- This set is simply amazing. The quality of the loco and coaches is extremely high, so high, that when you factor in the amount of track you get, plus a station and controller - if you can get this set... do!!!

These videos were my childhood, the nostalgia is unreal
My first ever set. Got it when I was 5 and the collection grows every year
I got this train set at Christmas for £92 and you are right. it runs amazingly well! Great video
Have been re-watching some of these vids. I still love the love for the trains and the unique style.
Model trains have something about them that modern toys and computers will never have. They capture, in miniature, a part of the world as we'd like it to be or have been.
They capture a childhood memory, but also bring back the memories of any pleasant train journey since, when you read a book or watched the scenery go by.
No wonder I still prefer trains to any other form of transport. They are so much more comfortable than planes, buses and even cars.
Great video, as always!!! We watch you at least twice a day every day :)
Those are BEAUTIFUL coaches, I wish I could even afford it!
One of my favourite classic videos
This set is Brill! I will get this for my son this Christmas!
you are the best at describing trains. thanks for uploading and keep up the good work. lol
Wow this set is really nice and it is the first time I seen a train set with four coaches
hornby used to make train sets that had a lot of rolling stock nowadays you only get 3 to 2 when in the 80s you could get up to 4 and with freight trains you could get like 10 pieices of rolling stock
Beautiful train.
Epic vid, keep 'em comin!
Hey I'm just starting to get into collecting train sets
In O Scale, MTH made the Princess Coronation engines like that one in the set but it's called "Duchess of Atholl". They also made a set of blood & custard coaches to go with her which you have to buy seperately.
The loco and coaches are beautiful
another great vid!
that's a beautiful loco
i just wanted to say tat i enjoy watching your reviews and believe you give fair rulings, i seen a lot of the trains you have and i absolutely fell in love with this set. the loco is stunningly gorgeous along with the tender and the coaches are a beautiful color with the loco's blue, it looks so smooth, i wish i can get it but it's expensive and shipping to the U.S.will kill me. I hope you love this train cause she is my absolute favorite
thats a wonderfullllllllllllllll set you got there.
I'll be sure to check it out over the weekend!
Great video
Who's here in 2024? I remember seeing this video year's ago and it made me want to get the train set, which i ended up getting the loco on its own so it was more detailed, City of Bristol but nicer than this box set version. And then 5 red and cream full detailed coaches 😍 one of my favourite train sets I've got
@oricalcross - Digital Command Control, basically, controlling trains digitally. The power is always on - and the trains listen out for signals, telling them what to do.
beautiful train
Louis Holdcroft
That's just
Smashing
Always had a thing about steam locomotives with smoke deflectors, I dont know why. The train from the movie Anastasia was always my favorite, even though its not real.
wow cool train!!!
@toffie702 - flangeless wheels were sometimes used on long locomotives to help them get round corners.
i love the stanier tender a nd loco good vid thumbs up 5 star
@cazy1395 - she was about £130 from Trident Trains in Nantwich. They have a website and are happy to mail sets and locos out to anywhere.
I have a bachmann version all the passenger cars are blue though, but gorgeous. England has one of the most beautiful steam locos in the world.
my little boy age three loves your site he will sut here for ages watching you speak. shame you havent got any thomas train though
@DELTICDEMON122 - any swiveling frame of wheels underneath a locomotive or item of rolling stock can also be called a truck. As is typical with the English language, there are multiple names for essentially the same thing. :)
it looks like a great set nice video also
@Liverpoolfcfever - The locomotive is a Princess Coronation class and you can easily get that class of locomotive right now, really easily. However, the 'City of Bristol' is exclusive to this set (as far as I know). (It may have come out a long time ago on its own but the quality won't be as good as this one and it will be hard to find).
I love that train I would love to have it.;-)
@hihat101 - I don't think it's either a Railroad model or a superdetail model. But what I do know is that for a model that comes in what is essentially a train set, it's very impressive.
love your videos, especially this one, I even have the Royal Scot in the LMS colours from Mainline (i think?) in the old Maroon colours with coaches!!! very nice train I will say!! would love to send you a few to review that I have and maybe get more locos!!!
this is a very good train set
@LegoArtsProduction - yes! It's easy to find in lots of model shops around the country as it was quite expensive and didn't sell massively.
thanks will now im going to have to buy it
i love your railway man! its nice and large, the corners aren't too tight and its reliable.
Hi i managed to pick up this brand new from Modelzone in Croyden yesterday, it was priced up as 149.99 and i got on sale for 120.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!, what an impressive set, i am planning on rebuilding my model railway now i have moved house 8 monthes ago, so its great you get a decent amount of track, always glad of spare coaches and a handy little station, the loco is lovely and its i am guessing its Hornbys railroad standard line of models for this one because it lacks any superdetail
I really like your layout. I have a carpet railroad too. (Even though yours is on hard wood.) I wish I had the room you do. What does your wife say about taking one of her rooms away?
@Femmenition - if you can get her at a good price, she's well worth it. I think the set cost £130 from the shop Trident Trains in Nantwich. They have a website, which is just the usual before and after. But the UK ending, not the other one. (CZcams doesn't allow links in comments) GRRR
that trian is great ,i think i am getting it for xmas
@Kojoe93 - that's not the Pendolino, that's the Virgin Voyager Class 221 DMU
I'd like the set too, oh, and can I just point out- the Stainiers, MK1S and LNER coaches all run on MK1 frames so it is really easy to add weights
I'd love to - maybe I will soon!
when i had bought my pendolino i first had it on the floor and my dad kept asking me to put it back in the boxes but two couplings snaped. in the end i got it on base boards now and i got free spare couplings from the hornby helpline.
It sure is!
I think you can yes, worth a look!
@Whizzer1 - I have had this set for a while, but was asked to review her anyway, so I did.
It might just need a good service? When did it last have one?
@Hartsock91 - I have a controller going to each loop - connected via a section of power track
That's a different class for a start, but she is pretty good yes - as you can see. It's probably the best detailed 'train-set loco' I have.
I wish hornby released stuff like this now this is way better than what they do now they could say it’s a vintage release like airfix
yup! you'll see
Hi there I have seen a few of your videos now, they are great keep them comeing. As for the box you can always get a bit of sandpaper or your hobby knife and trim / sand the other edge of the polysterine so your trains are a looser fit. I recommend vacumeing it out before putting your trains in there but.
4 coaches - great!!!
true! very true
nice train :D
The loco's name is "City of Bristol" it's LMS number is 6237 and BR number is 46237
I wouldn't know how much it costs but I'm sure that's on his website
@yan2001123 - The pronoun "she" is sometimes used to refer to things which can contain people such as countries, ships, or vehicles, or when referring to certain other machines. If used, the terms she, her, and hers apply regardless of the entity's name - for example, "The U.S.S. John F. Kennedy (CVA-67) was laid down October 22, 1964. She was launched on April 1, 1967..."
Maybe a video on how to fit people to the seats as well as paint the seats, etc?
Um u have like like the worlds best layout just from me seeing like a sneek peek of it may u pls show more thnkx
@jaannetts16 - That exact loco? Or that class of loco?
@foxcell - thank you!
@samster412 - it came from an excellent shop called Trident Trains (search for them on Google, they have a website) and it was a bargain £130 instead of £180
@ilchyhammer - can be picked up for between £120 and £180 I think
@cubeproduktion - I'm afraid not but Hornby are happy to mail overseas - as are Hattons of Liverpool.
I often end up modifying the boxes whenever I get something new
@IgotPMT - thanks, will do!
@nxec43 - thank you! :)
nice,like her
Could you do a video of all your coronation class locos running?
@shininghappyperson7 thanks for the comment!
I got the Night Mail Train Set and I found that the carriages wobbled a bit so the first thing I do is ad some Blutack to the center of the bogies because then the blutack's out of sight. It worked for me :D
i like wobbly carriages there're meant to be wobbly
thanks for telling me
@kiwitram - ahh right. I didn't know that - thanks!
@MrJezza31 - yup! Not many sets with 4 nice coaches in!
Hello Will. If you are reading this, please could you review this set in more detail, like you have for some other locos?
@A4Express - it's risky. I put A4 Falcon back in her box, and it was so tight that some of her detail snapped off. I will never recommend putting Hornby locos and rolling stock back into Hornby packaging like that used for the sets. It's much better to wrap the loco or coach/wagon up in a tea-towel and to place that in a normal box.
Nice I never get hornby sets
for all of you who think the loco is gordon from thomas it is not gordon is a rebuild of the gresley A1 not a princess coronation class
anyway great review i need to get a princess coronation class it would be nice to have a collection of not just ex-LNER locos but classic LMS pacifics like her!
great vid your the one who got me in to hornby. what would you recommend class 50 or class 37?
@InterCity82 your welcome. lol have you or will you you probably be doing an opening of mallard or silver link? i am ordering them tonight and if you could give me some advising on them.
@InterCity82
Thanks for that. I'm gutted there's not many model shops here in Glasgow. There's like one wee one, Hamleys and Modelzone, but the later two only stock Hornby (and the extreme latter seems to be biased against the Pendolino :( )
nice
@TestValleyRailway - my fav packaging is Heljan. Beautiful boxes - if Hornby changed to something similar it would be a lot better.
can u plz do the falcon set. i would like to see how good you rate it and how good it drives.
@edwardsweeney24 - thank you!
@Femmenition it depends where you go, i got mine for £190 around February. well worth it, it's just a shame that more of the Duchesses didn't survive into preservation.
@trainsrus100 - I actually don't use the trackmats so most of them are recycled
Carriages look like old tooling - non-flush windows, and couplers are the original wide version, without NEM 362 pockets and shanks.
were did you get it and why can i get it now and how much for
would you recommend me binging it and is it a good train
Fantastic review, very detailed, nice track set up as well, great video overall.
I just uploaded a review of a Flying Scot Bachmann set from 1985-89 earlier, and I also own a blue version Royal Scot also from Bachmann, Unfortunately, the Blue Royal set is brand new, but engine is seized. I am in the market for just the engine if you or any viewers may have one spare you could part with.
I added you fav list, much too learn here no doubt, take care....
Why does it come with a Princess Coronation and not a rebuilt Royal Scot?
@GrandCentral00 - Trident Trains... they have a website
