  • If you own a guardian breed dog it is crucial to know that you are on a team! You need a plan for how to handle proper and improper guarding so that you can encourage your dog's natural guarding instincts without creating an aggressive dog.

This is great content and really helpful.
I was wondering if you could adress or show how you´d go about to teaching a Guard dog to not eat food that has been given to it by a stranger or worse yet thrown over the fence.
It is a common practice where i live for the potential robbers or even assholes to yeet some poisoned food over the fence.
This was something that i didnt really manage to find a way to teach my last dog how not to do. Luckily never happened to me, but i know a lot of people that lost their guard dogs because of this. I had a really great Doberman few years ago when i was living in a house, and this was my first and biggest fear. Tought him a lot, he was a brilliant friend, loyal companion, but this was something that elluded me, and videos that approach the subject are really scarce. Anyways, thanks for the content, really learning a lot of new stuff that i didnt know before.

Thanks for taking the time to drop a comment! We can definitely make a video on how to poison proof a dog. I will add that to the list and make one soon.
Just out of curiosity, where do you live and how often do you hear about someone’s dog being poisoned in your area?

@@SuburbanK9DogTraining No problem. I live in Brazil. Some places more, some less, but is a common practice employed by the bad elements here, to poison some wiener or sausage and throw it so the dog eats it.
As i said, my dobermann, was a really exceptional dog. I got him because my mother was moving to a house and even though we had cameras, i wanted that extra element of safety. But I wont lie, although he had a mean look about him, he had such a easygoing personality that it was likely he would play with the intruder, not fight him, lol. Unfortunately he passed with only 5 years, from cirrhosis, i took him to so many vets and when one finally found out, it was too late, matter of months. Really terrible loss. Never had another dog since, took it really, really hard. He was my best pal.
After that i moved to an apartment, and now my wife wants to move back to a house, and I am starting to look for tips and help again to train new dogs. Was thinking of getting a Rottweiler this time, cant bear to have another Dobermann yet.
I am not a professional, but it was someting that brough me great happiness and joy to train Quake (that was his name), but this time, seeing as i got a toddler too, i want to have every base covered, and i never managed to figure out how to make him reject food consistently.
Ideally to tell you the truth the perfect scenario would be to not only the dog dont eat it, but to come warn me. But a man can dream right. LOL.
Anyway, sorry for the wall of text. Really enjoyed your content so far, really useful tips and tricks. Learned a lot, and if i manage to move and get another pup, will sure utilize some of your teachings. For that i thank you very much, God bless you and yours.

Sorry to hear about your Doberman. Losing a dog is never easy😔
Rottweilers are a great breed and I hope you are able to get one soon. Having a dog is such a joy and it is definitely a strange feeling living without one!
I will certainly make a video on how to poison proof a dog because like you said there is not a lot of information out there on how to do it. The good news is, it isn't that hard once you know how to do it. It is actually easier than fully off leash training a dog. It just takes a good method and consistency.
Good luck with your dog search and feel free to reach out any time!

Hi my dog will bark at people walking by because he is a guard dog and thats what i want him to do...but i have seen people walking by tell him no and then he stops i am worried that if a real treat/person tells him no he will stop barking as well. What do i do?? I almost wish i taught him no in like german or something??

If he is taking his guarding seriously, then it should not be an issue. When you tell him "no" he stops because he respects you and wants to please you. If he is distrustful of a new person and they tell him "no" he will almost certainly continue to bark and growl at them. What breed is he?

Lol you should see my Malinois. Haha
