Can the MSI Claw replace ALL my gaming consoles?!

  • @paulAntill used the MSI Claw as his only gaming console for 1 week. This is Intel's debut to gaming handhelds, but is it good enough to replace the ASUS ROG Ally, an Xbox Series X or a Gaming Laptop? Here's everything he likes about this portable gaming setup and the cons you can expect.

This past week has shown me that the Claw has a lot of room for improvement. I have benchmarked the MSI Claw in Red Dead Redemption 2, Batman Arkham Knight, Forza Horizon 5, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The biggest takeaway for me, is that the MSI Claw works best as a handheld, which sure, isn’t a huge surprise, but it also helped me realize how great consoles like the Xbox Series X still are.
As it currently stands, though, the ASUS ROG Ally vs the MSI Claw is the safer bet for most people who want the best bang for your buck portable gaming device with more reliable performance, while the Steam Deck is the way to go if you want to avoid the hassle which is Windows 11 and strictly use this for play, and not productivity.
MSI and Intel have a lot riding on this, and because of that, I’m convinced the Claw is not in its final state yet and still has lots of driver updates and performance improvements on the horizon.
But what do you think about the Claw - is it something you’d pick up? Let me know in the comments.

Releasing after the Ally and Go with less performance and same price, it was doomed to bomb. But hopefully their next iteration is competitive.

Is the MSI Claw worth giving a shot? - also meant to say all handhelds use basically the same AMD chip except the steam deck which has a custom one. Still, is Intel ready to make a splash?

Intel outperforms the Z1 Extreme in all aspects, none to mention Intel keeps updating its GPU drivers for Claw, really looking forward to every-time optimization!

I wish they would stop making these handhelds with 7” screens. Should be close to 8” or above. 7” screens are too small

Software support was a key factor in my decision, and Intel clearly outshines AMD in this area.👍👍👍

Even with the initial Intel woes, the Claw is still so new that there’s a good chance they can squeeze out more performance and stability. Fingers crossed!

$800 is a price point pain issue they need to address. They need to drop it down to $700 if they want it to compete with the Ally or Legion Go and hope to stand a chance. Will MSI get the chance to have this thing receive updates to fix it? I think so but NOT if it doesn’t sell and at $800 it is not selling. I’ve talked to places locally that have them and they can’t get rid of them.

oof man the claw has so many roadblocks. will say the TV experience on the Lenovo Go is also a bit wonky, love that platform but it's not always a one size fit all for these handhelds. they all have benefits, but the Steam Deck will probably prove best for most.

They should offer the claw with 2tb and 32gb of ram. Game installs are just too large now. Last of Us + Cyperpunk+ Red Dead = no space left. I replaced the ssd in my ally but I suspect their are alot of families too scared to open up a unit. The performance is close enough to the ally ppl would go for the bigger storage and pay 699.

I can give you a straight answer. It's a NO! Why?
    1. It's intel.
    2. It uses 2230.
    3. Only offered up to 16GB of ram.
    4. Since its a New GPU. It will take time for games to get optimized. IF the developer decides to update their games to support ARC GPU's.
    5. It's fully dependent on MSI Charger. So if you lost the charger/Forgot to bring the charger/Faulty Charging adapter? Using a 3rd party adapters to charge the unit will not work.
    6. Only has 1 type C usb port.
If I were to get a windows gaming console? I would rather go with ROG ALLY, GPD WIN Mini, Onexplayer or Aya neo! Since all of them are using the latest AMD Ryzen CPU's and Ryzen GPU's with RDNA 2 and RDNA 3! And The GPD Win Mini is being sell here in my country with 32GB LPDDR5 Ram, Ryzen 7840u, Ryzen 780M, 2TB internal storage, has USB type A port and a microsd card reader!

I wish the msi claw used the Intel core i9 cpu instead of the ultra 7 version, 2280 nvme ssd instead of the 2230 nvme ssd. 4tb and 8tb options not 1tb or 2tb handheld devices since 1tb and 2tb are still too small from game libraries from epic games, gog games, steam and even running and downloading a bunch of android apps when using bluestacks on windows 11 as well as emulators and roms too. 32gb and 64gb ddr5 ram user upgradeable options. There should be 2 display options that have 1,000 nits brightness minimum, 1 oled version and 1 mini led display version so there will no longer any burn in issues when using the mini led display version. Even user upgradeable replaceable fans. For example, there would be an option to replace the stock fans with noctua fans or from any fan manufacturers. Maybe a frameworks version of the handheld gaming device similar to the frame works laptops but in a handheld gaming form factor. None of the handheld gaming devices have extended battery cases. For instance, my nintendo switch has an extended battery case that is 10,000 mah battery capacity from the zero lemon manufacturer with 3 slots for storing my switch games and has a built in kickstand. Even have a user replaceable and removable battery with a latch behind the handheld gaming device similar to windows laptops that used to have removable batteries. My old hp laptop from 2008 has a removable battery that is user removable and user replaceable that uses a latch under the laptop to remove the battery to replace the battery when the battery becomes degraded. I have the physical copy of crysis remastered for my nintendo switch and crysis remastered that I got from epic games years when it was on sale. Nowadays, I get my games from epic games for free whenever they give away free games. Crysis remastered is my reference and benchmark in terms of gaming visual fidelity since the pc version has can it run crysis mode. Can it run crysis mode in every graphics settings with ray tracing always enabled with dlss always off, motion blur always off, v sync always off, ray tracing experimental boost always enabled. With games that support unlimited frame rates, I have the games always running with unlimited frame rates with the frame rate cap always off even when the games struggle to run and play. I never use dlss since it upscales the games and I never upscale the games since I use the native resolution every time I game. I don't like the way games look when they are upscaled since they look pixelated with jagged edges and not the being natural that is as real looking as possible with no upscaling done at all. Can it run crysis mode for crysis remastered is my favorite for gpu graphics and bench mark and reference to use because that's how I always play my on pc. I play every game in native resolution that demands every last bit of hardware that's why can it run crysis mode is my go to option every time I play crysis remastered on pc.
