Nice one Jen, there's nothing wrong with adding a diesel loco to the layout. They are all loco's and should all be treated the same. Going back 20 or 40 years or more there was a clear animosity towards anything that replaced steam but every loco has its time. So many diesel locos were scrapped without a hint of preservation just like some of the steamers that were before them. Times and perceptions have thankfully moved on more these days and there is a place for the old withdrawn loco's of yester decade with of steam, diesel and even electric (if you can get the power) to run together as a heritage railway. Many thanks for sharing and dipping your toes into the DCC puddle.
Hi Jen, I'm of the belief that a model should *only* have the capability to model the movement of the real thing. By the very definition of the word 'model' it should model or replicate the real thing, and that of course includes movement. Sudden stops and starts in my opinion should be left to the world of toy trains. I have a battery powered O gauge locomotive and I have converted the controller so that it is impossible to make it stop suddenly. Its emergency stop is a realistic one, and that's it! If it's gonna crash it's gonna CRASH 😳 Tough! I then recover the crash in as realistic a manner as I can. As I think others have pointed out, you can adjust the rate of acceleration and deceleration by going into what they call the CVs (Configuration Variables). You know what they say, when in doubt, read the instructions 😀
Thankyou for sharing your thoughts on that and yes you are quite right far more realistic I guess. It's no doubt just the difference I've noticed going from DC to experimental DCC 😁
The DCC has deacceleration to make it look real on slowing down, it also has acceleration so when you set the train off it starts slowly then picks up speed, also don't forget to press number 1 to set the engine sound going
@@_j_loco_ DCC can be very tricky so just take your time, the big remember, the trains will just keep going till you tell it what to do, DCC. you control the loco, not the track as with DC, enjoy
That thing with coasting for a while before stopping brings to mind the time Pre-DCC when in 1980s I got a powerpack by MRC which had a switch for a new function "Momentum". The switch turned on a set of electronics in the powerpack which made the train accelerate more slowly and gradually as like a real one would, and then slow down and stop gradually as a real one would with the mass it has. Experimented with it some but didn't much use it as my layout was only 6 feet long featuring industrial switching/shunting. Also in play was the ego factor of having learned the old school powerpack well enough that I could drive up to freight cars and have the Kadees couple without the cars moving.😁 Even though I don't use DCC at home it has been good for the hobby.
Hi, some dcc chips have a feature called active braking, most common is button number 2 which by pressing you can bring the loco to a nice controlled stop. Might be worth giving it a try? I would have thought your O gauge ECT black five would definitely have the braking function.
Love seeing sybilla on your layout after been down the NYMR for the bank holiday. Like you said Sybilla doing the Whitby stretch between Grosmont and Whitby. The big 9F for the rest to Pickering 👌
Good to see you back Jen Diesels now 😂and DCC as well you will enjoy operating and listening to the sounds. Changing cv3 and cv4 to a lower number will be better 0 will stop and start them strsight away.😊
No need to apologize for having whatever you enjoy on your railroad. You are a train fan, so it may steam first and diesels second, but trains in general. Another great video Young Lady. Thank you for sharing. See you on Instagram.
That is fantastic and coincidentally this very week I purchased my first diesel a Class 25 which was inspired after a visit to the NYMR a little while back and seeing the one running there.
Stepping over to the DCC side and diesel too Jen! It’s a minefield and once you get to grips with cv’s to adjust the characteristics of the motor to suit your layout and the functions you’ll love it 😃👍 basic ones are F1 sound and F0 lights, you’ve already got to grips with the horns 😆 nice one and enjoy the journey 👍
Hello Jennifer you are back with you're dirty diesel locomotive...but with dcc it's ok at now... I follow you also on You tube long time ago .. so I see the video good night dear Jennifer 😅😊🤩😍❤
That's the beauty of dcc over dc, you drive the loco. I think it's cv4 determines how quickly the loco slows to a halt when you reduce the throttle. depending on the dcc chip, usually function F4 is active brake like the brake pedal on a car. Hold it on and the loco will stop quicker.
Good video, Jen .I have not had a train set ,since I was a kid in the 70s .I am amazed at how far it goes from you putting the control to zero 😮. I hope to go to the show on the witsun weekend .It looks good .
That Diesel slowing down like that, seems to be programmed to control slow down momentum. I am not sure on your dcc controller, but generally you can change that momentum speed to suit your locos. On the NCE powercab, you can change that momentum speed to slow down as you would like. Anyway, love watching your vids and love your layout. Regards Ken
Hello Jen and welcome to the world of dcc. You will soon get the hand of controlling locos and the inertia that you can programme into chipped engines. More to the point, it's lie the real thing as they don't take off like a bullet and stop on a sixpence. Just takes a bit of planning and I like 'driving' my trains instead of pressing a button. Don't forget if things look like they're going pear shaped, hit the big red button and everything comes to a dead stop.
Lovely running diesel, Jen. The horn worked well but I missed the sound of the diesel engine starting up and running. Perhaps more practice with the digital controller! Look forward to seeing more sound fitted locos operating.
Sir Nigel was in Newcastle on Saturday and he had a diesel at the back of his train, so I suppose it's allowed. 😁 You can change the braking distance with DCC but it's not so easy with those keyboard handsets. I'm not saying it's hard. It just means you have to read the manual carefully and remember what it says.
Not bad for diesel😂 You’ll soon get better with DCC It’s easier to drive if you have the engine sound turned on and some locos have a brake function. It should tell you in the instructions
Hello Jen, Another fun evening. If you want more grip on driving behaviour and a more sensitive response to speed change the CV3 value ( rate of acceleration ) and CV4 value ( rate of deceleration ( braking time ) of the loco decoder. Greetings from Enkhuizen , Netherlands Rupert
Hi J loco Have you seen the new black 5 from Hornby Glasgow Highlander Hornby R30226 and a black 5 with caprotti fitted Hornby R30227 just thought I would let you know as I know you like Black 5s
Hello Jen. Diesels aren't really my thing except for the really early designs from the 1940s and 50s era. I see you have a penchant for the Black Fives and thought you might be interested in watching the following 20 min video from Curator with a Camera: czcams.com/video/m_Z2Mc1w91g/video.htmlsi=KOD3x3s_WN3Mw5Iu Enjoy 🙂
Hi, the slowing down is controlled by CV4 if you reduce this to around 10-15 it’ll be a lot more controllable. 0 will stop it dead. I did this video few years ago, maybe helpful. MODEL RAILWAY - BASIC CV SETTINGS 4 REALISTIC RUNNING czcams.com/video/-pfhFHamfsE/video.html
Great to see you back Jen, we've missed you.
I absolutely love ur video and channel because I started to collect model hornby stuff keep up lovely work
👍lucky you.
😁❤️
Well done Jen, you have finally seen the light! Diesels are the way forward…..
Now don't get too hasty.....😂😂😂
My ultimate fantasy is Jen does a video unveiling a new loco on her layout and it's a 66/6!!!
I like the dirty diesels! They have their own charm. Glad you let them play too ❤😂
We have to have them to make our heritage railways look authentic 😊

Thank you 😊 every heritage railway has a few diesel's too so I had to have some to be authentic 😁👍
Yes, nice to see a diesel on the layout, well done.
Thankyou.... it's good to have a few to keep it authentic 😁

Cool run session, I love the horn too. It stops just like a real train. Thanks! 😎👍
Thank you 😁👍
🤣😂 the shear disobedience of that Sulzer 👏🏼👏🏼🙃😆👍🏼
Absolutely 😂😂😂

Sounds like you certainly mastered the art of using those power packs. I must try the same skill with these DCCs 😁
Nice Diesel running session 😊

Excellent. Hope you are enjoying your 25 ❤️
👍👍 Lovin Sybilla , strong sound / speaker . I'm more of a steam guy ,but I have my share of diesels. Proper fleet you have going there.
Thank you 😊 I'm the same...Steam....but we have to have a few diesel's to keep it authentic 😁
Can't wait to see 22/29/40/52/66's taking over the layout, at last my prayers have been answered...... 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 now don't be hasty 😂😂😂
Very nice 😮
Thank you 😊
Hi jen nice to see you again, like the running session with the class 25 love the digital sound well cool 💕🚂💕
Thank you 😊
Hi Jenny. Great seeing you. Layout needs ballast! Steam or diesel it is all good. Have fun and be happy. ❤ G
I agree Gary, you can’t have enough ballast, makes all the difference to a layout, adds authenticity 👍
Yes I do keep thinking I need to finish it but it's been a busy month chasing trains so might be winter now 😂 but I'm not saying which one 😁
Really cool. 🚂
😊♥️

You can't beat, a type two lol.

@ollychap1985 thankyou 😁 I perhaps need to spend time looking through the massive instructions book that was in the box 😁👍
@wantstowRD thankyou 😁I need to have a look at that. Greetings to you from England 🏴 and thank you again 🙏
Now you have sound any chance of getting some diesels smoke unit fitted, a 37 puffing out clag on your layout???
Consider adjusting cv settings 3&4 for acceleration and deceleration speed
Thank you...I will take a look
Hi J loco
