The way Thom’s own backing vocals harmonize is astounding. His voice is one of the instruments in the arrangement.

The little row boat is a direct reference to ancient Egyptian religion. I've always found this song so comforting: there was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt. If only we could face death with such peace of mind.
Me too. I’m instantly transported to the steps of an Egyptian pyramid and it puts me in a trance. This might sound weird but I’m always at the foot stones of an actual pyramid in my minds eye. Going up a step as the piano plays an ascending chord and then backwards down a step or two when the piano descends.
I didn’t try to imagine this but it just happens and I can’t stop it.
Radiohead have an amazing ability to reflect the atmosphere of a particular songs subject. They’re masters of this. Subterranean Homesick Alien is another track that does this brilliantly!
If you played these songs to people who’d never heard them without the voice of Tom singing the lyrics, and then asked those people what the music made them think of, I’d put money on those people all saying Egypt/Pyramids and Aliens!

I love the music of Radiohead. I think I am comfortable enough to assign this track as the Radiohead song that I find is the most... emotionally provocative.

Why did you stop playing the same song you listened to quietly in the background during your breakdown for the latter part of the video? I’d honestly rather have it be silent during the back half just because the music you have there now is a little distracting when you’re talking.
What you hear as ‘off’ is the offbeat syncopation of the drums and piano. It’s what makes a lot of people think this song has two time signatures when it’s in 4/4.

I feel like Radiohead is way ahead of it's time, musically speaking, and we don't really appreciate them to the full extent now - nor can we. I suspect in the future - 100+ years from now - their music will become very, very famous and beloved way more than they're appreciated now.

You've way overanalized the lyrics. Especially since we're then told at the end that Thom wrote them in 5 minutes.

Vin, "observer," "measurement" and "consciousness" are not the same concept. You're equivocating. As an atheist, I'm open to the argument for post-death existence of some sort (albeit based on Heidegger's ontology leaving an opening for a certain interpretation of death--however, in that interpretation its doubtful there's an intact ego at all) as well as panpsychism. But these are just hypotheses. I'm "spiritual" in that I have affinity for Buddhism albeit I consider myself primarily secular. Also Sori, the reason NDEs sound like DMT trips is because the brain releases neurotransmitters that either are literally endogenous DMT, or at least chemically similar to DMT, when nearing death.
