Country blues master Ernie Hawkins performs "What You Gonna Do" from the new DVD release "Guitar Artistry of Ernie Hawkins." More info at www.guitarvide...
Ernie is another musician who is keeping this music alive and kicking for us, and is an expert in his field. I could hear the influences of Rev Gary, Mississippi John and Lightin' Hopkins in this piece- a real pleasure to hear and to watch being performed. A thousand times, Thank You, Ernie for posting this wonderful performance, and keep up the good work in 2008! Rich, Belfast
Very cool as always .God bless ,there's so many great musicians out there that don't get the recognition they deserve. I cannot listen to "popular radio" anymore simply because it's not for me, in other words it sucks ! ! !
Those of us who attend summer music camps know that Ernie is a great teacher and a devoted student of blues and fingerpicking guitar styles. He may be less known as an excellent performer, but, as this excerpt shows, he can lay it out. I'm glad to hear the vocal in this cut. Nicely done, Ernie.
Absolutely great! There's something that's so hard to find in the acoustic player, a clear & funky sound... Only in a few, shure in Rev. Gary Davis, Ernie, Stefan & Jorma Thanks for post it!
too bad there's no 10-star rating. ernie and stefan grossman deserve worlds of credit for preserving this style of music and presenting it in an easy to follow instructional format. his "guitar of lightnin' hopkins" dvd is brilliant. moderately relevant question: does guitar workshop plan on doing anything similar for brownie mcghee? he seems to be the only one missing from the "the guitar of..." dvd series...
I was once at his house to look at a job and he gave me a cd “Mean little Poodle”....What a quiet Gentleman..Thanks Ernie🙏.
Ernie is a real blues master. He can play simply chords, and make it sound like a full band of bluesman. Incredible playing.
Even holds the guitar like the reverend. Amazing playing as always.
