I used to have a tortoise With eyebrows long and wispy My father came home drunk one night And said “ mmm… that pie was crispy”. I scribbled that little ditty on a scrap of paper while sitting in a register office waiting for my sister’s wedding ceremony back in the 60s. She was only 17 , pregnant and was very nervous, I thought it might help her relax and put the piece of paper into her hand. It did. She collapsed in helpless giggles and sailed through the ceremony with a huge grin and without a hitch. We lost her 30 years ago, and I still miss her every day. This sketch brought back happy memories.
Never seen this one - very funny. As a born & bred Northerner, I can say they made a reet gud job o' the accents - (though some sensitive natives will dispute it)
The entire series of the Two Ronnie's including all the Christmas Specials are available on DVD. Showing ALL the sketches, ALL the serials, ALL the song and dance performances and ALL the jokes. If you get the box set you will not be disappointed.
Thirty years later, while watching Bumble and Fogle checking a tortoise on Animal Park,I said to my wife,”Who was it who said Toitoice?”....we soon clicked on this wonderful sketch, thanks to CZcams!
This sketch reminds me of one of our history teacher in my French school who pronounced the few english names and places with such a bad accent that all the students chucked. At one point he said : "don't you worry, whatever your accent is, you'll always find a place in England where they will understand you as it will match perfectly their own accent !…"
Was it supposed to be Yorkshire? I spotted elements of everything from Lancashire to Leicestershire. I think it's just supposed to be a 'rural' comedy accent.
I'll be honest, these two can be bland and Morecambe and Wise can be brilliant, but 9 times of 10 or so it's the other way around. They must have great fun doing the accents for this scene!
I'm American and I understood enough of it to think it was hilarious. And there was a big piece of machinery making a racket in the background where I'm at. Still it was easy enough to get the gist of even the parts I didn't precisely understand. These guys are awesome.
This is no Lancashire accent, so I assume they are trying to take a Yorkshire one off, not doing it very well, they are talking too slow. but it's still funny.
Yes it bloody well is! Everybody's accent is funny to someone with a different accent! And British comedians never stop making fun of non-regional accents (i.e. Received Pronunciation, or BBC English to you!).

🤗🌺
These two are in a class of their own, brilliant.
I lived in South Yorkshire for 20 years and I can vouch that there are people in that part of the world that do talk like this. Eey-up
Sound more like they're trying to impersonate Lancashire accents to me, possibly from the Bolton area.
One of their best sketches I think. Their accents are great, Barker is the best.
They are both sorely missed on TV. They gave us so much. RIP
P Steele I agree
ditto
Barker’s reaction to the meat pie is just priceless 😂

loved this, saw corbett as he lived locally, wonderful friendly guy
no he didnt
We all expected Ronnie C to turn the pie around but it was still hilarious.
"Whatav'I left in thoven..."
Kings of comedy.
This is one of my Favs of these special pair of Ronnies.
I’m 17 and wish I was around back then to watch comedy like this.

Absolutely the best comedy duo! 🤣🤣
Cannot believe I missed this one, priceless! - In particular the bit when he turns it around. Ha!
There will never ever be another two Ronnie's so happy I grew up watching these two classic comedians.
@@mahulad7298 Ronnie Barker was so much better than Corbett though. Much better actor and much better Voice artist. Corbett is shite basically.
RIP Ronnie Corbett, you brought so much laughter to our lives xxx miss you so much 1930-2016 xxxxx
Take a moment to admire the acting
. These 2 were brilliant
I'm from the Birmingham and I can understand it.
God help the rest of the world. Haha

Should’ve gone to specsavers, Ronnie Corbett 😂
The accents are a cross between extreme Barnsley and outrageous Blackburn.
THE BEST OF THE BEST !!!!!!!
The OG Specsavers Ad xD
Brilliant ,an absolute classic
Just brilliant...

I love it! Hilarious.
My eyes are aching!!!
Lettuce test hahahahahahahahaha Gold. When he spins the pie round hahahahahahahahaha
Could see the last gag coming a mile off but still hilarious. Esp. RB's facial expressions. :)
no you couldnt
that's a tartle.
Yon's not a tartle. Yon's a tortoise
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahah
PMSL,,, I don't know how they keep a straight face...
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ronnie C looks a bit of a tortoise himself in this sketch. :-)
There's nowt like as maybe yer right, there.
What'd you name your Tortoise? 🐢
Bentos
"Yon's NONE a tortoise."
NOON a tortoise
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaah
1:23 .... LOL .... din't expect that!
I've always been curious why a doctor has a random piece of lettuce sitting in his practice, lol.
That's probably because he's not a doctor he's a vet.
of course, that makes sense of it all. :-)
He's a vet - not a doctor! So he'll have lettuce to feed to rabbits, guinea pigs, and, yes, maybe tortoises!
.....and meat pies!!
sounds like their auditioning to be the next wurzel gummage or something lol. brilliant stuff as always though xD
some things just work.
Ahahaa that punch line :D
RC: Has ever seen owt look so dejected?
RB: Well, only in a British Rail buffet.
It's not "aught", it's "owt". The Northern English pronoun comes from "aught" but the pronunciation is different.
+DieFlabbergast My bad! Correction made.
Is this the 3D version? :-)))
2:50 - just one man in the audience gets this next joke, when RC quite clearly [because of the voice stresses] says "Let us test"...
I am a Yorkshire lass an they are not 100 per cent accurate with the accent but I wouldnt expect them to be, it all adds to their type of humour.
H
Was it supposed to be Yorkshire? I spotted elements of everything from Lancashire to Leicestershire. I think it's just supposed to be a 'rural' comedy accent.
Silly, low class pedant.
You know they’re doing it on purpose, right?
Hilarious
my guess when this Two Ronnies Tortoise sketch was originally shown in would be - the mid 80s.
Yes, 1985
Looks a decant pie !!!
Interesting an upload of a recording off tv, with a bad aerial at that.
this must of been film using Corbetts' Glasses as a lens XD
Aw yes Ronnie Corbett reminds me of someone?
I'll be honest, these two can be bland and Morecambe and Wise can be brilliant, but 9 times of 10 or so it's the other way around. They must have great fun doing the accents for this scene!
I can easily find room for both
lol tortoise, i wondered where adrian and rik got that from.
gosh i need subtitles for this accent only understood 25%
Wonder if foreigners...ie: south of Stafford understand the dialogue.

Long before the days of PC world...
PC? How does that figure in?
@@MaskedMan66 Political Correctness, my man....
Yes, I know what it is; what I asked was, "How does it fit in?"
+Pat Terson They weren't saying anything against Chinese.
Oh no...
I reckon he put the tortoise in the oven.
is this monty python the dead tortoise sketch ??
*It shunt appen to vet Lad, tek this time and will com'to*
All it needs now is for some American to do a reaction video on it - not a chance!!
There are now several up on YT. Funny to watch.
What part of England does this accent come from?
does anyone know what english accent is this?
Yorkshire I believe (or close enough to it).

😆🥟🐢
such a sad punchline
It's a comedy sketch, you silly, low class missie.
thats a lancs accent
Is it buggery! Sounds Yorkshire to me. Considering neither of them are from the North, it's a pretty good attempt.
It's definitely not a South African accent.
@@DieFlabbergast Thought barmpot was more Lancashire area. In west Yorkshire we used wazzock more.
am Yorkshire and this is not a Yorkshire accent.god forbid lmao
+Alia Kharbach It's good enough for those of us who aren't from Yorkshire. We don't expect perfection - except in comedy - and THIS is comedic gold!
+DieFlabbergast good for you have a nice day
Hi.
prepping ukstyle I think its just an over embellished for comedy purposes haha 😂
lynn leeds Barker's was accurate
What accent is this?
sounds more like a stoke accent than yorkshire
Definitely some Stoke in there
Yons a meat pah
Awful accents from the posh lads. One of the best sketches ever.
This is no Lancashire accent, so I assume they are trying to take a Yorkshire one off, not doing it very well, they are talking too slow. but it's still funny.
Oh for gods sake, what does it matter if they are not dialect perfect? It's as near as makes no difference a Yorkshire accent and a brilliant sketch.
this would go down a treat (not) with the snowflakes of today
It's quite funny, but making fun of regional accents, which is really what they are doing, is not.
idiot - its funny
It was fine 40 years ago. Back in the day, where SJWs were you know what fuck it I cba to get involved. Just shut up and enjoy the comedy.
Eat a bag of cement powder and harden up man! ;)
