for this. Did your overflow reservoir ever get a leak from the hoses?
Still does!
Nice video. So it is ok to run regular synthetic motor oil in these hydro gear transmissions? I have a Hydro gear ZT 2800 in a cub cadet m50 tank do you know which oil weight to use? Not sure if its 20W 50 or 15W 40
The Hustler manual states motor oil. I use Castrol GTX 20W-50.
Ask many people in the past about hustler lawnmowers If they like them? The price you pay for them very hard replace parts on them. For the price you pay for them.
Very true!
Just ran across this video while searching for an answer to the leak on my Gravely with the ZT3100 Hydro-Gear transaxles. Didn't see it mentioned in the video, but I assume you have to drain the oil from the transaxles before pulling the plate and replacing the O-ring? I just replaced the oil and filters and found the leak afterwards...not wanting to drain the oil again if possible.
Mine was almost empty from
The leak but yes. You definitely don’t want to reuse contaminated oil.
Hi Tim.
In the video, you filled the reservoir with oil to draw into the transmission. Then you started the mower. Won't this cause undo wear on the "dry" transmission? I think there's a vent plug at the top of the transmission that will vent out the air, and fill the transmission almost full of oil. That way you aren't running that transmission with no oil.
I currently have a zt-3100, on a Husqvarna, that seems to lose power, or maybe is cavitating once it gets hot. I just got this a couple of weeks back, from a neighbor, so I'm still working the bugs out.
I didn’t see that in the manual for this procedure. Did I miss it?
I’m pretty sure the bypass does that.

IDK. I have an old 61" Everride, with individual pumps and motors. I bought this little Husqvarna for $100.00 from my neighbor. Originally, I was going to use the engine, but it's in such nice shape I think I'll just use it as a spare. The Kamakazi engine on my Everride is one of the trash one's that Kawasaki made, with no oil gallery to the top bearing. I've had it apart a couple of times to put a new top seal in, and to replace the governor. The governor just blew apart again, so I cannabalized an old Crapsman for the 23 hp. Kohler.
The neighbor said it was losing power on that left transmission, but it ran fine for 2 or 3, 4 hour cutting sessions. It just acted up yesterday. Then it was fine after it cooled off.
Hi Tim,
Ran across another deal. I got a zt-3100 transmission for $15.00. Unfortunately, it's the right side. I should have asked a couple of extra questions about it. The seller told me as I was leaving that there may not be anything wrong with the transmission. Once I got it home, I noticed that the charge pump cover was the heavy duty one and looked new. I'm wondering if the guy did it himself and stuck it on backwards. But, I now have a bunch of spare parts, regardless. My left is acting weird. I wanted to ask if a leaky charge pump could be my problem. My left transmission is losing power after about two hours of mowing. Any ideas? I did get a new charge pump kit. You said the charge pump helps to deliver oil to the main pump to help it not cavitate. If that's weak or leaking, can it suck air into the system? Thanks. Al
Thanks for the video and part info. Are there any torque specs on the cover bolts? Just get them snug?
I’m sure there are but I just sniffed them and went back after first operation to check as I sure didn’t want to deform or strip the holes.
Thanks
Torque spec is 100-130 inch pound
@JM-yx1lm thx!
How often should this be done? Is this common for all the ZT drives?
Very common with the original soft metal covers. Newer models are more well protected.
😀
All good!
Very good, but how does the air get out without some kind of vent to crack open? Thanks.
It gets out via the bypass valve during the vent process.
@@RidgeLife Thanks
With cap on or off?
@@Sethhaun78 Off
Don't have one, I have an electric push mower. But I'd listen anyway
Thanks!
You never mentioned if you drained the fluid out of the hydrostat before taking the charge pump cover off.
It was pretty much empty from leaking! Ha!
I think it put the gear it wrong because it won’t bleed what do I do
Hmm. Check the manual or stop my video where I showed it and ensure it’s correct. Good luck!
How many hours until it started to leak?
Hmm. I don’t mind t keep track but it was over 100 for sure. I kept filling it up until the second one started and it got real bad.
go ridgelife
Thanks!
You need to clean up the oily mess before you fix it.
Yup!
Get a better mower 🤷♂️
