    NS-1000 Clarity and detail is unmatched. I own two pairs of NS-1000m and They are my main reference. Me and my nephew recently got to audition a pair of Paradigm Persona 9H speakers on some McIntosh gear. These are modern speakers with Beryllium mids and tweeters, They were extremely harsh and very unpleasant. It was not until I got home and researched them that I discovered they are about 40,000.00 a pair!! The Ns-1000 sound waaaay better. I have yet to hear any modern speakers that can match the clarity and detail of the Ns1000m

    If you want a bit more musical speaker, Yamaha NS-1200 is insanely beautiful and even more rare than the NS-2000. This was Yamaha's all-out attempt to craft a musical speaker, and even had Wharfdale consult on the design.
    They cost even more than the 1000x, but didn't sell as well in 1987 because the Japanese market wasn't really in the mood for expensive, "classic" inspired speakers. This was the era of "future tech."

    I purchased some NS-1000s in 1981 in Iwakuni, Japan (USMC PX) ..
    Added sub, center, and effect speakers in '96 ..
    Gone through 2 receivers .. (original Yamaha '81, upgraded to another Yamaha in '96)
    All worked through Jan 2020 until ALL lost via storage incident ..
    100% traveling since ..
    Have not replaced system to date ..
    That was 40 years of ownership ..
    Researching replacements ..

      If you loved the NS-1000, get NS-2000 or better yet NSX-10000. I don't have the NS-2000 or the NSX-10000, but I heard all of them in the same room right next to each other and the NS-1000 didn't sound as good as the other two pairs.

  • @singedcarry

    The NS1000 monitor is true neutral. That's what I want. I don't want my speakers interpreting the music. I leave that up to the sound engineer and the DSP if needed. I will say this though, with a sealed woofer it's not as deep and warm as a lot of speakers, but every system these days uses a subwoofer. I think the NS1000 is perfectly paired with a subwoofer in the 21st century.

    Great review and history, have had them since 1991 and paired with MX1000 amp and they have been heaven. Recently I wanted to get into the net era sound and got myself a Yamaha R-N602 and I am surprised the speaker handled this receiver brilliantly as well. I don't have the budget for the latest Yamaha NS-5000 but when I get a chance I will surely give them an audition.

    I bought a pair 2nd hand. They need sturdy stands and close to a wall . I personally curtailed the mid driver down ( I have window and wardrobe door with glass ) and they sound superb. As long as you set these up properly you will get fantastic results

    There is actually an important reason that they are called "Bookshelf speakers": The sound is far superior, truly comes alive, when they are placed horizontally at a height of about 3', and the tweeters are separated by ~7'

    The NS5000s are fantastic.The NS1000s are good in their own way but have quite poor imaging-especially centre fill so the soundstage is too peanut shaped .You find yourself moving your head from side to side trying to get voices to lock in to a centre position but they never do.Bass is also overdamped because those woofers have a low Qts which means they should be used in a larger ported box.Troels Gravesen sells an upgraded crossover which improves the imaging.The stand out older Yamahas are the NS75T.They have fantastic imaging and much better bass than the NS1000s.

      You made me curious, I need to find and test those.

    • @RoyFJ65
      @RoyFJ65 Před 2 lety

      They are studio monitors so for the M, is critical they be positioned right or else you get the narrow image zone. I like the bass in them but a Yamaha YST-SW300 is a matched addition to them with fast tight bass for those who live some lower end extension. I use HS7 with HS8S sub for the same reason but for the NS-1000M I just prefer the precise mids and treble and not muddy them with any bass, but I mostly listen to classical, vocal, and jazz and some 60s,70s and 80s music. Maybe for current gen of music more bass is needed.

      @Thomo Thomo I have a pair of the Yamaha NS-75T's you mentioned, and I think I read your review of them shortly after I found them at a thrift/retail store. I paid $20 for the pair. They sound great. I have my NS-670's on top of them and I like them a lot, but the NS-75T's have clearer mids and lower lows. They seem more efficient too, but that may be because 75T's are 6ohm vs 8ohm for the 670's.

    1000M nice.built. have used '77 - 2022. my '77 pair and '96 pair, best speakers I have heard.
    bu thanks Yamaha.
    suggest search for home-used minty examples, as potentially could be used for pro sound-reinforcement, crocking be. domes, w-cone?
    will sound good, running at low volume, mid-high volume. any good sounding amp, will suffice, irrespective of power rating, as have sensitive magnetic circuit.
    caution(I've read) - ns-2000 uses foam woofer surround that often degrades, needs replacing-an awkward repair for most people, not sure about 1000X- if latter uses 1000m rubberized cloth surround, then ok.I have used 1000M with Nakamichi 410/430,Luxman CL32/MQ3600(tube), KENWOOD L-1000C/L-1000M combos, all with pleasing results, in small & medium size rooms, on 18cm stands, slightly angled in and high enough for axis point of mid and tweeter to be at ear level, almost flat against rear wall. hope this helps.

    Nice review, I got mine in 1984 and have not found anything better since. BTW tweeter and mid drivers were paired for the set by piano tuners. I find the impedance over frequency challenging, wherefore I use 400W MOS FET amps to power them.

    I hv a pair and love hearing people talk about them. Modern day sprakers blow them away. They are bright and thin imo. My Nautilus 803 and Elac Vela 403BS sound so much more musical. Not hating them, but its the reality.

    • @KITR-UK
      @KITR-UK  Před 5 měsíci

      I wouldn't say that specifically 'modern day' speakers blow them away, but rather 'different speakers'. Pretty much any Nudell-made Infinity speakers sound more musical.

      @webking185 Před 5 měsíci

      @@KITR-UK I agree. But the NS1000. is light sounding, bass is not poppimg. Im not looking for booming bass, just doesnt sound full. The mids are clear, but it just isnt that full sound I like, they even sound bringht. To me its a neutral speaker. I will say my B&W Naultilus 803 or the new Elac Vela BS403 sound better. And Ive used the 1000m with yamaha mx1 and mx1000. I know that it was a great speaker when launched, but when your comparing a 80s speakers to 90s is a big difference in make, material and modern newer parts imo.

    Yes... electrostatics. Nothing resolves detail and low level resolution better than a well designed electrostatic. Even some vintage speakers like ADS 910s with their extremely low mass domes and certain British designs like the Spendor BC3 and Meridian M1 were more transparent with measurably flatter response and lower stored energy than the NS-1000 and their Berylium coated domes. This is not to say that the NS-1000 aren't good. They are VERY good. But there is better. Experienced ears are rare. Talk to a man who's owned Quads or Stax electrostatics.
