Great and informative review, with detailed descriptions of sound quality that match my experience. One night of opening them around a block a little larger than my head solved the clamping issue for me.
I don't mind them on my Loxjie P20, in balanced mode (they are unusable in single ended), but I do hear the distortion, and there is some music that it doesn't work on. I did order some cheap Soviet tubes, but that was more for the novelty, and less the sound quality. I'll let you know... I generally use the HD 600s with the Archel Pro that I only ordered because I was impressed with the Enog2 Pro and the service of the company. The Archel Pro is nice, clean, and has perty lights.

The P20 really befuddled me with the HD600. I thought it would be a good match.
Yes the Geshelli stack has great synergy with the HD600. It's almost like Geno and Sherri built it specifically for the HD600 🤔

A good soundstage as appose to none or very little will create even more seperation and air making them breath even more would stop it getting confused and meshing things together when there is a lot going on in the mix so totally understand what your saying
It is still incredibly close to perfection than most

Lovely review as always Dave. Glad you managed to pick up a pair of these, the HD 580 and 600 are my absolute favourite headphone of all time. Everything I listen to on them sounds just so 'right'. The timbre and tonality is something I've not come across on any other headphone I've tried, including some over three times the price of these. Unfortunately, I feel the new HD 58x and 660s don't rival the overall smoothness and treble 'sweetness' that these have - so I feel you've made a good choice getting these over them, likewise with the Classics over the Argons.
    Take care.

Thank you for the kind words. Best timbre and tonality I have heard, besting Focal, ZMF and MrSpeakers and I think very highly of those. And the HD600 is 22 years old 😁👍

Sennheiser hd600 if they had more soundstage you would have more are between seperation which would make everything breath even more and when a lot of things going on will get confused and mesh things together
So reasonable soundstage would turn a nearly perfect headphone into a perfect one
But with all that there still truly awesome and all the series from hd580 all deserve there legendary status in this world

Nice review! I have mine for just over 20 years now and thus can vouch for durability. I only recently replaced the stock cable. I am in the market for something new though with all the 600’s qualities but added base and soundstage. I know not an easy task, the Aeon open 2 might be up to the task?

Today "I took home" HD600's from the store ( the new version without sparkly headband, and with more humble case. I looked for smth good for producing music, and mixing. I got to compare them to DT880 Edition 600Ohm (comfy while oddly small for my ears..and they had that added Beyer brightness, and they really need substantial power), HD 660s ( complicated to compare - some tracks sounded better, some worse compared to HD 600 - in the end not better enough to squeeze that extra from the pocket), DT1990 ( same comfort remarks as for 880, nice full sound, but still with that nasal smth in treble which was nice on some tracks, but...again - not better enough for extra buck), HD 560s...- maybe they are analytical but by exposing some frequencies...they kind of made me deaf to others. Finally - Ananda...above my budget by a lot, but...hmmm. Yes the space and separation was impressive...and on "The Battle" from the Gladiator soundtrack they managed to reveal a lot in those busy ffff parts - at least it seemed so. BUT - HD 600 are, I'd say: just right. They really seem a bit like actual active studio monitors. All that's needed to be heard is there, but in just the right amount. Interestingly - sure they are a bit quiet from an iPhone ( with Apple dongle), but iPad and MacBook deliver enough power not to have to max out the volume.
