    Really torn between the S1 and the A1. I have several 4 inch bushcraft blades and am thinking I'd like something bigger to use as a belt knife and bring a mora as my bushcraft knife. Did you find the A1 really big? Have you used the S1 and if so how do they compare?

      Holy reply to a 6 year ago comment.....😁
      Did you ever get the S1 or A1? How did you like it? I have an A1 that I love to this day. The A1 is a strange beast. Some days I find it too large, other days I wish for it to be smaller and lighter. But then again two seconds later I'm glad it isn't...haha 🙃
      I'm a Gemini. I'm forever torn like this with everything in life.
      I do wish the A1 was thinner than it is.
      I always have my pack axe with me so I don't really NEED something like an A1 but I still bring it because it's a workhorse. Have to be careful with any impacts on the handle material though.
      I did the same thing...I pair the A1 with a light scandi knife in my pack. I prefer my modified Hultafors OK4 over my Moras. I mirror polished, zero scandi ground the edge and stropped on a secondary convex micro bevel for edge strength and durability.
      Even without an axe, that's a powerful combo that should get you through most anything.

    Just got my Fallkniven F1d! It's going to be hard to choose between the TOPS B.O.B. and the F1d to EDC! B.O.B is heavier than the F1d, but I really like the B.O.B.'s Kydex sheath+rotating clip and the fero rod + whistle combo. I do like the Scandi varient grind on the B.O.B.. But for overall general purpose, F1d will serve me just as well.

    At 4:31. I have come to the conclusion, that 99% mainly "big" youtube channels, provide really wrong info on knives. He thinks as he said, that he is "Sharpening" his knife, while he doesn't even hone the edge of that knife. At best, he is scratching the side of the beautiful polished blade and dull the edge, of the A1. You can not "Sharpen" a steel, with a so much softer material, like leather is. Can you polish the edge bevel, using the right stropping technique? Yes,you can! Can you maintain a sharp edge, using the proper stropping method, that each different grind has? Yup. Now, either they copy, what ever they see from different videos and since they have, no, real experience, they show ,what they think they know as right, but in reallity, is completely wrong. Or ,they do it on purpose, just to make noobs, buy the gear they sell and in the same time, with all these wrong info, people destroy their knives, instead of maintaining them, which also adds, to "more money" that they make. All this, is not a big problem, because, man, will always have a bigger idea of himself, which means, that all of us, are marketing victims. The real problem is, that people beleive, whatever they see on their screens. That's what enslaved the humans, as we speak. The fake numbers, that mαde α simple virus, to a total world pandemic, was done, through our screens (TV, mobiles, internet etc) That's the really huge problem, that we people "don't see", because we live in the darkness. PS, sharpening is 30% knowledge, that most people don't have and 70% experience, that people should have, if they want, to reach a point, where they can sharpen anything. Don't beleive what you see on your screens, is a good start. God bless you all

    I'm slightly confused so if someone could help me out. The Fallkniven knives mostly come with a convex edge which is supposed to be stronger than a normal edge with a bevel correct? But then why do i hear of these blades chipping all the time, especially since the blade is Vg-10 and laminated? Sorry, have no experience with convex, scandi grinds, or vg-10

    • @TJackSurvival
      @TJackSurvival Před 9 lety

      There is a scale with sharp and brittle on one end and dull and robust on the other. Each steel performs differently on thus scale. Convex is another issue. Because the carbides at rounder at the tip they are more reinforced on the cutting edge than say a Scandinavian grind. Essentially no matter the steel convex will be stronger at keeping the blade edge from rolling or failing. As for chipping that sounds more like blade abuse. Any super sharp blade will chip if it hits rock or whatever because of the characteristics of the scale I talked about. As for these two knives I use them all the time and neither one has chipped or failed. In fact I made a bow drill and battoned and whacked my way through the base board in a video just today with the A1. Zero damage or problems. They are some of the best survival and bushcraft blades available on the market for a reason. Just use them for there intended purpose and they won't fail.

    • @ActionHero29
      @ActionHero29 Před 9 lety +1

    Do yo really think that you "...could just sharpen it on the lather..." sharpen????
    you can strop it just on leather, not sharpen, if you think you can, please try to blunt the edge on a stone like you want to cut it and then try to sharpen it just on leather...
    I love it when people keep talking about something and pretend like they rally know it.
    But if you know that you can't sharpen it just on leather, why say it? i ask this because some people will actually believe that and can find them self in bad situation...

    • @jadenmatthews5943
      @jadenmatthews5943 Před 9 lety +1

      He said sharpen, but obviously what he meant was strop.. So if you pay attention you would have noticed he wasn't "sharpening" but stroping. Like you said it is not possible to actually SHARPEN a knife on leather.

    • @TJackSurvival
      @TJackSurvival Před 9 lety +1

      Really you're complaining because I said sharpen, instead of strop... The black magic has a coarse grit suspended in a type of grease block. When you put that on the leather it makes a super fine sharpening/stropping device. If you haven't messed the blade up severely through mistreatment it does actually make it sharper to strop it by using the technique that I showed here. Personally o think it's very cool to know that you can make your blades sharper and keep them razor sharp on the field by doing this. It's something I've used successfully for years. It's especially useful on knives that are used for skinning. You're not going to take a blunt tool and make it a razor with this technique, which should be obvious without explanation. That's why I mentioned that it's a daily touch up technique. Keep it all in context and then maybe you won't be so easily offended by another persons definition of a technique.

    • @ikarus1415
      @ikarus1415 Před 9 lety

      TJack Yes i complain because you said sharpen instead of strop and i clearly said why, kids also watch this kind of stuff and maybe thy will go to woods carrying only leather belt because "...you could just sharpen it on the lather...", do you think that is wise?
      I know what you thought but that is not what you said, that is the only reason why I'm complaining....
      And one more thing, do you really carry whole block of stropping compound with you? 1/8 of that can last you for days and days...
      You know that every Fallk knife has an micro bevel right?

      ikarus1415 Does stropping make your knife sharper? (rhetorical question). He brought the whole block I'm assuming so that he could properly demonstrate what it is/what it is used for & how to apply it when you get it out of the box. What you see post editing is not the whole story.

      None of the Fallkniven blades shown here have a micro bevel. To the best of my knowledge none of the Falkniven blades have a Micro Bevel at all. They are all Convex edges that are all done by hand. This is why they are such a premium knife.
      The advantage to the convex edge is that it supports the carbides on the cutting Edge by an almost 300-400% advantage over the common V-bevel, and the double V or Micro Bevel. The disadvantage is that it has to be done by hand. Convex edges hold their level of sharpness far longer than a V-bevel and are four times tougher. Which is why so many people are drawn to this type of edge for survival related blades. They are also deceptively sharp. The thick edge spine holds the carbides on the edge to such degree that the knife stays sharper far longer and will still cut long after a conventional V bevel has gone dull. Convex edges are also the easiest to maintain as I showed in the video or to restore as is printed on the side of each Fallkniven box and stone, you cut a thin slice from the fine, flat diamond whetstone. As you hold a firm angle you’ll get - a convex edge, since you are not a machine. If you want a Skandi ground sharpened you would hold it on the one ground angel of the Skandi. If you want to sharpen a Micro Bevel I've found the Lanski sharpener to work best, as it holds the blade firm to the angle. All blades are finished best or touched up daily (sharpened) with something incredibly fine. Like a leather strop/strap that has fine grit black magic on it. The above information I learned from Mike who owns Bark River blades and sent me the Black Magic, and from Peter who owns Fallkniven blades and sent me the above knives. Respectfully Tyler.

      This is like the difference between a Festiva and a Porsche. You get what you pay for. This is defiantly a buy one knife for forever kind of situation.
