It’s probably fair to say that the SsangYong Korando isn’t exactly a household name when it comes to the crossover segment in the same way that the Nissan Qashqai or Kia Sportage might be.
But given that it undercuts the vast majority of its more recognisable rivals by around £2,000, it definitely has to be worth a look, right?
We took delivery of the Korando for a week-long test drive to see if there’s more to SsangYong’s budget crossover SUV than just a low price tag.
Constantly updated, Car Keys provides first-hand video reviews, as well as all of the latest car news.
Our experienced journalists are passionate about the auto industry, and strive to provide you with all the information you could possibly need before you decide to purchase a new car.
All reviews are available at www.carkeys.co.uk/, but did you know that reviews are just one element of what we do? Our website can also help you find the right car, at a price you can be sure is fair by comparing it against prices paid by other consumers and our own market data. We’ll give you the low down regarding the overall cost of owning specific cars whether you are looking to buy outright, finance or lease a new car.

I've had 5 Ssangyongs now and loved every single one of them. I currently own a Rexton W and Actyon (Korando) Sports ute, both of which are clocking up miles very quickly (30,000 km per year each) and they faultlessly reliable and very comfortable to drive on the 80km round trip to work over country roads which can range from normal bitumen to nothing more than a grassy track depending on which way takes my fancy.

all the reviews on the Korando seem really critical, had my Korando for about 5 months and I love it, engine is a bit loud if you want to sit at 4k rpm but as long as you keep it down between 1-2k you can barely hear it, if you want a quiet car go electric, there is more than enough space inside, interior is of a good finish, no rolls Royce but I'd say it easily matches the sportage if not a little better. decent mpg if drove right, highest I've had is 75 average on a long motorway run. nippy round town, overall I think it's a great car for most normal people that don't expect a SUV to perform like a Ferrari and have the finish of a rolls Royce for less than 20k

How’s it held up over time? I’m thinking about buying a used one. Any major issues?

THIS GUY TALKS SHIT, THE KORANDO IS A GREAT CAR... GOES LIKE FUCK ON THE MOTORWAY, SUPERB OFF ROAD, NEARLY FIFTY MPG TO THE GALLON, AND QUITE AS A MOUSE INSIDE, AS WELL AS IT HAS LOADS OF ROOM... HAD MINE 1 1/2 YEARS AND ALL IS PERFECT.... MY FRIEND HAS A KIA SPORTAGE, BUT ONE DRIVE IN MY THE KORANDO BEAST HE SOON SWAPPED OVER AND BOUGHT ONE... OWN ONE FOR A YEAR OR MORE BEFORE YOU DO A REVIEW....

Sounds a completely different car to the one I drove. A nice little motor. The handbrake is in an awkward position though. Nice and uncluttered dash. Easy to find everything while driving.

As the owner of a Korando, I can tell you that the steering wheel is hard and grainy but a pensioner's hands would be soft and smooth so your "joke" is not only rude but wrong. I have now owned the car for three years without any issues. Not the most fuel efficient car but I can live with that. Quite a few on our roads now so the public seems to have caught on to this cheaper but quality (and more powerful) alternative to the Japanese models.

@@shanx7706 No mechanical issues at all in five years but I have driven it less than 30,000 kms so not sure how it holds up over higher mileages...

They are great until you need to buy spare parts. I had to spend 455 British pounds for a radiator after 20000 miles. This i did not include fitting price.

The only thing i dont like about this car is it's brand name. You'd think they would change the brand name to something people could easily pronounce without it sounding stupid since it's being sold all over the world.
