    This was really great info!
But, it's not actually what I thought you were going to say.
    Here's my thinking on this:
I just ordered a Friedman IR-D which is a pedal with the tube-driven pre-amp and digitally simulated power amp and IRs (cabs).
Like a "real amp" (it IS a real pre amp) the effects loop actually DOES go between the pre-amp and power amp.
I'll puty HX Effects in the effects loop of the Friedman, but the drive pedal will sit in front of the amp.
I've been on the lookout for a great MIDI controlled overdrive pedal to put in front of the Friedman IR-D. I'll only use the time-based effects of the HX FX and contol it all via MIDI.
I'm thinking it should be a great rig.

Yeah that’s all exactly right. That right there would work great. I have the two notes revolut and could do the exact same thing for the live rig. I think this would be a great choice for the in front pedal. Or the Od 200

I'm late to the party here but an excellent couple of videos about the Nova Drive.
I think people sleep on this pedal and I agree it more than earns its place on the board (and I am quite choosy).
You covered all the options really well across your two videos.
Interesting and useful the bit about the drive level at the gigs. I totally agree.
I love mine for all the reasons you mention but also the smallish footprint and top mounted jacks. (Not helping you in this video!)
I have mine after an always on ZIO and into a Two Notes Pre Amp before a HX Stomp and I feel that combo gives me that "connected" feeling back that the HX Stomp on its own dulls.
I'm pleased to see someone else singing its praises!

Hey Cal. Thx very much for the comments glad you enjoyed the two videos. Yep this is a total keeper. It’s currently not on any board I have but I know it will be at some point in the future.
I’m using the Boss OD200 for gigs with the HXeffecrs and it does a very similar thing but with more options. It’s not as organic but still very useful

I’ve been searching YT for info on the HX effects lately because I just acquired one second hand. I came across your channel and find your approach, topics and level of professionalism top notch, best I’ve seen so far. Real life usage, that’s what it’s all about. Even topics like this which I hadn’t even considered. I’m using my HX FX with my Roland JC22, ofcourse loving my clean sounds already but looking for the best implementation of drives. In front of the HX, in a loop, or…right…midi. It looks like you have loads more movies on this topic, so’ll go diggin’ and learning. Thanks mate, really really appreciate it. Take care.

Hey De Groof. What a lovely comment. Thx a mill man. That made my evening. I’ve never used a jazz chorus. My understanding of it is it’s a pretty clinical amp right? Like super clean. In which case I’d say an amp in a box pedal like the bogner blue I o in one of the videos about the HX.
Alternatively the nova drive does work great with the HX effects

@@TheGuitarEffect you’re more than welcome man, you have already given me and a lot more viewers, I hope, a lot more insight in things that can be really time and money consuming otherwise. Indeed a bit of a clinical sounding amp and, but great for low levels. But finding a drive to my liking that warms it up is still a bit of a pain. You do mention some options that I hadn’t seen (American sound, bogner blue…, maybe some tech21 stuff) still have some more testing to do for sure!

Basically if you use an amp in a box style pedal you can re voice the JC for your dirty tone. Probably a good way to go. Thx again mate.

@@TheGuitarEffect I will give it a try. my goal is to find a pedal that is always on and gives me a Fenderish clean with with some grit that I can dial back with my guitars volume, that would be my main sound. When I need really clean, I turn that pedal off and have just the JC, when I need more grit, drive I wanted to use the drives provided by the HX effects. I’ll get there, and if not…it’s back to a tube amp 😀. Thanks again!

Great video! I can't manage to recall presets on the Nova Drive by changing presets on the Hx Stomp (which should be just the same as the HX effects). Any advice on how to set this up correctly? Are you using a Y midi cable from the ND to the Hx Effects MIdi In/Out? Which settings are you using on the HX Effects to send program changes to the ND? Thankssssss!!!

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  Před 9 měsíci +1

Hey. Thx for the comment. Ok so here’s what to do.
      1. Use a midi cable from the HX effects to the Nova Drive.
      2. Ensure you are aware what MIDI channel the Nova Drive is on.
      3. On the HX effects open the command centre, select a MIDI PC change, select the same midi channel and the Nova drive and then select ten preset number you want.
      4. Let me k so if that works

@@TheGuitarEffect thanx for the fast response, anyway i solved the problem by using the correct midi channel on the HX Stomp (i forgot i changed it in the past on the ND)... Thank you anyway!

You should check this company out... it's called Medea. They make only pedals with midi in/out that are fully analogue and have rotary encoders and visual LED rings.
