After Raleigh's long retirement, he has finally arrived back at PPDC but a different and last Shatterdome of the world. After meeting two scientists in the elevator from the Research division, The Marshall introduces him to the remaining functional Jaegers and the teams' statistics. Raleigh still had his knowledge about the Jaeger program, he didn't lose everything just yet. Since he's an experienced pilot.
The Marshall first introduce the first Jaeger teams and each of their Jaegers. Which is Crimson Typhoon. Crimson is constructed with full titanium core alloys and fifty diesel engine per muscle strand. Crimson Typhoon's three arms allow for great mobility and range in combat; the fighting style of the Wei Tang triplets grant Crimson the grace of a practiced martial artist. Broad shouldered, Crimson Typhoon uses its shoulders to defend against punches and shield itself, allowing it to strike back immediately, rolling with the left shoulder.
It also features three rear jets which allows for an increase in forward movement for a limited amount of time. They can be used to aid in the the Jaeger's ability to leap into the air, often decreasing the distance between her and a kaiju to land a melee attack. These rear jets can ignite independently of each other increasing the speed of its melee strikes, as the torso twists during the slashing movement of the Jaeger's arms. They can be seen during Crimson Typhoon's signature attack, "Thundercloud Formation".
This Jaeger is driven by a specialty of three pilots instead of the ideal two pilots. Two pilots mend the Jaeger on the front of their conn-pod(Cockpit) while the other third pilot acts as a gunner. Then we meet a tank. A Russian team and their heavy, the slowest Jaeger to walk on Earth to battle these giant monsters for six years. A brutal war-machine that doesn't tolerate to make any mistakes and they're a bunch of hardcore team. Which can get anything in anyway possible.
Cherno is one of the heaviest and best armored Jaegers, albeit one of the slowest. Cherno Alpha is built to endure long tours of duty and sustain as much damage from Kaiju attacks as it is able to return in kind. Oppositely, its lack of speed makes it one of the slowest Jaegers of any Mark series and vulnerable to attack from quicker enemies. Cherno's heavily armored arms are equipped with a weapon codenamed "Roll of Nickels"; cylinders that Cherno can grip and increase the power of its punches. When using "Roll of Nickels", the environment is said to shake from each blow it lands against a Kaiju.
Pr-cherno-pneumatic-fists. Cherno's Tesla fists. Its arms also appear to be spring loaded, although can be supplemented by hydraulics for increased impact potential. Similarly, Cherno's Z14 Fists are powered by Tesla cells, allowing for a formation of simultaneous electric arc impulse, with force up to 415kv into a Kaiju, usually to the effect of smashing both fists to induce maximum current at the sides of a Kaiju's head, usually stunning or incapacitating most targets.
Before battle, Cherno taunts its enemies by smashing its fists together multiple times. Whenever this happens, interconnected panels on the Jaeger's torso fluctuate. Cherno Alpha's Conn-Pod, also known as the Atmoscan, is located at the heart of the Jaeger; making it one of the most secure cockpit environments built for a Jaeger.
However, it lacks an escape mechanism; Russian Rangers fight to win against the Kaiju or die trying. Cherno's foot spikes provide additional support and balance to the mechanism. They can be located in one point during patrol/guarding. Cherno's MGS112 Recharging Energy Cell, a nuclear reactor, holds unprecedented energy reserves and incendiary fuel, while acting as a strong decoy for a Kaiju seeking the Jaeger's head. And to be continued...
The part where they introduced Striker Eureka will be next, and with the Australians as well. Other than that, I hope you enjoy this scene as I think you will. Fun fact: crimson typhoon was actually supposed to be piloted by quadruplet girls. Instead of three arms, the Jeagar would have four with each sister controlling one arm each. The only reason this didn't happen is bc del Toro couldn't find any quadruplets in china to fill his desired role. In hindsight it was a bit of a stretch but you have to admire the guy for actually thinking of this.

True, but striker’s success is more tied to it being the most advanced Jaeger ever built. Keep in mind that Hercules Hansen was a Jaeger pilot before he piloted Striker. I don’t know which one he did, all I know is that it happened (there’s a scene just after this video ends that shows that Raleigh and Herc had fought side by side before.

Cherno alpha has just one of the most intimidating persona of them all. Don't know why... just does.

after Uprising's "meh" and the recent burst of Kaiju films. I just couldn't help but want to rewrite this after 3 years.
Cherno's design is an irresistible classic. A jeager built like a tank, even among his fellow metal giants. He's built for power, with the intent to take as much as he can give it. Most of his heavily armored bulk lies from the waist up, topped with that hulking reactor tower of a head. Not only is it intimidating to kaiju from that alone, it also makes Cherno appear taller than his 280ft height in certain circumstances. This also displays his design was not without thought, because the reactor acts as an incredibly durable decoy for the conn-pod in the torso, elevating light and all.
The music and cinematography convey's Cherno Alpha's immense might further, almost entirely viewed at an upwards angle with building choir music to boot. The fact that he's one of the oldest jeagers ices the cake as well, stated with pride by Stacker of his veterancy.
You could tell from the first time you see him that he's a steady, powerful weapon. Call him sluggish, call him dated... but you can't call him weak. There's a good reason the Precursors made two kaiju specifically for Cherno, any other without superior strength, weaponry or size would've been just another kill count to the paint job.

@Luc Germain It makes sense but still, making them lose the first time we ever see em doesn't help. Pacific Rim really needs a prequel. The Jaegers have so much detail to them but we only see a little.

Gipsy Danger: Versatile fighter, reliable and adaptive
Typical combat archetypes found in most forms of fiction, but perfectly exemplified in these Jaegers. Pacific Rim had its flaws, but it really shone as well. Great movie

Crimson Typhoon and Cherno Alpha got worf'ed. They were of the legendary 4 last surviving Jaegers yet both died without contributing much to the Hong Kong battle.
The Mako and Raleigh romance was strange, felt like they weren't really sure about it so went half way. Either don't do it or make it full blown.
Pentecost's speech was cringe, IMO. "We're cancelling the apocalypse" felt kinda flat in a movie that had absolute bangers like "But when you're in a Jaeger, suddenly you can fight the hurricane. You can win."
As you watch you can just feel a certain vibe from every Jäger like Cherno you get the vibe of brute strength and immense raw power but with Crimson you get the vibe of elegant lethality and striker the vibe you is that of a brawler agile but deadly

This is why I can't watch Uprising with getting pissed off. In the first movie you get this introduction to all the jaegers and you know EXACTLY the (almost) personality of each jaeger is. They tell you up front the cool stuff like the triple arm technique and you spend the next bit of the movie anticipating seeing that 3 arm fighter. The uprising jaegers had zero individuality until the fight midway through the movie. There's zero anticipation to see the jaegers!

I love the admiration Pentecost has for Cherno Alpha. You can tell the mark 1 jaegers have a special place in his heart. He was a mark 1 pilot himself after all.
If there was a prequel, maybe he was with them at boot camp and knew a lot about their past. My theory is they placed on bot tier of their class and extremely hard to perform a drift due to their past and like Mako they also heavily traumatized by Kaiju destroyed everything they had. And another factor was first gen like trial-and-error of humanity, so those basically controlled the Guinea Pig Jeager, constant dealing with new problems while facing deadly Kaijus and forced to solved it to survive.
That's why he gave them so much respects.
Cherno Alpha's design is simple but it resembles the russian heavy tanks.

It's such a throwaway line, but I like it when Pentecost says "fifty diesel engines per muscle strand." Del Toro could've just made up a power source for the jaegers, but this line paints a much better picture of how strong these things are, and what it takes to power them.
the diesel engines aren't the power source. They run on nuclear reactors.

@@user-vy9mk7um1bvery late response but what I interpreted about the diesel engines per muscle strand was that the more engines the Jaeger had, the faster it could move. More engines pumping means quicker movement but possibly less defensive capabilities. It's probably why Cherno Alpha was so bulky. Less engines per strand so it was slower but to compensate it had a thicker hull.

The EMP one came after the one in Australia was defeated by the same robot it countered with the EMP and the one with the tail was made after another one was killed by the robot with the 3 arms.
The Shatterdome Is Of Those Few Places That I Want To Visit As A Mecha Enjoyer.
Ironically, Gipsy Danger (the main Jaeger) is my least favorite. Not because it's bad, but because Crimson Typhoon, Cherno Alpha, and Striker Eureka are just way cooler.

I love them all, each having unique characteristics and designs. Cherno looks and feels intimidating af, Crimson looks and feels agile, Striker looks very modern much like a high-tech jet fighter, Gypsy has that classic 80's mecha vibe.
I disagree, I actually find Gipsy Danger much cooler than the others, because its design and weaponry has a good mix of modern high-tech and rustic looks. She has these really cool and updated weapons and features, but at the same time she also has that more rustic 90s look. Cherno just looks ugly and bulky, and while Crimson Typhoon & Striker Eureka have cool designs, but I'm turned off by the fact that they're digital it makes them vulnerable to EMP blasts. That's another reason why I love Gipsy the most, because she is an analog Jaeger so it makes her immune to EMP blasts. And besides, if the other 3 Jaegers were really "much cooler" than Gipsy, then why were they all destroyed before Gipsy? Especially Cherno and Crimson were destroyed so easily during the HK coastal siege battle. I love the fact that in the movie Gipsy proved that just because other Jaegers had more high-tech weapons and were more technologically advanced than Gipsy, it does not necessarily make them "better" Jaegers than Gipsy. Both Cherno and Crimson were destroyed fairly early in the movie, and even though Striker was much faster and technologically advanced, Gipsy still proved to be the most effective and efficient Jaeger out of them all.

Well at least someone does this for Crimson. Sick and tired of people fanboy and girling about Cherno. Like, Cherno is the slowest out of all of them and all they do in combat is head lock and punches. It's awesome, I know but...is that it? I mean, with Crimson, he can not only punch and kick and so on, but he have three arms, spinning blades, a rotatable waist. Gypsy has a giant sword, chest nuclear beam like Iron Man, plasma cannons. Striker's got speed and agility, twin sting blades and six-barreled anti-kaiju missile launchers. Cherno only has spring loaded fists and flamethrowers on his shoulders which were never used in the movie for some reason, apparently. Would've been awesome. But no, it was only demonstrated in the game.
I prefer Cherno because it has a classic Russian design: no chrome, blinking lights or frills- just tons of Kaiju ass kicking. Pure meat and potatoes. The pilot's set up in the cockpit was cool too.
I love how this movie showed all the countries uniting and fighting together. Maybe we need an alien threat to unite humanity.

gotta love all the jaegers but the movie did two things wrong, 1. they killed cherno and typhoon way to fast 2. cherno has flamethrowers and typhoon has a plasma cannon on his big arm and we don't get to see either in this movie

A. They couldn't afford to add those extra features.
B. They wanted to show how much stronger and smarter the Kaijus are getting.
The kaijus that got sent against them were made to counter them
Because, Cherno and Crimson have been operating for so LONG and you think the Alien won't even think to make a Kaiju that could counter them? As Newt accidently make a contact with them by drifting and giving them more intel about those operating Jaeger (except Gipsy whos no longer operate until they called Raleigh.)
@@wankhairiel8663 Yes exactly. Also, we see that Chernos reactor burn doesn't work after Otachi hits it with it's tail, it's a similar move to what Gypsy has. But if you look at Strikers HUD when it cuts to them, you can see Chernos vitals? I guess you would say? And you can see what's been damaged.
Cherno's turbines were actually damaged. The hud inside the cockpit displayed the turbines were in red.

One underrated thing I only noticed on a recent rewatch is some of the continuity between Jaeger specifications. Here, Stacker states Crimson (a Mark IV) has 50 engines per muscle strands. Later on, in the "better than new" scene, it's mention Danger, a Mk. III, has 30. It's such a tiny detail, but it shows more thought that people often assume of this movie.
To answer everyone's question as to why everyone is having a massive orgasms bout Cherno, it's because of the amount of masculinity and manliness his very presence exhibits. If u lined up all the jaegars in a room, u would recognize that Cherno would be the big boss of the room. The oldest and most badass. The king. U know that chernos the fucking man when EVERY single scene he is in has his badass Russian music playing. It's awesome when u realize that whenever Cherno gets onscreen the music immediately plays some type of Russian music to announce his presence. Also his simple yet brutal design. Gives off a "I'm bout to beat the shit out of u" vibe

Crimson Typhoon is my favourite. Looks awesome. And it's the least destroyed of them in the end... only looses it's head, but the rest is kinda untouched. If you compare it to Cherno Alpha - wrecked and blown up, Striker Eureka - even more blown up, Gipsy Danger - obliterated.
Crimson Typhoon just needed a few structural touchups and a new conn-pod and it would be ready for action again. That's doable in maybe a couple of months. The issue was that they didn't have a few more months before the Category 5's started showing up, and the entire pilot crew was killed. That's what really killed Crimson.
Cherno Alpha had its superstructure melted and its nuclear reactor detonated. There was nothing but shattered pieces left. Strike Eureka got vapourised by a hydrogen bomb, and Gipsy Danger detonated its nuclear reactor in another dimension entirely.
If you think about it, the only mostly-complete Jaeger left in the world at the end of the movie is Crimson Typhoon. The rest are either obliterated or rusting away in scrapyards.
While Typhoon may be repaired and returned to service, a new problem will be finding three new pilots.
Typhoon was designed with a three pilot crew in mind. Its head also doubled as a long range telescopic, allowing both pilots to see threats from a distance but its cylindrical design limited field of view, hence the third navigator/observer position.
All three candidates will have to be:
Drift compatible
High mental fortitude
Able to fight
Crimson Typhoon :DDD
This movie is ahead of it’s time

In my opinion crimson should've died on the double event as a badass holding 2 kaijus at once for longer than it did, cherno should've survived and die at the rift before or along the commander. Taking on the double event underwater together.
The way both crimson and cherno died are the same time was a bit underwhelming. And they could've cherno the same way they did to striker.

Crimson and Cherno died to essentially just 1 Kaiju, Otachi, because that Kaiju was bioengineered specifically to beat them. While Cherno was technically killed by Leatherback, and Leatherback's strength was designed as a counter to Cherno, in all honesty just Otachi alone would have solo'ed Crimson and Cherno. Leatherback was just there to EMP Striker, and also Crimson if Otachi wasn't able to kill it.
Their deaths set up the adaptiveness of the Precusors, and also of the Gypsy Danger's crew, which used the knowledge of Leatherback's special weapon (EMP) to basically ignore it and punch it to death, and knowledge of Otachi to freeze-smash its killer claw-tail and grab its acid sac before ripping out it.
The design for striker looks so clean
I love how they talked up the other Jagers as bad ass. First engagement they get in, they all get squad wiped in like a minute.
CHERNO ALPHA AND CRIMSON SHOULDVE TAKEN THE WHOLE MOVIE INSTEAD OF GYPSY
I love the fact that in the movie Gipsy proved that just because other Jaegers had more high-tech weapons and were more technologically advanced than Gipsy, it does not necessarily make them "better" Jaegers than Gipsy. Both Cherno and Crimson were destroyed fairly early in the movie, and even though Striker was much faster and technologically advanced, Gipsy still proved to be the most effective and efficient Jaeger out of them all.

Cherno Alpha is a MK1 and had been in service for 6 years....6 freaking years. This bassass mecha outlived many other predecessor Jaegers and still able to keep on fight. It's like they said, "if it ain't broken, don't bother fixing it"
