I agree that in the U.S. we need to follow the law. But in this particular case, there is strong evidence that this payment was made to hide the story from Trump family. If that is true, then it is NOT breaking the law. It may be a poorly written statute, and it's awful morally, but that's a different issue.

Every politician campaigns year round and only need to report items solely for that purpose, ie yard signs, commercials and the like. This is made for tv like 1/6 hearings. This case with Hope Hicks is highly unusual. She wasn’t called as a hostile witness . Hope was brought up under a subpoena by the prosecution. I feel she is going to have very conflicted feelings tonight . From the pictures - not sketch artist - I’ve seen of her she appears to have aged beyond her years since she worked for Trump as his “ Aide De-Camp “ as it were . I feel for her albeit I’m not a Trump supporter.

So far, no crime has been demonstrated. It is not illegal to sign an NDA; and there has been no evidence to support a campaign finance illegality. Moreover, campaign finance laws are federal, not state. This is a lawfare effort on the part of the democrat party.

Her testimony actually makes the case that there is no crime, because she said that Trump wanted to keep the story from his wife, and that destroys the claim that this was a violation of campaign finance law, (even thought there was no violation of that law to begin with regardless of what the reason given was), because any payments done for personal reasons in not a campaign expenditure, and can't be paid for with campaign money, so this clearly doesn't violate the federal law Bragg wants to claim was violated.

I haven't followed the trial so I am giving my answer based on your response but I'm sure the prosecution have other witnesses who can corroborate the hush money issue.
