    I love these videos highlighting people's amazing work. A lot of the time I feel very overwhelmed when thinking about how I can actually produce a physical body of work from my images, getting caught up in the thinking that it needs to be a very well intensely thought out artistic idea. Seeing these awesome Zine's has inspired me to take a giant step back and just create bodies of work inspired by my everyday life whilst I live overseas. Can't wait to see more!

    Love Frantisek Drtikol and Jan Saudek. Thank Ester Catty Young for sharing works from such great photographers.
    I have a small digital collection of their images. What I like about Frantisek Drtikol is the way he incorporates elements of Art nouveau and Art deco. As for Jan Saudek, well it’s hard to describe. He does as much color photography as black and whites. He’s quite an original. He uses many techniques to express messages that can shock many. He likes oppositions such as dressed vs naked people, old vs young, obese vs thinner people, etc.
    Thanks to all the people who share their work with you, and thus with us on your channel. It’s nice to know that there are many who have the same passions and show their way of sharing it.

      If that were so I would applied myself. That was just spontaneous... Each one of us may have different views about a specific photographer. Timeline is also important in that manner, so I might have favored my PoV for works they did at a specific time.

    Just purchased an Enlarger, that has a lot to do with Your videos! This zine developement reminds me of the culture of letter and artist postcards for example the Fauve, Die Brücke, or the letter circulation of artist and scientists circals, in the last 3 to 400 years, only, with the beautifull difference, that now everyone can paticipate! Of cause here it has more resemblance to a teacher student, (though mostly, very independent selflearning once) relation. But Wouldn't it be interesting to delve a bit into history, I think that could be inspiring.

    As you may remember, I live and work in the visual arts in Newark, NJ. This is the largest City in NJ and a 12 minute train ride from NYC. We put up non profit pop up galleries in vacant or under used spaces including three of the Newark Housing Authority. To satisfy the local Puritans, we have developed what we call the "no nipple" rule for many (too many) public spaces. Work "suitable for viewing by twelve year olds" is the rule of thumb in NJ. The problem is who decides what a twelve year old should be viewing. If I took my 6th grade class to the Met in NYC..well, you see who is frightened by and incapable of appreciating art and it isn't the twelve year olds.
    A few years ago, I was associated with some local "community" arts groups in Bergen Co., NJ Very affluent but not especially sophisticated (money was the only measure) I was frequently frustrated that the "drawing" teachers could show very graphic pencil drawings but as a photographer....no nipples in my work.
    Thanks for your work and for sharing your aesthetic.

      Maybe you missed that memo that's going around. People in some countries down vote to avoid getting the same just watched video as a suggestion from CZcams. Their recommendations never quite worked. Down voting does not mean the video is bad, but CZcams is. I've not down voted any videos though. I not only watch Ted, but also click on "watch later" to take notes when I get back to my desktop computer.

    • @AuthenticSound
      @AuthenticSound Před 7 lety +1

      And it wouldn't help either! In fact, down or upvoting only influences YT's algorithm only a tiny bit. The fact that there IS an interaction weighs more, and from a larger perspective, the thumbs up/down won't affect too much, certainly not the recommended videos on your YT's homepage. That is today done, based on your profile and your actually watch time for a video. In fact, the way YT has been upgraded lately is in fact very good, but of course, remember, there is about 60 years of content uploaded ... every day !

    It woul be interesting to know the process of building this little zines. I'm directly interested in this topic because I've already made 3 zines with a "mainstream" print service (I omit the name of the service), that for a zine with the value of 4 euros, add a shipment of 13 euros, and I'd like to stay in a price range that is "comfortable" for me, but more important for "the audience".
    The spirit behind this thinking is: if someone like my work why did they must pay so much only for shipping costs? If someone knows if there is some good print lab for printing zines, please share with me because I'm really frustrated and I think it's not fair that for a finished product I must pay 3 times the value of the product for shipping costs.
    I'm hope someone could help me with suggestions. Maybe I have to batch print (50 or 100 copies?) and sell them directly?

    • @brunopcan
      @brunopcan Před 7 lety

      Hello, I'm not an expert but I can try to help :) Do you pay 13€ per zine for the publisher to ship them to you or that's the final shipping cost to the buyer?
      In my case I ordered 60 and I make all the packaging and shipping.. it's not that much trouble and saved a lot of money, otherwise the zine would be too expensive for everyone!

    • @Paolo_Pino
      @Paolo_Pino Před 7 lety

      The price is 4€(the price of the printed zine)+13€ shipping (to me in Italy, I don't know in the rest of the world what's the price, because it's managed by the site/service). Add another 20% to the price for earnings... I also considered buying in stock of 50, but then I don't know how to manage the shipping to the rest of the world, and don't know how much it cost.

    • @MikePhumanaut
      @MikePhumanaut Před 7 lety +4

      No one is saying it requires so much talent to do that. The point is people take a collection of photos, documenting their time in a certain place and presenting it to people, the same way famous photographers come out with books. The same way photographers display their work in a gallery. I guess if you find that all useless too that's just how yo see things. You don't have to like it, but it's surprising you can't see why other people wouldn't like it or appreciate the effort.

    • @hardground6421
      @hardground6421 Před 7 lety +4

      Rocket ... I think you're missing the point. It's not masterpieces what we're looking for .... there's tons of them just a click away ... what we enjoy is the true, spontaneous willingness of SHARING that those fellows show when they shoot, choose, print, organize a zine, send them to Ted ... just to share an idea, a moment of their life. And maybe inspire us viewer on our next shots. Respect this attitude, and you'll start to enjoy it as well!
