Baldur's Gate 3 - Don't let Lae'zel do THIS one thing

- In Baldur's Gate 3, you will sooner or later reach the Githyanki Creche, where you will have to make a choice that can severely impact either Lae'zel or your own character if you don't do it right.

That's why I love my Guardian so much: "Let me help!" *things explode* He's just like me. 😂
😬
Come back later to let us know if you still love him.....
@@ivirana0 I do. I think he's one of the most interesting characters in the game.
@@ivirana0enough to romance her....
@@Effaly_ have you read the notes on his little table yet? I like my red flags like any other, heck I live for troubled and dramatic love interests BUT he/she/they are on a whole new level...
You can convince Lae'Zel to use the tadpoles, and when she uses one she removes the debufs. A note was added in patch 1.0 that said "You can now cure the zaith'isk debuffs with tadpoles"
I just confirmed this myself. It only takes one to remove all 3, favorable beginnings is really good for her.
Was looking for this, as this is what I did during my playthrough.
If you let Lae’Zel Go first, succeed your throws, and use succeed the illithid throw. You get the awakened mind w/o gaining debuffs on Lae’Zel
ANYONE SEARCHING READ THIS IGNORE THE VIDEO !!!!!!!
@@mastercc4509they are both useful ideas. Wouldn't ignore the video.
why would you gimp Laezel when you can get the buff without damaging her?@@justingovas415
I did this, i got the debuffs on laezel, but i was able to get rid of them. Trouble is i don't remember how. Either a restoration spell or remove curse.
Does this still work? I only got one check and Lae’zel got off. She didn’t have a debuff and I didn’t have a buff
"You're hurting! Let me help."
*Gigantic explosion*
Laezel can actually do this event just fine. You can convince her to hold strong and she uses her prayer to get through the event and doesnt have debuffs. (Side note: I was also githyanki so I had special dialogue options) Allowing her to do this helps convince her Vlaakith is no ally. She stays blind to it at first but later revelations go much smoother.
I am pretty sure this is also the route i went through as a half-elf companion of hers, i just care about bae zel too much to let her suffer :(
Nevermind, i actually just checked it and she only has the intelligence debuff, so i guess the debuffs depend on how far you go with it ? Oh well, i don't know every possible option but convincing her that vlaakith is an enemy wasn't too hard for me, even as someone who doesn't have any charisma, this game has so much depth to it.
@@Lunamana you can always use disguise spell to get access to gith dialog options
I let Laezel go first and used my tadpole power to sense her mind and got the prayer option (I am a wood elf) my Lae zel got out without any damage.
For me she only had the -2 intelligence debuff. Shouldn't affect her too much seeing as she is not a caster for me.
Agreed @@zackfair6791.
Int penalty had no impact at all on the game. She's in my party for her killing ability and overall badass attitude - not her smarts!
It's cheating technically but if you're trying to keep a good reputation with Lae'zel while also avoiding the terrible debuffs, there is a way to do it. Let Lae'zel sit in the chair but when the first dialogue option appears, switch to a different party member and move a box or some other object around in the infirmary. The doctor will notice and warn you against stealing, which cancels the previous dialogue. Now, you can have your main character sit in the chair and play out the scene normally but without upsetting Lae'zel. Win-win!
You sir, are a damned treasure. I award you all the points and I celebrate your life.
I gave the middle option, something like "You'd be dead without me. I've earned the right- I'm going first."
She responded something like "You walk the line of confidence and arrogance... and you walk it skillfully. Very well, you will go first. I will go after."
I also had pretty high approval already with her though.
@@JB-xl2jc So no approval hit? Hmm.
@@TheCrimsonRevenger Actually I got positive approval! Lae'zel seems to appreciate people who stand up for themselves as long as they're reliably able to back it up and aren't just full of bluster.
If you stop her when you get the first option she doesnt suffer from debuff.
One of the most hurtful decisions in the game. The fact that most of us didnt know until hours later hurts the most.
Side note, you can get the debuffs removed by casting greater restoration. So shadowheart has you covered by level 9.
did not work for me
doesn't work
Lying for fun, are we?
@@neverknowsbest1717 I was not, no. I checked my saves after the first comment reply saying it didnt work. Definitely worked. Also definitely did not work on my latest/current playthrough. I'll post some screenies for you.
@@thcwub3387 lmao its not that serious
It honestly would’ve been awesome if that device actually worked, allowing you to go through the rest of the game uncorrupted with no brain worm powers for the whole party. No longer dreading the possibility of turning into a squid man would make sleeping a hell of a lot more enjoyable, maybe even boost everyone’s morale and fight better, lol.
I noticed this game takes from Planescape Torment: if you have an option to permanently mutilate your body, always take it. Tav gets buffs from a brand like Nameless One tattoos, losing your eye is bonus exactly like there, and eating tadpoles is like consuming your own organs in PST.
I knew the massive approval burst with letting Lae'zel used the machine was too good to be true xD
Just let her use it then immediately convince her to leave the machine
@@clownworld4655but then you wouldn't get the buff, right?
@@Swifeaf yup. Either you use the machine and pass all the checks to get the buff (which i didn’t know about at the time) or have her use it then immediately bail out for a huge approval boost from her
@@clownworld4655 I see. Well, I imagine there would be plenty of other ways to increase her approval, so I think I know what I'm picking 😈
@@clownworld4655 Easier said than done, its a DC 30 check to convince her to leave. At level 5 with 18 Charisma and expertise in Persuasion and I still need a natural 20 to pass that one.
In my current playthrough of just an OC Gith'Yanki and Lae'Zel alone on the journey with no other companions, this section was very different narratively. I also learned that if you go into turn based combat and kill/knock out the doctor before she escapes the room, the rest of the fortress will not be alerted to you and not be hostile, letting you go to the Inquisitor and have a 2 on 1 chat with Vlaakith as a loyal follower.
The rest of the crèche doesn't get alerted anyway. Only the infirmary outside the zaith'isk chamber turns hostile...
When I went to the cresh, I went room by room and murdered everyone. Didn't even bother talking to anyone. Murder all the way.
@@Hirotoro4692 When I got out I told the doctor the tadpole died, but failed the roll. She locked the door & came back with guards -saying my deception is proof I'm falling sway to the Ghaik. When I suceeded that check, she just let me leave fine. I did still have one more fight between that & the inquisitor, though.
A couple small corrections:
1) The Creche is still in Act 1, not 2. Act 2 begins with your arrival in the Shadowcursed Lands.*
2) It's not "the one and only Zai'thisk" - it's heavily implied that there are many, possibly even one in every Creche.
*Edit: It seems a lot of people get confused by the "You're about to progress your adventure...." warning when you go to enter the Mountain Pass. That's a trigger point that can cause the druid grove plot to advance, but it is NOT the act-change. if each of those warnings meant a change in acts, the game would have 4 acts, and 2 would be JUST the Mountain Pass (and entirely skippable).
Larian themselves made it clear when the acts change, because there's an achievement for each - and the "Enter Act 2" achievement pops when you enter the Shadow-cursed Lands.
No it's in act 2 the instant you pass the mountain pass in game you trigger act 2 and their is only one Zai'thisk in the game because you only visit one Creche
@@UNDEADaaron nope, as soon as you enter the shadowlands that is act 2
@@UNDEADaaronact 1 still yup
your comment needs more likes, i was confused when they said act 2. Need people to see that theyre safe from act 2 spoilers
No, when you select to enter the Mountain Pass they tell you to make sure to tie up loose ends because some content act 1 will be gone. That means you are going from one act to the other.
Ahhh that's why Mind Blast is a bonus action on my PC, but not my other party members! I didn't even know I had the awakened buff and that was confusing the heck out of me (but it's sooooo good!) xD
Yeah well Loviatar’s love was also a permanent buff but it went away after I died in the boat fight to Grymforge. Lae’Zel did too. I’ll need to check if she has that.
This one was the most upsetting one in the entire game, especially because i only saw it at the end of act2 when i tried to respec her into a strength monk where all 3 stats are the most important.
Yeah its shit design
I just did this part and did exactly what you did and than your vid came up in recommendations. It seems trusting my instincts paid off ciz I went first and succeeded in all my rolls, but didn't know about the buff bonus so thanks.
I took a long rest without realizing Lae’zel had left the party to approach and talk to the Githyanki group by herself. When we left camp she was dead at their feet. Sneaking my character said in a whisper “killed by her own people”. Looking forward to the second play through where she stays alive LOL.
What did she say when you resurrected her?
In that way you cant resurrect her. Spell doesnt work :(
@@Scrydragon she’s dead dead. Can’t resurrect her.

the awakened buff is actually pretty good if you wish to use the powers.
I’m pretty sure if you keep doing that you’ll turn into a mindflayer boss. Good luck tho
@@guywithdreadsI got all of the powers, and didn’t turn into a mind flayer.
They hint at bad consequences but in my experience rarely follow through on the subtle ones. See also the Thayan book.
@@GZilla311 aww dammit I was saving that for a playthrough but I guess I’m just barely disappointed at hearing that

Being able to fly on demand is quite overpowered
@@Vormenttrue. I fly everywhere and it does feel op
If you can convince Lae'zel to make use of illithid powers, giving her a parasite power also cancels the debuffs.
it's a special perk from the parasite? the debuffs are still here
I’m not ready for a parasite play through yet
I’ve been avoiding using illithid wisdom in dialogue checks. Even the 1st one. I just left shadowheart onThe nautiloid
I did, but failed a saving throw and her INT went down. I just re-specc'ed her into a monk and pumped her WIS and STR up and gave her the 18 Dex gloves. She now fights WAY better
Nice plan B.
I build her battlemaster/berzerker with tavern brawler and great weapon fighter. With the throw ring.
She basically jump everywhere on the battlefield and can throw all the magic weapon i cant use because of my group composition: lance, spear and axes.
Having her throw a great axe to a goblin is higly satisfactory.
Another plan B save game till you get the saving throws right
@@geralddavis5628 Save scumming is lame. You moght want to do it in your first run. But i still prefer to roll with what happens. A lot more fun. Otherwise whats the point of even rolling??
@@celuiquipeut6527 um all games have save points in order to restart with better gear, choices and equipment. why would anyone want negative stats or end the game early on bad choices? If you prefer to play it out, by all means, that is your choice but saves are there for a reason
Well, I will have to do this for my Embrace the Power Durge run. But being a Pally this run, the PC has the front line covered. I actually threw Lae'zal and Karlach a couple levels of rogue so they could deal with traps and locks, since I may have disposed of someone early in Act1.
My PC is also a pally. Funfact warl9ck pact of the blade give you CHA stat BONUS. Meaning it count your STR and ADD your CHA. I stead of using the CHA like in the table top. So i am doing a Pal/warlock.
Astarion is thief/ranger.
Laezel is battlemaster
Shadowheart is life cleric/spore druid for that necromancer/dark side cleric roleplay.
So far i am having a blast!
I made my Karlach a 3eldricht knight/3 berzerker/3 rogue, i get to throw with the bonus action...its pretty buated. And fun.
I made her lile a Thor...but with Fire instead. Throwing that fire handaxe for now. With the ring and tavern brawler. Its amazing! Gave her medium armor and a shield.
I wasnt expecting me to do that...
You don't need levels in rogue to dispose of traps, you just need decent DEX and the gloves of thievery you can buy from the zhentarim. That's all.
What would any sane human being play the same game all over again? Weird.
@@ejkalegal3145 Because its fun to see what a different character, with sifferent answers would be. Thats the whole point of these games.
If Lae'zel does get the debuffs, there are three parasite samples in the room. Feed them all to Lae'zel and it cures her stats right up in addition to giving her the listed powers.
What if she refuses?
@@Fuzz82 I didn't have any trouble talking her into it, so I don't know.

Apparently it was part of a patch to the game
Wow I was literally saying to myself “why is lae’zel so bad now” nice vid man, never would have caught that
That debuff seems pretty harsh. It should be until long rest.
LoL, thank you , what an strange incidence I just passed this point in the game - just a few minutes later - and I did not even realize this. Thank you that you saved my gameplay because without you I would not know - and now I am able to go back to my safe of just a few minutes earlier.
Man it sometimes saddens me how much I've missed in Baldurs Gate 3 so far but then I see videos like this and am happy I made the right choice without even realizing it, at the time I was here, I saved beforehand but chose the path that would allow me to go first, not just because I wanted to "Impress" her in the game, but also because I figured that this "Purification" is vague to the actual function of the machine, I threw myself in the chair because I knew that I wasn't going to die just like that, I wasn't sure if my dream visitor was going to protect Lae'Zel so Instead, knowing she would most likely try and protect me, I put myself as the "Test Subject", I had this same kind of Success with Shadowhearts Shar Trials and I'm super glad I can have genuine "rare" moments in games for myself, even when it feels like I'm so average I'm actually below average.
You knew you weren't going to die "just like that"? My guy, this game will kill your main character without hesitation.
@@marcusweathers3070 Wrong. You can easily get your characters to the end without death. Just gotta play smart.
@@hailothgaming Not what I was saying, but that's nice. I agree.
@@hailothgamingit's more the "your character doesn't get 100% plot armor" there are still bad end choices.
@@rabbitknight87 I know.
Thanks, I couldn't figure out the best way for this to play out.
I realized several hours into the game that I had crippled lae'zel. Sice the dc's were 30 (practically impossible) I thought the game intended me to fail and continue. They never notify the player the permanent damage you're making and they don't let you heal lae'zel with a high level spell ehich kinda breaks table top rules.
Same thing happened to me, I'm in act3 and just noticed now. I was angry for about 30 seconds, then I realized that all of my characters are insanely overpowered right now and I haven't even come close to actually losing a fight in around the last 30 hours so it doesn't matter much.
yeah I noticed after completing the whole area, she had all -2 to 3 stats lol But I just used for this area so it doesn't matter and replaced her back with Karlach again. Think if you roll a nat 20 you can get it done even if you don't have 30 points the normal way. So a lot of reloading lol
@@Kuroganemk2 exactrly what we did. used that useless rude idiot to get Awakened for ourselves and swapped her back for big hot momma. That debuff will teach her humility
Convice her to use a tadpole, you can even keep trying until you convice her > stats restored@@Kuroganemk2
No, I passed all the checks and still got the debuffs on her.
Damn, I wish I would've known about the buff from going in yourself first. I just entered Act III so my last save from the creche was a longggg time ago
This will come in handy on my Dark Urge/Tadpole playthrough.
It also gives you a heal power buff, that when someone is taken to zero, they are instead healed rather than downed. I had that power after doing this, and I have yet to use a tadpole to unlock the skill tree.
Thats from the mind flayer in the under dark, if u drank his potion you gain that.
According to wiki, it's from "Succeed on 3 Illithid Wisdom Skill Checks, then rest until you receive a dream cutscene." So I guess depending on when you do your illithid wisdom checks, depends on when you get the power for survival instinct.@@AlmostMeantToBe
That’s the power omellum gives you bro.
im not completely sure but Lae'zel might attack you if you demand to go first if your approval is not high enough. And you can still get the awakened passive even if she goes first but at the cost of permanent debuffs for Lae'zel.
she leaves if you rep was not already almost maxed and decide to not let her do it
If you don't care about the awakened. As a gith you can let her go 1st and the special dialogue makes her approve each time and gets no debuf, or I think no debuf, would have to go back and check
I let lae'zel sit in the chair first, and ultimately helped break her out from the outside. My PC got the bonus action Awakened feature, but I don't know if lae'zel got any debuffs. I'll have to check when I get home.
Also, don't piss off Vlaa'kith or she might end you!
I am soon moving to do just this quest so am glad i checked this ty
Well im looking forward to getting some cool new bonus actions on my next play through
Thanks for the warning. I have not yet reached that point in the game but knowing how to avoid those permanent debuffs is well worth the relatively tiny spoiler.
In my playthrough, I was surprised because she supported me to go first. She talked to me in a soft voice and she was very nice about it . I think i can't play without Lae'zel now
probably you have a better relationship with her :D
Hey Mr Hulthen I’m loving this game and I’m curious will you be covering the other big game to come out in sept mk1 or ya know anything that’s not midfield??
Good work dude, I just watched 3 creche walkthroughs and NOT one of them touched this aspect.
Excellent info thanks. Just arrived at the creche, my lucky day lol
You can also remove the debuff by eating a tadpole. 2 tadpoles completely removes the debuffs.
You can use Tadpoles to get rid of the debuffs. You need three to get rid of all 3 debuffs and you can steal the three that are in that same room the machine is in.
Went back and looked and yep My Lae'zel has a reduced intelligence debuff. This doesn't make a ton of difference as I didn't have her as an eldritch knight build but it is interesting.
I just couldnt find the chair and just convinced lazeal to ignore it.
I literally just finished this quest but I did it for the story, cuz I don’t really travel with Lae’zel very much
That sucks. Shes supper awesome. And the debuff really don't hurt her that much.
Same thing I can’t stand her attitude she get replaced by karlach
@@shallchairsitfallenAYYYY same, Karlach is a way better companion. Laezel annoyed the ever living shit outta me, so I ended up killing her super early and haven't revived her. She's just laying dead in my camp lol.
Great explanation😊
Thanks man, I really appreciate it
I got lost in the dungeon and ended up at the end with the Inquisitor trying to kill me and me having to fight my way through everything only to find out I missed the infirmary, switched Lae'zel out for Astarion and sat in the chair, succeeded on all the saving throws and broke the thing while my tadpole evolved or some shit.
Ohh, I never realized this, haha. She is still a killing machine, but I will check if she have this debuffs because I failed all the atempts to take her away from the thing.
Wow, I had no idea about the weakened Lae'zel. Thanks for the info!
Brother, i just saw your numbers of subscriibers, congrats on the influx of ppl who realize that you are smart, fun, make interesting observations (with ME dives in mind, oh those are still gold brother) and ...i'm going out on a limb here, but you remind me of one off my best friends from what i can tell from your videos.
Oh and also, you got charisma, good guy charisma.
Take care brother,
Solo - Sweden
well I'm stuck with her debuffs I guess, but my 2nd playthrough I was planning a 'semi-evil want power guy' and I will definely grab this buff
note:
I actually sent in Lae'zel alone, with my character being detached. The whole thing went by fast, and now that I check she has all 3 of these
However. the tooltip says much more than shown. All 3 of them have an extra sentence:
"The Githianki device failed to to harm your illithid parasite - perhaps consuming more would mend your broken mind"
in that one, I did convince her to be open to upgrading the illithid powers, but haven't done so yet. Guess it ain't permament if one plays it right
I’m surprised I had to scroll down so low for this. I’m guessing people don’t read the debuff’s tooltips?
Omg ty!!! Ty! Just arrived. And of ourse my githraki friend was frying her brain first... not no more.
crazy that if you go through the underdark you miss this completely. This game is huge.
Thanks for this tip Mr H!
nice to know that! I am playing as Laezel atm, havent done the quest yet
Oh, and Thanks for the info!😮
I let her use it but got a nat 20 on the first persuasion so she doesn't have any weaknesses
You can go into the Zhath'isk first and Lae'zel will approve. At least she did with me, she said something along the lines of "I respect you, you can go first". Best of both worlds
After I saw that I couldn't succeed on Lae'zel's rolls (she lost all three and lost 2 points to 3 differnt ability scores), I loaded the previous save, went to camp, removed her from the group, and went back in to do it myself. Afterwards, I put her back in the group so she could be there for the dialogues with the inquisitor and Vlaa'kith.
didn't realize the weakend debuff and just went with it. however, the fact that the mashine almost killed her, gave me a great leverage to tell her, that her god actually sucks and only wants to consume her soul. so not all bad. also -1 At and dmg is not the end of the world. the mental strats don't do that much for her anyway
I just semd her back to the camp. Do the chair myself, then when the healer runs off and locks the door. Just go back to camp and invite her again. No loss of rep that I saw.
Wow. I had no idea about this. The awakened buff is very handy to know. o: Thanks for sharing.
Wow I never noticed this, had Laezel crippled throughout all of act 2 lol, was really hoping the Zaethisk would work
yo bro thaaank yoou i was trying like hell to avoid getting locked in the infirmary cause im a level 4 and got no thieves tools or lockpick
I do believe the new patch drop added a way to remove the debuffs so not really an issue.
Ah Laezel, source of my bruises. Shes my favorite companion and she LOVES my vengeance pally.
Thanks for sharing that with us :)
Yeah lol I failed all the checks and didn't notice all the -2 she received only after I was done with the entire area xD
I had really good luck, and with first throw I got critical success.
Shadowheart dissaprooves
I didnt find her in my first official playthrough until she was met up with the dragon dude
should I consume the parasites or keep away from them ??? I don't know what to do with that ... should I cure myself or keep eating them?
The debuffs on Lae'zel say they might go away if you let her absorb a tadpole - and they do.
Thank you for this video. I'm glad I got that buff. There's only one chance to get it per playthrough it seems.
Apparently if you or Laez got some debuffs you can cure them consuming a tadpole/unlocking a new illithid skill.
Proof that ability improvement feat is a noob trap, I never noticed it until act 3 when she’s rocking in legendary githyanki gear😂
Good to know!
I didn't notice the debuff until a few hours later, had to replay a nights worth of gaming. I just got out of the chair, didn't know you could get a buff. Doesn't matter anyway for this character, I don't eat the worms.
if u check them all tho the saves and also the save for the unknow power even illithd thingie u get some extra power out of the event for me this was only postive hahahaha
Dude I don't even let her out of the cage back at the beach! lol
The mountain pass is technically part of Act 1 as well, just FYI.
She wouldn't say please when I found her in that cage so I just left her. When we got to the flatfaces near the Mountain Pass she ran in, and fumbled the conversation and started the fight already dead.
My lae zel lost wisdom and intelligence but i stole the powers.
Thanks.
For Laezel if you say " stand back. I'm going first" followed by "You would still be hunting for this place without my guidance. I will be cured first" She approves of this and is impressed. (dont know if this is approval dependant) my approval going in with her was Very High.
Dumb fun thing that will be patched. When the doctor books it and locks the danger door, it isn't a warp restricted area. You can warp to githyanki creche rune circle and speak to the kith'rak nonhostilely.
Like WOW this game is SOOOoo good for things like this. Never would have thought about trying this.
I managed to get her out of the machine before it exploded, I hadn't realised it had permanently wounded her. -2 to Intelligence it seems. Workable.
If you let Lae'Zel enter the Zai'thisk and convince her to remain in the chair throughout, you will also get the Awakened perk. So far I have only encountered one other spot in Act 1 that will give you another buff to the Parasite, granting an Illithid power....even though I have not yet unlocked the powers tab.
use your ilithid powers in dialogue 3 times total then take a long rest
Yeah legit let her stay for like most the dialogue I dont see why id metagame and ruining her beliefs. With our character not knowing it would explode, i have to assume my tadpol is bad so why would i listen lol. Rp game gotta rp.
I already got the option to use the other tadpoles long before I even finished the goblin camp. After about the 8th time just dominating the gonlin minds the dialofue switched to something else entirely, the tadpole itseld hinting that it would change 'soon', which is the long rest the 'guardian' granted me the ability to absorbb them. I have yet to use any of the ones I found, and I have...12? 13? or thereabouts just sitting in jars right now.@@p1ngerss
@CEDROU95 There is a check you can succeed that your character finds out the chair is designed to drain the consciousness of the "patient" and then kill them. It was never meant to heal, that was a lie fed to the githyanki.
@@p1ngerssI’ve been avoiding using illithid wisdom checks In dialogue.
And here I was thinking you'd be advising against bringing Lae'zel to the Gith-patrol fight. I was stupid enough to do this not once, but twice ... and it never ended well for my party... :D
"Dont let your character do this in this choice-driven game."
Lae‘Zel makes a great eldritch knight, so let her stay in the zaithisk to farm approval, make her eat a tadpole, itcremoves the debuffs, then use the powers that she unlocks
I went through and let her do the entire process and she didn’t get problems
Great video!
Thank you!
nice, about to go to the crèch, wouldn't let my dear lae'zel get any mud on her hand
Damnit now i have to start the game over
I could not get through this conversation without it initiating a fight. So, I went the Underdark path. But I am attempting to do the trick to save Minthara and the Teiflings. With luck I did it properly and will not have to reload the save I made before I did the attack on the goblins.
