Girl, I am a Culver prop user my self. I am truly amazed that you don`t get so burned out that you never want to see another stick of wood. It is not just building the prop its self, but all the other stuff that goes along with running a business. Keeping up with the paper work, buying good lumber, the orders, the shipping, just finding the time to go to the bank, and keeping the lights on. Then there is the personal side of being a Mother, Wife, and home maker. What we see in the videos is just a drop in the bucket compared with all the rest of what it takes to make this happen. I salute you girl. There will never be another like you.

Check with Nathan. He has a channel "Out of the Woods Forestry" He custom cuts timber on his Sawmill and has a kiln in which he dries the lumber. Full carpentry shop where he can plane and sand the wood before delivery. He can hook you up with the wood you need.

Would you be able to use a glue-like Total Boat 2 part epoxy? It is used in the wooden boat building industry to create the bond between multiple layers of wood while building up the hull's thickness. I know that Peggy from PFWoodworks uses it to bond layers of wood together before turning a bowl or a vase'. You have let your hair grow out enough that it will soon get stuck in the glue 🙃😉🛩. 😂 after all the Christmas sweets I bet it does look like fudge! Lol the glue I will use is used by one of the biggest prop makers out there so I feel good about it. No reason to reinvent the wheel. I think there is a storm blowing in because the wind just took a chill. But I’m not complaining! Lol

I have been trying for several months to locate the Weldwood product to use in some musical instrument projects I have in the works, with no luck, and assumed it had been discontinued. Thanks for sharing, I think what you're doing is very interesting. 🙂
Have you thought about having a downloadable template of the bolt patterns for half dubs? People seeking one of your lovely props could print and cutout templates to get the right one for their engine and remove the guesswork by quoting the code on the template that fits. If you have business relationships with engine builders, you might ask them for templates for their engine hubs.
Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year Alaina. With the shortage of good wood is it possible to use finger jointed pieces to make the propeller. Where my Father worked they used finger jointed timber to make big beams and other wide shelving. He said it was just as strong or stronger than the original.
The dark red glue which you are proposing to use sounds like resorcinol resin. To be successful this needs very high clamping pressure, otherwise it will come apart. It is not a gap-filling glue. It is very strong but very demanding. Read everything you can about using it before going ahead.
I watched to the end of the video and was just starting to type a question about how you don't clamp them up after gluing... Then at the very end you put them in that huge press :)

Question: do you check balance on your boards then find balanced centers before you cut the blank outline? I had a bunch of wood collected. Hemlock , douglas fir, white and yellow pine, alder, poplar and a little spruce. Red oak white oak..... Little bit of maple and some mahogany. Many years cullin for spec grade. Had often thought about buildin my own prop when I checked prices. For just a homebuilt
You did not say which glue you are switching to but I assume it is a resorcinol glue, since that is certified for aircraft use. There are some formulations with very little smell. But my experience with it is in boatbuilding not propeller assembly.
Sorry to hear about Weldwood. I was afraid of that happening. I will miss it. Can you tell me what the glue is you're going to start using? I guess I won't miss the lumps however.
Just curious why you don't wear gloves while sanding and handling the raw wood. I would be concerned with oil or sweat from my bare hands being left behind before the gluing process. Just my opinion. Great video.
Because I can feel more with my hands than I can see with my eyes. The grain will trick your eyes and little dips in the wood you can’t see at all, you have to feel them.
@@CulverProps As usual, if something works well they cant leave it be, forced change..lol, You might need better equipment to protect you from the harsh fumes of the new glue.
You know you were talking about getting the long boards for big props? Does each board have to be single? Could you like butt joint 2 boards with like box joints and then as long as each joint is over lapped by a continuous section?

I wonder why companies change products that work. Working with foul smelling chemicals is frustrating and can make your time miserable. Everything will suck up the stench of it. Perhaps switch to an epoxy like West system its low odor.

Never heard of a 1/2 VW engine before now. I did see a home-built once with a regular 4-cyl VW in it. What stood out to me is, they run backwards.
