The Orca is a MASSIVELY overlooked character in "Jaws", she has her own theme! I see her every day I sit down at my desk to do some writing, and I spend a good first five minutes or so, sipping my tea and smiling at those barrels. She's every reason I somehow made it into television and became a writer. "Jaws" was the first movie score I ever bought, I have no idea how many it led to. But I will always go back to that Barrel Chase, it's like a gallop on a wild horse, always a thrill.
the Orca MUST be rebuilt!!!!!!!!!!!!
She will all ways be missed nothing is impossible we will see her face again in the future Rest In Peace orca
I'm currently rebuilding the Orca
@@OrcaRebuild How far along are you and how long will she be?
@@OrcaRebuild Much luck! I like many look forward to seeing her.
The orca started out as the warlock
@@OrcaRebuild Guess what the smoky exhaust as not damaged it's not bented and the rain flapper that opens and closes is not broke off it is stuck on the exhaust pipe
Just showed my kids (13 and 16) Jaws and they loved it. They want that boat just as much as I do. What a great boat.
If i was the guy who bought the Orca back then and Universal came crawling to buy it back I would have told them to stuff it. Look what they did to it.
Steven Spielberg was pissed off that the Orca was demolished without him knowing.
They paid the guy 10 times what he bought it for.
@@johnnersinger9771 The Orca should be rebuilt and Marthas Vineyard should rebuild Quints shack as a tourist attraction. The lot where it was built is still there and still vacant. They are losing out on a huge revenue stream. Do you know know how many Jaws fans would love to be able to walk in the door of Quints shack? Martha's Vineyard could make this happen easily.
@@roquefortfiles agreed
Not exactly. Alan paid roughly $5,000 and it was bought back by Universal for roughly $16,000....so doing the math that is 3x what Alan paid, but he only made $10,000 since his initial investment was only $5,000.
Rebuilding a life size orca boat has always been a fantasy of mine too and I wish to build one one day. One day I will. I hope you will one day too
I hope you get it finished in time for Jawsfest 2025 on the Vineyard. That would be the showstopper.
Hope you manage to do it, I've built a 3 ft model which was a lot of work, would love to do a life size orca.

Reproducing the Orca has been my dream since age 6. It’d make an awesome Cobia tournament boat in Destin, FL area. Truly hope you finish this project. I’d like to help.
She's closer to being finished than anyone knows. I just havent had the time to upload videos. Life happens.
I am going to miss that boat
No need to miss it when I’m rebuilding it
R.I.P orca boat :(
Darn movie drove me to purchasing my first boat , 42’ Post SF that was designed and owned by William Post for his personal use . Miss the rumble off those 8v73s !
Bruce has now been restored. The Jaws fans are now all waiting for the other shoe to drop. I truly believe we will see the Orca live again.
Funny that you took exactly this screen capture, at 0:53! (There they added cel animated "blueish windows" in post-production over the real front windows, because the reflection of the camera boat could be seen).
Memorabilia from the Orca should include Hoopah as ballast
Make her right ;)
If you've got the time, could you rebuild the Orca ii as well? Think of how much Jaws fans would be willing to pay to cling to the mast of a sinking Orca.
No. I am not going to sink, pun intended, money into something that sinks and refloats. There are too many things that can go wrong with that! Not to mention the legality of it all! I have no intention of being sued because someone gets hurt or dies in a silly venture like what you described.
@@OrcaRebuild I can understand that. I was also just joking. Your content is awesome.
@@paisleydunbar7218 thank you!
Chief, Mr. Hooper drives the Boat!
Nice
I've always wondered what model of boat it was and if I could ever, however unlikely get my hands on such a worthy vessel. When it's done, you better use it for fishing charters
It started life as a Nova Scotia Lobster boat called the Warlock. Really just the basic shape. It was extensively modified and altered. When the mast was added it was so top heavy a huge amount of ballast had to be put in the hold. The fly bridge was never really operational it was just for the film. The boat was actually steered from the wheelhouse and you can actually see the boat wrangler in a few shots.
Nope, the flybridge was usable. Some of the gauges off to the left side were just for show, but the gauges on the helm l were functional. You can even see the hydraulic steering cable coming up from the wheelhouse and go to the wheel on the bridge...that's why there was that pipe coming from the helm inside the wheelhouse to the roof.
My friend and I created a radio control model of 4O inches including pulpit as a tribute to the film named Amity with sound lights and dialogue, she sails like a dream weather permitting. The 5Oth anniversary is on the horizon, 20th June 2025. I hope a manufacturer of 1 6 scale figures shall create at the very least Robert Shaw as Quint in time.
Hooper!
My 2nd owned the Orca but sold it. Who knew it’d be in an iconic movie
Prove it - chicken fried...….
Ironically I’m in Massachusetts I’ve helped worked on a lot of boats
R.i.p orca...😔😔
There’s no need to miss it when I’m rebuilding it
Are you of any relation to the sadly defunct Operation Orca? Or have any familiarity with the project and/or Fred Stine?
dredwine11 no I am not, sorry for the very late response!!
To preserve that boat would have been peanuts in terms of effort and cost compared to having people pay to visit the boat even today? Same with the sharks being left to rot after the movie? Those could have been used for all kinds of cool attractions and people would absolutely love to go see them for decades.
you know you cant change the name of a boat or ship that is pure badluck
ludsat1 you do realize that you can change the name of a boat or ship and it not be pure bad luck? There is a renaming ceremony that you have to do in order not to have any bad luck. I don’t believe in all of that hoodoo voodoo none sense, but I’ll still do the ceremony since it is a tradition.
ludsat1 besides, tons of boats and ships have been renamed countless times and nothing bad ever happen
Please do a series on how you built it
Ao Gamez that’s what this channel is for, I’ll be uploading videos to the channel soon
Olha cara desculpa por eu não falar em inglês mas sim o orca é um barco muito bonito sim espero no futuro fazer uma barco igual
Sem problemas. O Orca é um lindo barco.
How long was the original Orca ? What year boat was it if you know? I’m so glad your doing this !
It was roughly 40ft. As for the year, it was built sometime between 1950 and 1974. The style is called a Novi/Cape Islander hull, and that hull style is no longer around. It was a custom build, so it wasn’t a brand name like Elco or Matthews like a lot of people think. Be sure to keep checking in on my channel, I’ll be releasing Season 2 soon!
@@OrcaRebuild I will watch for it . I will fill your tank with fuel ⛽️ to get a chance to go out on it .
@@intensivemanagement She’s going to have an awfully big tank lol. Shoot me an email OrcaRebuild@gmail.com
It was 51 feet
How universal allowed the orca to rot away was absolutely disgraceful, however to see a replica orca one day on utube would be awesome.
Well, if you follow my channel here, then you are getting to watch me do exactly that
Well, if you build it....may as well put up Quint's place to park it at ..even though the original was temporary.
I thought about this a million times. you would have to make her from scratch..
Do you even know how big that boat was?
Andes Productions she was just a little over 38ft with a little over 12ft beam. I have full specs on her
Andes Productions no need to build from scratch when I have a boat that matches her dimensions, hull shape, and etc
It was a 50 foot old lobster Boat. It was called the Warlock.
Andes Productions she wasn’t even 50 feet with the pulpit. Without the pulpit she was as OR said, a little over 38 feet. The pulpit stuck out, from the end of the bow, 8 feet. 38+8=46. A boat’s OAL is measured from the bow to the stern. The pics in the video of the Warlock clearly shows with people on her that she wasn’t 50 feet.
Hi i was at universal in 1978 got sum fab pictures ,got 1 of the shark 🦈 Cumin up along side us it was taken with a old kodac box camera it's just amazing pic ,, when did universal sell orca ?? I must visit the place it was filmed at Best wishes from Durham England
They didn’t sell the Orca. It rotted in the pond and they removed it. Can you email me those 1978 pictures?

Hey how’s the orca lookin so far?I’ve been in love with it since I first saw Jaws. Are you gonna give it to universal to replace the screen used one?
She’s lookin’ good!! I’m gonna start uploading again really soon. No, I’m not gonna give her to Universal, she’ll be my personal vessel. Universal, unfortunately, has a track record of not taking care of their props…the Orca is a prime example
@@OrcaRebuild ben gardeners boat and the delorean, which I also have lots of respect for, being other great examples.but thats a good choice not giving her to universal.don’t want to risk your hard work being destroyed like the og unfortunately was.
@OrcaRebuild god looking back at my comments makes me realize how bad my grammar was lol. Anyways just wondering how you been and how the ships been coming along
Why did Universal let Orca rot?? It was a staple in their studio tour and a piece of history. It was also making them money due to visitors looking at the real boat in the tour ride. Matter of fact, it would have been sold for a hefty price to a collector if they wanted money ( they don´t need it ).
Universal has a LONG history of letting movie props rot and go to waste. The Jungle Explorer tour vehicles and the Jeep’s from Jurassic Park are prime examples
Sorry but you are wrong it was sold to univeral studio and used on the jaws ride where it sank in their lagoon due to lack of maintenance and was parted out decades later when the last 10 ft section was sold to a private party who chopped it up and sold it as movie memorabilia. There was a great jaws documentary about it.
I’m wrong about what exactly? With all due respect, you are missing a few key details. The original Orca was sold to a production crew member after filming, after Jaws became a success Universal boat the Orca back from him roughly two years later and put in on the backlot tour ride in Hollywood where it sank in the lagoon. From there the Orca was chopped up and taken to the dump. The “parting out” you mentioned was done to the Orca 2 that was used for the sinking scenes. The Orca 2 was a fiberglass hull molded off the original, and the original was made of oak wood. The Orca 2 was sold to a local named Lynn Murphy, who helped tow equipment for the production crew, and after filming he bought the Orca 2 along with the S.S. Garage Sale and the shark barge. Lynn kept the Orca 2, S.S. Garage sale, and the shark barge, on his privately owned section of beach in Menemsha until he decided what to do with it. The Orca 2 was parted out decades later as you mentioned and one inch by one inch pieces were included in a special limited edition version of the Memories from Martha’s Vineyard book. You are half right, but were missing a few details
@@OrcaRebuild I thought Orca 2 was made from Balsa wood…am I mistaken? LOVE what you’re doing!!
@@tomulator her hull was a fiberglass copy of the Orca I, the rest was wood
@@OrcaRebuild when you finish her, reach out to Universal and sell her for a MINT to them! Also, have you thought about reaching out to Spielberg about funding your project? Maybe he’d want to buy the finished boat…🤔🤷🏻♂️😁👍🏼
@@tomulator hell no. I’m doing this boat for me, and I’m not in this to make money; it’s not about that. I’d build another for Universal no problem, but I’ll NEVER sell mine. No way. I’m doing this all on my own and on my own dime, I don’t need the funding. I’d love for Spielberg to be involved, but that’s a long shot
I value my neck for alot more than $3,000 bucks chief
Ive seen video footage before of the orca half buried in sand next to the camera barge used in jaws..unrecognisable..if this is true its so sad.
What you’ve seen pictures of is the Orca 2 (the sinking orca that they made for the sinking scenes). The working orca was retired a few years to the backlot tour in Hollywood after filming wrapped. Unfortunately, she rotted on the backlot and was then scrapped
@@OrcaRebuild thats a shame..i would imagine that it would be one hell of a tourist attraction if it still existed..thanks
Old version of a 31 Bertram
The Orca/Warlock was not a Bertram, neither is my boat. She was a custom build Cape Island.
Got a scheduled completion date?
Chumpy the Anteater yes, 2-3 years. I’ll be uploading videos to the channel soon
Orca Rebuild sweet
I know this is a weird question but. What type of fishing boat mast did the orca have?
Just a regular tapered mast that was actually slight flat on the left and ride sides…it was oval shaped
@@OrcaRebuildwow you responded fast! Thanks for the information.
@@G00FY_G you caught me as I was looking at my phone
@@OrcaRebuild Nice!
Any one knows what happened to the original???🤔
A crew member had bought the original shortly after filming had wrapped. After Jaws became a commercial success, Universal bought her back and put her on the Universal Backlot tour in Hollywood. She sat there from roughly 1976 or 1977 until 1993. She was in really bad shape. She actually sank in her cradle, which was underneath the water, in the pond she was in. Universal tried to use a crane and boat sling to pick her up, but she literally fell apart. So, she was picked up, cut into pieces, and then carried to the dump. To my knowledge, no pictures have ever been released publicly of this
@@OrcaRebuild thank you....sad
WHo's that standing on the Orca at 2:33?
Erick Hollander
The music quality is awful...like it is coming from an old 16 millimeter projector! At least for the first part the video. Sounds better for the rest of the video.
Thanks for you concern, but that is not my fault. It came out great on my end after rendering, it wasn’t until I uploaded it to CZcams that it became distorted. I’m not sure why the first half is bad but the second isn’t
Is this project dead? You haven't posted anything in a long time.
