Yep. His run in TNA should be considered all time great, but it literally all went downhill after the Angle feud as he was booked so badly. His time in NXT was the closest he got to a final, quality run. Had he not been hurt so much when he made it to the main roster, I think he'd have gotten a run with either the WWE or Universal Title.
I'm always going to be surprised every time I hear ROH World Champions and not hear AJ Styles after that. Crazy to think he never held it before
AJ was never really a full timer in ROH, so the PURE title was all he won, he usually seemed to pop in for a few months and disappear (to TNA) for a year or more only to return for another short stint.
no doubt ! he had crazy good matches there ! Him vs Low Ki is one of the early ROH matches that got me hooked ! Too many to name though !
His tag team with Amazing Red was really good

AJ always felt like a special attraction rather than a true roster member he was TNA's guy right from the start.
More ROH and MLW coverage needs to happen in the wrestling community. Both are so damn good.
ROH seems to get mentioned far more than MLW. They've been around for a long time but just don't get brought up much.
People sleeping on MLW like its Lunesta. Its one of the best wrestling promotions in America right now (my opinion).

Man, ROH really loves to strike when the iron is cooled down with their champions.
There was a time when you can watch ROH and figure who they were pushing to be a world champion at some point... They took so long some where already past the time (Castle, Taven) while other were already gone (Bennett, Page, Ciampa)

The Briscoe brothers stayed at my hotel around 2019. Great guys and extremely friendly. I was one of the few people who recognized them. When I ask them about being notice they said "It a nice change to not be recognized but if we do, we let the fans know how much we appreciate them" it was a nice day for a wrestling fan like me.

The Joe vs Punk trilogy is the best thing ROH ever did. Match wise, at least.
In retrospect, considering all the allegations, it's probably best that ROH did not put the World Title on Marty Scrull. Especially as it was right in the middle of them being a dumpster fire.
As an aspiring young wrestler, the ROH world title is probably the belt I dream about holding one day the most

Being objective, the best ROH champion was Joe but as a personal favourite i´d do with Nigel McGuiness cause the whole story of the title reign was so beautiful and tragic with the emotional win, the fans turning on him and him growing spiteful combined with all the classics and injuries and so many title defenses

The fact, ROH had so many awesome champions is just a sign, they now what they are doing
just hearing the name bryan danielson you have no choice but to imagine a sea of fans singing the final countdown as the goosebumps appear on your body getting more and more excited in anticipation of the only athlete that matters arriving ready to display a wrestling clinic as 200 fans sound like 5,000 in a show of appreciation & respect for his craft

Ive followed ROH since day one . And EVERY one of these champions you ranked , i loved or at least liked to various degrees . That is hard pressed to say about any other promotion thats been around 20 years or longer . Loved ECW but they had some questionable champs , dont get me started on TNA or WWE ! lol ! I wish ROH woulda had a big backer like (but not) Tony Kahn swoop in during Joe , Danielson or Nigel era , bringing them on national TV like AEW . You never know how things would be now ! Also , I wish Nigel could have shown the mainstream fans what he could do .

Masada would definitely be put on top of that list because of his history in the Tournament of Death, including his wins of Tournament of Death X, Tournament of Death XI, and Tournament of Death: Europe, thus with him becoming the first to win it back-to-back on a record 3 different occasions while also being the first to win it while being the CZW World Heavyweight Champion
When AA beat Joe for the title it was one of the most exciting minutes of wrestling i'd ever watched the crowd could feel a special moment was happening that's the sign of an all time great champion.
I really hope Joe can end his career on his terms and have another big run he's earned it.
I watched that match on MYSPACE.
This brings back so many memories. ROH used to come to the Detroit area a lot. Me and my best friend (and even my wife) would go to the shows! Some of the best pro wrestling I have ever seen!

Top 3 being Joe, Nigel and Danielson is pretty much a given. The order is difficult though. I give Danielson's reign a bit of an edge over Joe's. Joe reign was humongous in terms of days, but Danielson made an insane number of defenses. Bryan also had more quality opposition and matches.
In terms of importance though, it can be argued the company might have ceased to exist after the Feinstein scandal if not for the Joe reign- especially the Punk trilogy.
Taven reign's timing could not be any worse. Its a noble thing to reward long time servant of the company, but you could still argue if he can compared with past champions. This was also the time company was having exodus left, right and center and receiving bad limelight getting outshined by New Japan. Taven helped bury the final nail in the coffin and company is still suffering from that bad buzz.
List did Xavier dirty ranking him so low. Overall though, good content as usual

Too little. Too late. His appeal wore off pretty quick. He just didn’t have what it took to carry the company.

When he got the belt, PCO was more over with the fans than Marty Scurll. PCO was over without being part of Villain Enterprises.
Still to this day, Tyler Black AKA Seth Rollins is arguably the most successful guy ever came through ROH. He was ROH Champion, He was Inaugural NXT Champion, He is first ever FCW Grand Slam Champion. He became WWE Champion twice, Universal Champion twice, reigning World Heavyweight Championship, 6 time tag team champion in WWE outside WWE more and 2 time Intercontinental and US Champion which made him the second ever two time grand slam champion.
No one achieved success as much as Rollins achieved as a former indie wrestler.
CM Punk and Danielson are also in the conversation though.

Matt Taven's world title win was wonderful, the guys in front of us at the event hated him so much and wouldn't shut the hell up for the entire show. Him winning was perfect and shut them up for like 5 minutes. They also thought Shane Taylor was D-Von Dudley for some reason.
I was surprised to see Davey Richards not being in the top 10. Although being at number 12 I’m ok with that. I have said it for years he’s my all time favorite wrestler. I encourage all to check out his matches. I’m glad he’s back now with MLW.

A really good list. Although proof that ROH’s best days are LONG behind them.
I stopped watching them for the most part a little after Gabe left. I’m sure there’s still some good stuff going on today worth watching, but it will never be as good as 02-07
What an all-star lineup this is. Amazing to see these guys before they became more famous in (mostly) WWE.
I love this list. I was never an RoH guy but this gives me some rabbit holes to go down. I like when you guys do non-WWE stuff. There’s probably not as much of a market for it.

If you ask me, I think that International Deathmatch Wrestling Legend Masada (who spent most of his beginnings of his career in the original Ring of Honor) should've won the version of the Ring of Honor World Championship with the gold on it and the flags of the United States, Japan, Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany on it.

I'm speaking as an outsider here, but honestly I think it says a lot about how well the ROH Championship is booked that even most of these bad reigns still seem pretty decent - on paper at least.
It was wierd seeing Xavier so low they took full advantage of people dying to see him lose, It was actually a good run to build the title up.

Dem boys are easily top 5 tag teams ever, and completely underrated. They've been in the ROH tag team title scene, since day 1, and have been viable contenders the entire time. Imho, I believe the most critical aspect of tag team wrestling is experience together as a unit. So they have to be considered the best tag team on the planet. No other brothers in the history of major pro wrestling, ie... ROH, New Japan, Impact, WCW, ECW, NWA, Noah, AAA, etc, have the amount of tag team titles, with the same company. Its unheard of. So to me, they're the best tag team alive, hands down. Best ever, perhaps. At least top 3
No disrespect to Taven as a worker, but yeah, I never quite bought into him as "THE guy" - which is weird considering the comparisons made. Oddly enough I'm one of the few guys that didn't mind Jarrett as champ in WCW, and I actually loved Credible as champ in ECW.

The way I always saw it you always had the four pillars of Roh for each respective decade (joe punk Aries and Danielson) for the 2000s and (black Steen cole and lethal for the 2010s) much like all Japan in the 90s

Did the ROH championship become a full World title, when they did a joint event with Britain's FWA in 2003? Samoa Joe defended the title against the Zebra Kid there.
That is correct.
Jay Lethal's should be lower and Kevin Steen's should be higher cause Steen pretty much saved ROH from the hole Cornette had dug for the company. Steen winning qas basically a triumph for the fans over the "company's favorite" Davey Richards aka man of zero personalities. Adam Cole's reign you put in 5, but it might have a top 3 argument, tho Bryan, Nigel and Joe are best top 3, I agree. My top 5 should be : Joe, Nigel, Bryan, Cole, Steen.
