It might make me trash but I'm still in love with the Jim caviezel version
I’m trash with you lol
Trash is the 2002 film with a script written by a country bumpkin who has no idea of the social rules of 19th century French society.
The film The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) with Jim Caviezle is far from a masterpiece like Emma with Anya Taylor Joy, which shows what 19th century English society was like without anachronisms like the script written by Jay Jolpert.
Jim Caviziel behaves like a simple country bumpkin and not like an educated gentleman like Mr Knightley in Emma with Anya Taylor Joy.
@@FernandoSilva-cr6qo that was a pretty long "well akshully" for you to just agree but cool
So right! That was the best movie, I fell after watching that movie. So handsome.
It is a great movie. I love it. No way you should call yourself trash for liking what you like.
The Jim Caviezel version is a movie I can watch over and over again
Jim Caviezel looked like he should’ve gotten an Oscar for that movie
I honestly don’t understand them trying to do another version of this. Jim Caviezel mastered that role. I keep it on my DVR and watch it often.
The film with Jim Caviezel is rubbish that doesn't hold a candle to the story in the book.
Only Europeans are capable of adapting this book well.
@@user-sv8ol6vu5k The Jim Caviezel version is different from the book and it’s original story but I had me speechless in the end
Jim's was the best. Another remake no one asked for.
This is one of the GREATEST novels that I've ever read.
I didn't like the ending tbh
This is my favourite book ever!!!
Reading this carried me through a personal crisis for real
@@cm8836 Absolutely agree with you. I reread it every 5 years or so.
I have to disagree, for me it is THE GREATEST NOVEL EVER WRITTEN. Period.
Is it just me or would i love for this to be turned into a show? like a 8 parter? There is so much that always gets left out...
Actually there is one. It's a japanese drama, and actually one of the good adaptations of the book. It's called The Count of Monte-Cristo: Great Revenge, and it's from 2018.
One is on its way! It should be 8 episodes, it's in post-production now. Sam Claflin in the main role, Jeremy Irons plays abbe Faria.
There is a 6hr Gerard depardieu version available on CZcams
I watched that version on BBC2 the revenge was cold and awesome.@@Mike_Control
@@LindaGgeit will be shit. Gerard Depardieu's version in miniseries is amazing
It's the most incredible story I've ever read.
Yes
Hard to argue that. 👍
Absolutely. My favourite standalone novel EVER.
And it is a spiritual comeuppance and hommage to Alexandre Dumas' father General Dumas.
Dude, The Bible is the BEST. This story and also The Miserables from V. Hugo are based on the 4 gospels of the NT. ;)
I cannot wait, The Count of Montecristo is my favorite book ever!
Mine, too. I just purchased the book and finished it on my flight back home here in France ( not French so I bought an English version). I also watched the movie version with Jim Caviezel as the lead. I just love the history. I hope this new French version will be half as good as the book!
@@LegumesEtFleursthe mini series with despardieu is also awsome
@@LegumesEtFleurs that’s a big book! the movie with Jim Caviezel was good, but they had to change the story to fit the time length of the movie, maybe a mini series should be made
@@user-on3wl3mh7w thanks for the info I’ll look into it
Just read crime and punishmenr
The best tale of revenge I've encountered. I hope they stick to the book.
This and Les Miserables are just too good as books
You are so right.
They stick
This looks like a really good adaption, good choice of Edmond Dantes
Adaptation. It's a French novel and french movie. Can't be adapted. It's new original
@@felixianto sorry what I meant was the actor's approach to adapting Edmond Dante complex character to screen and the chosen actor is just perfect
I totally agree with all the comments bellow..this is the most fantastic story I've ever read. So difficult to put it on the screen with accuracy.
Dimitri Rassam and Alexandre de la Pattelierre did not change the ending I had read a tweet which said that the ending of the novel was going to be respected he will not return to Mercedes, from what I see he will go alone with haydee d elsewhere in the trailer there is a boat shot where he has a scar I think this shot comes from the end of the film and there is no Mercedes... besides Alexandre de la Pattelierre also said that the Count of Monte Cristo was his favorite book and his father also made a successful adaptation of the novel (He directed the 1979 miniseries that adapts the book without any changes.), no doubt they will not change the ending...
Jim Caviezel version is one of my favourite films of all time. Guy Pearce was a menace in it.
AND Henry Cavill so young❤
The count in this film is not a cuckold like in the caviezle film.
He is an alpha male and rejects Mercedes.
Unless it is at least 3 hours long there is no way to do a good 90'-120' film based on such a terrific book.
Agreed. I've always thought that it needs to be a mini series to do the book justice.
@@darinharvey3171Yeah, absolutely. A mini series would be ideal. Even 3 hours for the movie would probably not be enough. Some old movies based on the book had the same problem, they were too short and there's too much content in the book, content that is actually needed and necessary to tell the story as it deserves. Take the Richard Chamberlain movie, for example, it started out great, they nailed the prison part but then you reach the end of the movie and everything gets resolved in 15 minutes leaving you wondering where the rest of the book went.
I hope they do a decent job with this but I prefer to keep my expectations low just in case.
This film will be 3 hours long.
France has never adapted the book that is less than 3 hours long.
France has already filmed 7 adaptations (with this one there will be 8). There were 3 miniseries, the 1918 miniseries which was a cinema miniseries and the television miniseries of 1979 and 1998, in addition to the film adaptations of 1929, 1943, 1954 and 1961.
Important characters who were absent from the 2002 adaptation, such as Haydee, will be present in this film.
In addition to this film, we will have a television miniseries of The Count of Monte Cristo with Sam Claflin. There will be 8 episodes lasting 53 minutes.
@@user-sv8ol6vu5kWow, call me impressed now. Looking forward to the film and most of all that TV miniseries. Eight 53' episodes is exactly what a book of this quality needs. Awesome news, thanks a lot for the info.
Looks terrific and great that is made by us French people since Alexandre Dumas is a great part of our culture and the OG is in French ❤❤❤
I like the 1975 version of "The Count of Monte Cristo" that starred Richard Chamberlain as Edmond Dantes, as my favorite version.
What is it with Richard Chamberlain and Dumas novels, lol? This, The Three Musketeers (and its sequels), the Man in The Iron Mask, lol.
Always thought this would be an amazing high budget miniseries
I agree
The Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite book !!!
It is because I heard many things about the Count of Monte Cristo since he was a child.
So, I decided to buy the book one day and read it all !!!
After searching through many bookstores in my city, I found it and it was very difficult because after a couple of hours I realized that it was an out-of-print book.
When I bought it, I was reading it on the bus on the way from my house to school and vice versa.
I wasn't bored reading it in the least and it got interesting as the book progressed until I have finished it. Definitely, the best book that I've ever read 👍
My favorite parts are when Edmundo finds the treasure on the island of Monte Cristo and when he starts to reward the people who were loyal to him.
Also when Monte Cristo reveals to Maximilian Morrel that he helped his father and family in the past. Consequently, Maximilian and his sister hugged Monte Cristo
I have always wanted to see a production, whether TV or film, that perfectly expresses what is interpreted in the book.
I really liked Jim Caviezel's movie, but it doesn't express the ending well because Monte Cristo stays with Haydee and not Mercedes.
As I once heard, Hollywood prefers a happy ending; but that is not the point because there were also flaws in the end of the count's enemies
In addition to other things such as the absence of important characters such as Haydee, Maximiliano Morrel and Villefort's daughter
Danglars does not end up imprisoned for theft of merchandise as happens in the movie. Danglars was a banker and ends up bankrupt and without family
Fernando was never Edmundo's best friend, and Edmundo does not kill him with a sword. The book tells that Fernando commits suicide after losing his wife, his son, and his social prestige.
Villefort does not end up imprisoned for the death of his father, but rather he goes crazy due to so many recent emotions and regrets from the past.
I have seen the trailer for this movie and it looks incredible because apparently it follows everything related to the book.
I say this because characters that I did not see in previous productions such as Haydee and Maximilian, they appear in this trailer and besides the sets and recorded scenes are also impressive.
My favorite scene of this trailer was when the Count of Monte Cristo fought several men at the same time.
In advance, many congratulations for this enormous production that I'm pretty sure it's going get excited all the fans of the Count of Monte Cristo and make them very happy !!!
I'm always mad to movie adaptation for The Count of Monte-Cristo, they always made it about how edmond and marcedes get back together, instead faithfull to novel when he found new love in haydee
I love Haydee and Edmond!
Only 4 adaptations: 1922, 1934, 1998 and 2002 with the ending Edmond and Mercedes
Against 10 adaptations with Edmond and Haydee: 1929 (France), 1942 (Mexico), 1943 (France) 1953 (Argentina), 1954 (France), 1964 (England) 1965 (Norway), 1966 (Italy), 1979 (France) , 1988 (Soviet Union).
I hope they don't change the relationship between the Count and Haydee Igaul in the 1998 and 2002 adaptations.
There is a big difference between him and Haydee.
Emma Woodhouse is much younger than Mr Knightley: and the adaptation with Anya Taylor Joy has not changed their relationship.
once a bitch always a bitch. Like in real life.
Say no to fake women and dont be a simp or beta to take them back when they come back after you have money and power.

Have you seen the first movie? That one was phenomenal. Time he spent at the prison and how he got out. I so love it.
@@sherrywelter2981 I haven't seen the first movie. As far as adaptations go, I've seen the brilliant anime adaptation and I've listened to the musical's soundtrack.
I didn't know Jim Caviezel's The Count of Monte Cristo was a remake. I have never heard of it before but I loved the movie. It had everything, betrayal, love, drama and revenge. What more could you ask for? Bc he was definitely pleasing to the eyes, humnum hummun. Sexy fox. Held his character very well to the movie, not the book bc I have not read it. Never get sick of the middle and end. Beginning was a little slow, boring.
Whenever I see a film based on a great book, it's time to read it again, imagine the scenes in my mind and see what matches in cinema. Yes I am a proud bookworm.
Before Batman, there was the Count of Monte-Cristo... Alexandre Dumas' and Auguste Maquet's masterpiece.
What Batman has to do with novel characters
This book holds a special place for me as it was the first one I read, and it remains one of my favorites.I'm certain it will be fantastic!!
one of my favourite book of all time, can't wait
After The Three Musketeers, a version of The Count of Monte Cristo in the original language in which it was written is very welcome.
Agree although the 2002 film was excellent & brilliantly cast
@@FcukBsuh Indeed.
@tiagobarros5666 How was The Three Musketeers?
@@brettfine3444 Well, firstly, I must admit that I haven't read the original book yet. But in relation to the film, I thought it was reasonable. There are good performances. I liked Vicent Cassel's performance and the fight scenes are very good. The production is quite refined and has beautiful photography and period reconstruction. However, there is that feeling that something is missing. However, I still need to see the second part. It's not great, but it's worth checking out.
Mais oui. D'accord.
I love this story but I truly would enjoy seeing a frenchman of color play this part. You know like the author and the inspiration behind the story.
I loved this book.
Pierre Niney : Edmond Dantes
Anaïs Dumoustier : Mercédès
Laurent Laffite: de Villefort
Patrick Mille : Baron Danglars
anamaria Vartolomei: haydee
My fave classic hero. Makes me “WAIT to live in HOPE”
Es inevitable ver esta obra maestra en película, esperaré inpaciente esta versión del Conde de Montecristo
Finally one with actual French speaking actors! I do enjoy the previous versions but this should be something special and am looking forward to it.
The 2002 film version is just as bad. They made it revolve around the boring romance between Dantès and Mercedes, totally forgetting the essence of revenge. Finally the French opened their eyes to make a new adaptation of theirs. It's THEIR literature, the history of THEIR country. Hollywood always tries to appropriate it by making crap ...
I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would. There's a richness to the characters and settings that is wonderfully immersive. There's also a lot to learn about French attitudes towards different ethnicities within Europe (Italians get a pretty bad rap, and of course there is unapologetic slavery and orientalism.) A fascinating book all around.
Loved watching The Count of Montechristo
I have a 1905 version, written in old Swedish, it contains all the chapters in two very large volumes. My only regret with the versions that I have seen through the years, is that they never do the whole story and never stick to the story the do, do. This I dont understand since its one of the best revenge stories ever written while also having a somewhat happy but also bitter ending
This actually looks like it might remain true to the literary work of Alexandre Dumas. While I LOVED the 2002 version, extremely… they did change some things from the book.
At 25 seconds, the actress Anamaria vartolomei, who played Haydee, appears in the teaser.
In this adaptation there will be no reunion between Edmond and Mercedes as there was in the 2002 adaptation. In this film Haydee will be the protagonist's new romantic interest.
@@carvalhosilva541 And so it is in the book that they don’t reunite. Mercedes wouldn’t allow herself to be reunited to Edmond; believing herself to be more guilty than the others who played a part in his demise. Also, she believed that Albert would never allow it because Edmond destroyed his family’s name.
Edmond does fall in love with Haydee in the end. The 2002 adaptation was really good; even with the changes to the story. But as is the case in most instances between a book and its corresponding movie; the book has far more moving parts and is far, far more intriguing. 😌

My character Haydée is oriental in Dumas' novel. Alexandre (de la Patellière) and Matthieu (Delaporte) wanted to make her an Eastern European girl.
My fave book ever. Hope they do a better job than the last movie. It missed the whole moral of the story!
The French Version of Beauty and the Beast is awesome too. This looks good.
It looks beautifully shot.
This is my favorite Alexander Dumas movie and I'm glad to see a French version, I hope it comes to the US.
i was ready to shout "NO MORE REMAKES" but then i heaed the dialogues 😅 good to know that there's a french version coming out of a beloved french classic 🤗
This film is not a remake, but an adaptation of a French classic written by Alexandre Dumas. The adaptation with Jim Caviezel has no influence on this film.
The 2002 film adaptation isn't even the first adaptation of the book's story. France has an adaptation from 1918 and 1929, for example the father of one of the directors of this film was the director of the 1979 miniseries with Jacques Weber.
Alexandre Dumas read Homer (Dumas A., Mes Mémoires, Paris, Bouquins, 2003, p. 590.) and The Odyssey influenced the story of the book. The new adaptation will be more like a Greg epic than a Hollywood action film.
@@user-on3wl3mh7w i know it's an adaptation of The Count Of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas 🙄 i just thought, before watching the trailer, that it was a Hollywoodian one and considering the amount remakes, reboots and sequels being regurgitated nowadays that it would be the case for this movie as well. There is a big difference between him and Haydee.
Emma Woodhouse is much younger than Mr Knightley: and the adaptation with Anya Taylor Joy has not changed their relationship.
That one is definitely the most exact adaptation up to date. Unfortunately, there is a miscast for Mercedes and some other minor issues, but Jacques Weber is fantastic and the miniseries is still the best for those who love the book in its entirety. The second best IMO is the miniseries with Depardieu which has perfect atmosphere, brilliant Mercedes and strong supporting roles, but significant changes to the plot. As for this new movie, whatever good it turns out to be, that will not be enough for such a huge story. Like Dune where even two movies are too few to fit all the characters and story lines. And unlike Dune, Count Monte Cristo is not about visualization of a fictional world, it is about relationships between all these characters, so they are all important...
At last! The Count of Montecristo we all deserve ❤
Jim Cavizel was great as the count of monte cristo. You should check it out
Jim "Jesus" Cavizel rules! 🙌🏻 (and Richard Harris who played a great character in that adaptation)

Fortunately this adaptation of the count is not a cuckold like in the film with Jim Caviezel.
And the count rejects Mercedes.
This film will not defend Cuckoldism.
This film will not have Hollywood poisons arguing that men should accept being cuckolds like The Descendants with George Clooney, The Other Man with Liam Neeson.
