The Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest dominate the land in northwest Washington known as the Olympic Peninsula. So, while surrounded by an abundance of pristine public land, our adventure opportunities abound! However, the choices became clear once we learned of the Hoh Rain Forest - a biome we're yet to explore - and the Kalaloch Tree - a local legend literally clinging to life.

What a breathtaking hike, and a sand dollar to top it off! I love that you verified if it was alive before taking it home

The Sand Dollar was not alive. Usually sand dollars have what looks like fur on them which it really isn't but they're furry looking and this one was bald it was dead.

Good find. When we first moved back to WA in 96 one of our first few trips to Cannon Beach, OR we found about a bucket full of sand dollars. Needless to say my kids were loving it but we never had such a find the rest of our 18 years there. Seeing your vids has me missing the coast and NW in general.

That tree was something else and I liked the philosophical spin that David mentioned regarding the tree. Jenni, I have a sand dollar that I found on a beach off Vancouver Island. They are very special. Did you Google the legend of the sand dollar? I think it's kind of cool. Safe travels and thanks for sharing.
