    Yea. Its the end. The end of a vicious cycle for me... I was ITE college central then went on to SP and then NUS. ITE gave me a chance when nobody would.

      llusium yes for Nitec I believe it’s GPA 3 and above. For higher Nitec it’s 2 and above. However, if you are from some kind of engineering course or whatever course that requires math.. The math taught in Ite is not enough. It will kill most student outright. Do take your time to get acquainted with math in general.

    Personally, I've been through ITE and I would like to say that it is definitely not the end, going through that extra 2-4 years (or a longer route) as compared to my peers (at my age) taught me some really valuable lessons. The teachers in ITE are really passionate and helpful to ensure that you understand what they are teaching and the friendships you made there are really awesome as well. In gist, I would like to say that, doesn't mean you end up in ITE, means people will despise you or that whatever you are studying is useless, but instead you're receiving more practical and hands-on experiences that you will not get elsewhere. So it is definitely not a waste of time.
    Thanks to the wonderful teachers and peers I've met throughout my ITE life, I'm proud to say that I did not just graduate from ITE College East but from Temasek Polytechnic as well, and now I am currently pursuing my studies in SMU. Things are definitely tougher for us as we progress because, to be very honest, I am not the most intellectual person out there, which is probably why I had to go ITE and things are really competitive when peers around me consist of people from Poly and JC and then you have me, the dumber one which can be demoralizing at times but well, life is never easy.
    However, I feel that in the end, you have to know what you want in life and that way, you will do good anywhere regardless of whatever you chose :) Eventually, it boils down to each individual on whether they have the drive to pursue whatever they like in life or not.
    Ps: I think I am not the only person in Singapore that had to go through a longer route, how about ZULA making an episode for people like us(?) #justsaying

    Thank you ZULA for shedding light on such a topic! I was from NT and had to go through ITE after I finished up my N levels, went through the longer route, Nitec in Finance Services, then to Higher Nitec in Banking Services and it took me a total of 3 years to complete both courses. Honestly, ITE was a period of self-discovery for me as i had more time to realise what I was and wasn't good in. Yes, it might've been a lot longer then my peers but I feel like I wouldn't have been able to get extra experiences if I didn't go there. I had really amazing teachers in my course that really helped me and were super passionate! ITE is a place where you can have hands-on experiences! I just graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and just got accepted into SUSS' July intake! ITE is never the end, but a place for self-discovery and for you get extra experiences!

    Very glad that the Zula Team chose a topic on ITE. Passing only 4 subjects for my Os, Higher Nitec was the only choice, and I went to Event Management (back then the campus was at Bishan, spent only about a year at the new College Central campus). The lecturers were AMAZING, they taught with a passion and believed in their students whole heartedly. From my experience, the EVM (event management) students were pretty competitive in their studies and projects. Close to 90% of my classmates went on to poly, and we're talking about getting into 10 pointer-sort of diploma courses in poly. I think I graduated in 2013....I can't remember, but I went to study Hospitality & Tourism Management at Temasek Polytechnic, and now I'm a final year student at SIT. I would say the best times after secondary school was my ITE days, everyone was just so friendly, chill and no judgements at all. Lecturers would always be there to guide you and bring out the best in you. I could still remember my lecturer dashing out of the classroom to pull a girl from committing suicide, just as my classmate stood up to shout "CHER THE GIRL OUTSIDE WANT TO JUMP DOWN". Also saw the parang scene at College Central...but you know what, shit happens everywhere.
    Looking forward to becoming a lecturer at ITE in the future :) !

    I met many friends from ITE at work and honestly, they’re all so nice. One of them mentioned that he used to be really rowdy and basically one of those “gangsters” back in his ITE days, but he has matured and I really respect him as a senior at work. And I agree, don’t judge people based on just their certification (I mean it is needed to a certain level), also look at their experiences and their personality. Give them that chance:-)

    I am super thankful for this video because it is really rare for like videos about ITE and NT. I think personally , i was a NT student and just recently graduated from ITE as well , many people in NT and ITE have really genuine hearts. I personally dreaded NT and ITE when i had to end up in those places and i know people would bombard me saying like i could have work harder but i think Primary school , i really did not put effort till PSLE year only but that is because i just wanted to have fun and enjoy. I did work extremely hard for N levels and got a good score for N levels however i could not get the course i want due to medical conditions and i was not aware that if i put my ITE choices of it being interview based courses , i would only get my first interview and it would go straight to a non interview course so NOTE FOR STUDENTS GOING ITE ( for your choices , if you choose a interview course as your first choice , make sure your next does not need a interview. ) I did learn a lot things from my course although it is something i would not do and do not have passion for but do choose a course you have passion for they said in the video as well! ITE has many hardworking,genuine and really fun outgoing people that i do not regret making friends with at all. The CCAs and many school events really does give you opportunities as well like participating in NDP. I don't regret being part of ITE and being from NT at all because i have learnt and grown so much :-) Thank u for this video!

    I hate the awful stares that I get or when relatives ask where I am studying whenever I say I’m from ITE. Till this day I never regret my choice to go ITE despite my N level results. It’s never the end when one goes to ITE. There are many success stories come out under the ITE umbrella, some went on to be bosses of their own company and making a fortune with their own capabilities and sheer hard work. Nobody should play down people who go to ITE to study. Good video by the Zula team for highlighting ITE. 🤙🏼💯

I was lacking so much in skills and have a lot of low grades, but it invoked a spark in me that I started working hard to land in NYP and have good grades. Love ITE so much honestly. Honestly speaking.. Yes, spending two years might seem to be wasting time BUT.. I have been through that and I have learnt a lot from ITE itself. The hands on, presentation, internship really does help everyone in ITE to gain more exposure in the working life and at the same time preparing ourselves when we are heading to poly. Also, the friendships you get in there are something which you can't get honestly :) I had my fun times there tgt with my classmates and workmates and also my lecturers'. ITE doesn't mean "It's the end" like those 3 person who had been interviewed, it just take a longer route. & I am proud to say I am a graduate from ITE and now in my year 3 in Poly :) It doesn't matter where you studied and all as long you tried your best and just pursue your dreams, trust me you will get there eventually:))

  • @sammiong7001
    @sammiong7001 Před 4 lety +6

    There’s no age limit to learning, I don’t think spending 2-4 years more in ITE is a waste of time. You’re actually spending those years building up your portfolio, and gaining more learning experience.
    ITE and Poly is the same - in the way that there’s theory, there’s practical, there’s projects, there’s internship etc.. what’s different is that ITE’s lecturers are more understanding and helpful, they provide guidance throughout your entire project, like checking your progress, see which one needs further improvement and more. While Poly, you have to rely on yourself or your team members and ask only if you are unsure then the lecturer will help you, or else they usually let you do your own thing.
    ITE is only regarded as “it’s the end” because of some “kids” whom you see in the news, like the one wielding a parang or whatever. Or else generally, in my 4 years in ITE, majority of the people whom I met are hardworking and fun. Even if you’re from NT, NA, or Express - Learning in ITE is a fresh new start. You may have a brain for theory, or have the skills for hands on. ITE is the perfect place to see which one you’re good at. If you’re bad at theory, so be it. Practical helps you. Vice versa. I have seen students from NT faring better than the other streams, I have seen a top scorer coming from NA, I have seen NT, NA, Express getting different kind of certificates. In ITE, no one will be judging you.
    It’s fine if you don’t do well in Secondary. ITE is a brand new start, as long as you are willing, you can definitely fare well. It’s never too late.

    In ITE, the emphasis is much more on the practical skills that are relevant to the industry. In my experience, the practical labs and facilities at ITE are truly world-class. What I saw at the biotechnology labs at ITE East really blows every other polytechnic out there out of the water. All the skills that ITE teaches transfer really well to the working world, at least for biotechnology anyway. Also, I'd like to say that perpetuating the 'it's the end' stereotype is kind of counter-intuitive if the intention of this video is dispel some of the misconceptions about ITE.

    I personally feel that the impression towards ITE has improved significantly as compared to the past, maybe because there are a-lot of success stories coming from ITE alumini in the recent years. ITE= IT’S THE END of your journey here but START OF SOMETHING NEW. 😊

    • @sherlim6694
      @sherlim6694 Před 4 lety +2

      Securing a job with a poly diploma is no problem. You get a very average pay (1.8-2.2k) & you do all the jobs that people don’t want to (more junior level) and it’s very hard for promotions. Well at least that’s from my experience. That’s why I went to Uni

    i think its good to point out also that alot of ite students have very good personal values as well. if u talk to alot of us, most are working part time jobs (some even 2-3) while studying full time and balancing family issues at home as well. obviously im not in poly yet so i cant compare but from my experience, alot of ppl like this. :)

    • @gaminggirl3693
      @gaminggirl3693 Před 4 lety +1

      its because of the circumstances that we are in that we end up having these values which was why i pointed out everything. the media doesnt exactly give us good coverage either bc all u see are the ppl w parangs etc. ud be surprised by how many success stories that came out of ite.

    There are many paths in life, ite is just one of the many. Some do well in the beginning, slack off mid way. Some vice versa. Some did superb in the Uni. But not too well in working life. Life is a ultramarathon. U will fall, stand up and do well again. Or u burn out halfway. Or.... everyone is different, run your own race. Don’t compare. It’s just unnecessary and stupid.
