Burny RLG 60P. Goldtop singlecut. An affordable great sounding Gibson Alternative.
Hey all
In this video I'm taking a look at the Burny RLG 60P. It's a mid price alternative to a Gibson Les Paul. This specific model features P90 pickups which is a distinguishing feature from the regular double humbucker format these guitars take. I have a really nice Orville '97 Les Paul Standard made in Japan and it's the only Les Paul I'll ever need but I've been looking for a new p90 guitar for a while. I saw this in my local guitar store and it really fit the bill.
At €600 this is very much a mid price guitar equivalent to a Larry Carlton, Epiphone or Vintage. The P90s are some of the best I've ever heard but there are some setup issues with the guitar that I wouldn't expect from a guitar at this price point. They're all fixable issues but it's frustrating nonetheless.
Overall it's exactly the sound I was looking for, it's also exceptionally light for a Les Paul but no so light as to feel like a toy. With a bit of setup work I think this is really going to be a keeper.

    This was really great info! But, it's not actually what I thought you were going to say. Here's my thinking on this: I just ordered a Friedman IR-D which is a pedal with the tube-driven pre-amp and digitally simulated power amp and IRs (cabs). Like a "real amp" (it IS a real pre amp) the effects loop actually DOES go between the pre-amp and power amp. I'll puty HX Effects in the effects loop of the Friedman, but the drive pedal will sit in front of the amp. I've been on the lookout for a great MIDI controlled overdrive pedal to put in front of the Friedman IR-D. I'll only use the time-based effects of the HX FX and contol it all via MIDI. I'm thinking it should be a great rig.

Don't sleep on the Riverside as well! Strymon, Nux and Flamma are killing the game right now! Its' a golden age for players today. I think the tone deaf thing is all subjective. There’s a lot of big CZcams players out there whose tone I’m not a fan of but they’re not playing music taht I’m a fan of so I wouldn’t be a fair judge of what their going for. Great review. No surprise though as you tend to do great reviews of often not well known pedals. There is one thing, though, and this is about pretty much every pedal review video, not just you. Acoustic string noise. It is difficult to determine the actual sound of the pedal because the room or vocal mic picks up some of the acoustic sound of the guitar. Could the mic audio be ducked from a sidechain signal from the guitar? I know this would affect voice audio too, so it might be more complicated than I am making it out to be. Keep it up though. Great channel, and good to have Irish voices in the space.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect Před 22 dny

      Hey Gerry. Thx for the comment. Hope you are well. So, believe it or not there is absolutely no string noise (bar one or two missed moments per video) in any of my videos. As soon as it’s recorded I go in to the audio and mute my vocal mic whenever I’m playing the guitar. The guitar is recorded direct so there’s no string noice of any kind. If you are hearing string noise on this it’s just inherent statiness!!

    Been looking for a first electric guitar. Wanted something versatile, because it will be my only electric guitar for awhile. But didn't want the usual Les Paul or Fender clones that you see everywhere. The Gretsch Electromatic Jet turned out to be *exactly* what I was looking for. Great price. *Superb* quality, considering the price. Not the same old guitars that you see every beginner with... I had to special-order it because I need a left-handed guitar, and no one stocks the left-handed ones, apparently. So it'll be a few weeks before it gets here, but I'm very much looking forward to it. I had to get the G5220, not the G5230, because they don't make the G5230 in lefty form. Only difference is the lack of a Bigsby (which I didn't want anyway -- don't need that on a beginner's guitar) and the Broad'Tron instead of the Filtertron pickups. (I can always upgrade to Filtertrons later, if I feel the Broad'Trons aren't good enough.). But despite those differences, the videos I've seen sound like it has pretty much the same tone. I really like it!!

    Sean from lovepedal has a good ear for tweaking circuits. This is just a Tube screamer circuit without an input and output buffer (transistor based buffer). He also has many versions of a one transistor boost with clipping. COT, Champ and Tchula etc are nearly same circuit with minor changes. Ok. If you have an amp and play through an amp get an OD200. If you play at home through monitors or headphones get an IR200. The IR200 is an amp medeller so you can switch between and clean and dirty amp. That’s a way to get distortion. But it’s not a distortion pedal per Se. Ive been very tempted to pick one of these up myself since they came out. I'm a fan of a simple analog preamp that you can just quickly dial in and tweak rather than flicking through menus and parameter settings. This thing seems to really divide people, ive heard a few decent demos and some truely dreadful ones if im honest. On paper the revolt would be ideal for what i want. Yours is definitely one of the best demos ive heard of this unit. Im looking forward to hearing your future videos on it. Im still a little on the fence. But i still think this and my HXFX would make for a very tidy fly rig that could go direct and also into the fx return of an amp when needs be

      Hey Philip. Thx for the kind words mate. Very much appreciated. I’ve had the channel for 3 years now. Pretty happy with where it’s at but finding the time with the family and bands is a challenge! So regarding the revolt. I reckon it’s a winner. The clean channel is a little sterile (as in it doesn’t really break up in a mega pleasing way) but I reckon in a wedding / function band setting it would be perfect. I don’t do that gig anymore so I’d prefer a little more personality on the clean channel but there are ways around that. Take a look at this. It’s my current HX effects board. I use it for gigging direct or through an amp or recently both at a festival where I went to an amp for onstage monitoring and the IR200 for front of house. czcams.com/video/movDPi03mMo/video.htmlsi=raWZiNpLYJ3s8DDl

      Hey Philip. So yeah I’ve tried it with humbuckers. (Low output humbuckers though) and it’s still not really breaking up meaningfully. It does break up with the boost, but the boost has an EQ thing going on that works great on the dirty channels but it’s a bit odd in the clean channel. To be honest I think the clean channel is neutral so that you CAN style it with a pedal. Like, I reckon that’s the idea. If you ever want to borrow it you are welcome. Only thing is I use it for making demos so I couldn’t be without it for more than a few days and I think you’re in Sligo right.
