  • Day 6. Thunderstorms and heavy showers in the area meant diverting off track multiple times from Griffith Airport to Moorabbin Airport. This pilot vlog features our departure from Griffith after a heavy shower has just passed through, flying under the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) across New South Wales into Victoria. We have to fly a few holding patterns before overflying Mangalore Airport to let another storm cell pass. Then fly through cloud around Melbourne before descending and landing at Moorabbin Airport.
    This is the last leg of a 6 day adventure flying solo from Melbourne to Longreach in Queensland in a Cirrus SR20 under the Instrument and Visual flight rules.

    VERY IMPORTANT: I am a private pilot and am NOT qualified to give flying instruction. This video, like all videos on this channel, has been significantly edited from the original source footage and is provided for entertainment purposes only. Many radio calls and procedures have been omitted. If you have any questions about anything you see or hear, please speak to a Certified Flying Instructor first.
    Filmed on a Canon EOSM6, various GoPros, and sometimes my iPhone. Audio usually from Epidemic Sound.

    Hi Stef. Just finished binge watching the entire series. Can't wait for your next trip to start soon. The itinerary looks great! Don't underestimate the effect you have on those of us trying to gain our PPL. Your other videos on the more technical stuff is equally great, but this is what it's all about. Going out there and see great places and meet great people. I've seen you go through 5k, 10k and now 15k. Great job, you deserve it. All the best! Steven.

      Haha, thanks Spiro. I'd love to have a go in the Vision Jet, sadly that's going to be out of my price range I think. Although a jet rating video would be a heap of fun... Cheers, Stef 👍

    Do you need to request a deviation OCTA? I thought you could just advise ATC you're deviating as required.

      @StefanDrury  Před 6 lety

      Still working on the upgrade and hope to announce that soon. But I'll definitely share the journey here. Was Lake Nagambie the one I was doing a hold around, just North East of Mangalore?

    • @r08800
      @r08800 Před 6 lety

      Stefan Drury certainly was. I could see where you passed the rowing course and everything. I used to camp up there around Easter time and head down to mangalore for the airshow they used to have. That was a loooooong time ago. Last one was in the early nineties I think.

    I recently discovered your channel and am enjoying your videos! I'm wondering if you can share some information about the red camera mounting platform on the ceiling of the plane. Is it custom-made? Purchased somewhere? Thanks, and keep up the great work on the videos!

    Hey Stef - I just finished watching the Longreach series (I know, I'm a bit slow in catching up!). I have a question regarding the lack of VHF coverage you had (episode 6). Do you fly with a satellite tracker like Spot or Garmin InReach in case of emergency (or are these type of devices available in Australia)? I suppose if you rarely fly into sparsely populated areas it's not necessary. Just wondering.

      Stefan Drury I wish... That'll be next year... Managed to cross hire the plane for a CPL pre lisense at RVAC... Looking forward to the next phase of IFR for sure... Vids are mint.. Keep em coming mate
