    A couple of tips: Early game don't produce steel beams but buy them from Archibald. Overproduce soap and sell the excess to the prison, make sure to set a minimum stock amount on your island and set up a shipping route for it. Beer is essential for turning a profit as soon as you reach the third tier of Artisans. Artisans also need fur coats for which you need cotton fabric from the new world, however there is an item (Costume Designer) that lets you swap out cotton fabric for wool. Completely eliminates a long journey to another region, super useful. Also, don't produce canned food right away when hitting artisans, it will always be a money looser and you should only ever built it when you are ready to upgrade to engineers.

    @einfachlasse7923 Před rokem +5

    Really nice to see someone play the game with such an unusual building style.
    A few tips i havent seen people post for first time players:
    At world creation remove Beryl, she can be too challenging when you play for the first few times.
    Trade Unions dont inherently boost anything. They need special items to do anything. Placing them without an item means they will just eat up your money and influence.
    Your population can give you quests too and they are usually very easy to complete. When you spot a crowd with a star on top just click on it.
    The correct ratio is actually two grain farms -> 1 wind mill -> 2 bakerys:
    1 farm produces 1 wheat per minute. A wind mill turns 1 wheat into 1 flour in a half a minute. Which means it can turn 2 wheat per minute into 2 flour. A bakery turns 1 flour per minute into 1 bread. Which means you need 2 bakerys to keep up with one mill.
    Fulfilling your populations needs for luxury goods is your biggest money source and should have high priority.
    Silos triple! the output of animal buildings and are nearly always worth it. 1 grain farm is enough to feed 5 silos.
    The A.I. players on the super small islands are considered "neutral A.I."
    They buy everything from you and buy specific goods for higher prices than normal (Selling Eli Bleakworth tons of soap is a strategy some people like to use early game)
    Finding Sir Archibald Blake is important, he is the guy who sells you steal beams which refresh over time. Producing them yourself is considered to be only worthwile once you reach the third population tier.
    A very important thing to not stress youself too much: when you reach the third population tier, if you own all the DLC, you get bombardet with quests for new regions and other stuff. The only one that is really necessary is the one for the new world expedition, you can save the rest for a point where you got nothing else to do.

  • @overlordflowers7641
    @overlordflowers7641 Před rokem +12

    The reason your income fluctuated so much was because you're not meeting your resident's demands fully. If you press CTRL+Q it brings up a statistics screen it brings up what is being demanded (by other factories or your population) vs. what is currently being produced per minute. Also, selling soap to Eli is definitely a money-maker but potatoes are not as worthwhile.
    Also, steel is a pretty expensive process in the early-game so it's usually recommended to just buy some from traders until you get a more robust economy.
    That said, I love watching your Cities: Skylines playthroughs so I'd love to see some Anno 1800!

    I literally started playing anno 1800 2 days ago, and now see you put up a video on it🥳
    It would be awesome to keep this series going.
    Just a few tips (if I may)
    Use ctrl+Q to see statistics of your production line, this helps a lot with balancing the budget.
    Every anno start has to start with a huge population, so try less decorating(I know it's nice, but not effecient), and it saves on the budget early on.
    You don't need to set your ship on a patrol rout to send it somewhere, you can rather just click the right mouse button at the spot you want to send it. Combine shift and RMB to chain your ships locations (this helps a lot with exploring) Talking about exploring, you can just right mouse click on any point on the minimap, and your ship will go there.
    Lastly, do as many quests as you can in the early game for this is an easy way of getting quick cash, and sometimes valuable items/people that you can use in your ships/buildings. If someone don't give you a quest, you can click on any ship with a starbon it, or sometimes citizens in your city gives a quest, just look for the star and click on it.
    Sorry for all this, but it's just some basics of anno I wish I knew when I started the game.
    Good luck and keep up the great work

Charlie replies "oh cripes I forgot I was in Wisconsin". Anyway, great video! The game looks pretty fun.

    Hey! Love to see you playing things and especially happy to see you with Anno, which I absolutely love.
    Your village is beautiful, as they always are, however your strategy is not quite ideal.
    With production chains, you should really have the production building positioned between the resource and the warehouse/harbour - this is to shorten the distance that the horse carts have to move, because there is a limited number of them. Your sawmill being so far away from the lumberjack is just making the horse cart spend longer in collecting the resource - it should be midway between the lumberjack and the harbor or the nearest warehouse.
    Additionally, population will not be angry about not having a product until you actually unlock it - ie, when you had 100 population, they were perfectly happy without fish because they did not even know it was a thing in their little universe (I know, doesn't make much sense, but true story). So, be careful of growing the population too fast, past a specific unlock milestone before you actually have enough money to buy and maintain those production buildings. Once the need is unlocked, you want a significant part of your population to have their needs 100% satisfied so that they may upgrade - the houses will never fill unless all needs are full.
    Finally, be careful of building so near the coast - coastal real estate is precious and as time goes by, you will really need it to expand your harbor. Those can become truly humongous especially when you have shipyards as loads of fishing harbors, etc.
    With that said, your settlement is SO much prettier than all the ones I ever tried. When you reach the point of the game when there are tourists, it's going to be a hit for sure. Just maybe consult some of the production chain strategies - once your population is huge, those become very hard to balance, so better get it right from the start.
    Source: soooooo many hours playing this game it's not even funny.

Unfortunately missed the Steam sale and its back to $59.99 :( but with my passion for city building sims I added it to my Steam Wishlist and will scoop it up when it goes on sale again, or when i have the excess funds to "treat myself"; thank you for introducing me to yet another amazing looking city builder Phil! You'll see it when you click on your income in the top left tab, it'll show the citizens as a plus and your maintenance as a negative. Each citizen type also gives you higher income. Hope this helps. Cheers!

    Wow, this is actually really good tutorial on how not to start a new game. You can always shift the buildings around later on and pretty build. Seeing him rushing to iron processing without having farmers needs fulfilled with lots of buildings out of range, hugely unbalanced production chains and building a depot while lacking the actual wares to store was just painful. Good thing is there is a lot of room for improvement.

    you should 100% do episode 2! AND 3 AND 4 tip: always place the market as close to your homes as possible. this means more happiness and money. also, build a lumber production chain first to get plenty of it. It's the most essential resource. leave plenty of space for buildings that produce happiness for civilians. you want to place these as close to the homes as possible, that's why it's best to place them in the center of neighborhoods. when you unlock a new level of the residence. You unlock a new building resource and build that chain as soon as possible. Also place emergency Servies as close to homes as possible

    @hanneken4026 Před rokem

    I'm not a very advanced player of Anno 1800 (I've gotten well into Engineers three times now, but not yet into investors), but I like it a lot.
    Here are a few things I've found useful to know, that your video reminded me of.
    1) Alas, the unattractiveness of everything concerning pigs, and all the industries that produce grey smoke, appears to be island-wide. It takes away attractiveness even if you hide it away.
    Once you get more islands, you can banish the pigs & tallow etc.to a smaller island where you are never going to get a public mooring, visitors and tourists.
    White smoke producing workplaces don't diminish attractiveness.
    2) Income comes mostly from taxes from your populace, so if you get more people per house, and they are happier, you will get more income. Production itself doesn't give income, as far as I've seen.
    They don't consume any more food & stuff, whether there is 1 or 10 people living in the house, but they do give more in taxes. So adding more houses will add consumption, but when people are happy and add more workforce per house, that won't increase consumption.
    Having a lot of unemployed people doesn't seem to make them unhappy, but they do bring in tax money; so a lot of excess workforce isn't so bad!
    3) The outer edges of the marketplace (or hacienda in the new world) aren't enough to sustain any housing on its own, that is why your first houses self-destructed. Look at the % of marketplace needs fulfilled for those houses; if it gets below (I think) 50% it's not enough if they don't get other stuff to keep them content.
    4) 1 grain farm will supply 5 silos.
    5) Buying steel beams from Sir Archibald is better than building a steel production line until you get to artisans, that is a money drain.
    Selling soap to the prison is a good source of cash at this point.
    6) At the prison, keep an eye out for some special 'items', the artist and the costume designer, for when you get to artisans.
    The artist will give them rum (from the new world) and canned goods (which are too costly to produce early in the game), and the costume designer will allow you to produce fur coats using wool (instead of cotton from the new world).
    7) To stop fires spreading, you need a 3 tile wide firebreak separation around explosion-prone buildings like the schnapps distillery. You can have roads or trees or farm fields or such in that firebreak, but not another building. The way you built your village at the start, with all the extra garden space, is unusual; but it does stop fires spreading from one row of houses to another!
    8) To increase your storage, build some depots in your harbor, and if possible upgrade your harbor.

    I only just realized U did this Ann1800 video a while back. It may feel overwhelming at first, but everything is well explained within game and U pick up things over time. Your building style is by no means optimal in terms of efficiency, but it's beautiful and unique and I think Ur audience would love to see some other games added to Ur "portfolio". Settings can be adjusted in sandbox mode so it becomes a story driven city builder with side missions and such without real danger from competitors or pirates (easy/creative mode). Please consider making more videos in Anno1800 or even small series.... pretty please ... please ;D

    Anno is a really great game, I'm glad you played it a bit. But the name of the game at the start is efficience. Later you can pretty it up however you like, you have tons of options for that. But First make the necessary supply chains, with the shortest possible travel time from the producing buildings and warehouses.
    ps: the campaign is really helpfully made to familiarize players with the mechanics.

  • @PhilliesNostalgia
    @PhilliesNostalgia Před rokem +1

    First off, that is not how you maximize your workforce. You don’t give them their own cute little street, when cars aren’t even invented, and you need as many farmer residences as possible to work all the farming jobs you need. The more farmers, the more you can leave as a surplus for when you get to artisans and so on
    Second, build your city around your marketplaces. This is not suburbia where you have to walk at least a mile before you hit anything besides houses. Decorations are nice and all, but save them for little park spaces or a median. Third, as some other have commented, build everything in the wood industry nearby. That means a warehouse, sawmill, and hut. The closer everything is, the better. If a warehouse can not reach something, nothing will get picked up.
    Third, maximize your space everywhere you can. If you are making this game into a series at some point. You will need large, and I mean large cities, and doing whatever this is will not cut it down the road

    A bit late, but you can buy Steelbeams from Archibald. Selling Soap to the Prison is a good way to make money early on, later fulfilling the luxury needs of your population is pretty lucrative. You can also passively sell items from your Trading Post (click on the icon of the ware). To get rid of wares from ships you can right click them (or sell them to a trader). Also I think you misread the production of the windmills, it is 2 farms : 1 mill, not the other way around. This is a minor gripe i have with the game, it shows production as time to produce 1t, which is unintuitive. Halve the time means double the production.

I've been really interested in the game since release, but hadn't bought it, due to the cost and not knowing whether I'd play it enough (I love city/civ builders, but hate those that include wars/conflict etc, so wasn't sure how it would pan out). In the meantime, I bought the ANNO history collection (all the history packs except 1800), and the one I've tried so far was pretty challenging once trade routes got thrown into the mix.

    My first idea starting out into the video: finaly a beautiful realistic city, not a min-maxed megahub. Your approach is so wastly different to the other yt'ers which i watch Anno at... they all maximized efficency over their game experience... you go for realism, beauty... a slow approach. Love it. :)
