    Merci Nick pour ce résumé en vidéo. Il donne vraiment envie de ce lancer dans l'aventure de la construction et avoir la fierté de naviguer avec le kayak réalisé de ses mains. Mon prochain kayak sera sans un pétrel réalisé à partir de votre livre.

      Building boats is uniquely satisfying. There are very few other projects that have the same combination of aesthetics, functionality and accessibility. Go for it. You will enjoy the project.

    You have definitely inspired me to build a kayak. Actually out of all your plans this one is by far my favorite so the fact that you have an in depth tutorial about it is amazing. I am curious if when you buy the plans you get a list of materials that you used. Brands and such. I actually live in RI so I will probably end up going to the same lumber store that you did. Really truly amazing. It might be a while before I actually get to this build but it is absolutely on my list! Thank you for the videos and instruction.

    congratulations, an excellent job, thank you for your generosity, I would like to know how many days an inexperienced person takes, working 8 hours per day and how much is the cost of the materials, more or less thank you again later I will buy the plans, greetings from milano italia, although I'm from Argentina!

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  Před 6 lety +1

      You would want to plan on about 200 hours of labor, but with time waiting for epoxy to cure, it may take over 2 months.

      THANKS, COST MATIRIALS MORE O LESS?, TOTAL THICKNES? THANK AGAIN

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  Před 6 lety

      Cost of materials: about $1000 USD.
      Thickness: about 5mm.

    Is there room for a forward hatch?

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  Před 6 lety +1

      Yes, there is. The customer didn't want a front hatch.

  • @warcalero

    another question, what gives the robustness' is the resin and fiber glassfabrics ?? what is the total thickness, wood + fiberglass + resin, thanks

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  Před 6 lety +2

      this process makes a true composite material. The results are better than the sum of the parts. the strength comes from the fiberglass and wood combine, all held together with the epoxy resin. the wood has compression strength and toughness, the fiberglass has tensile strength and abrasion resistance.
      The combination is about 5mm thick.

    What was your total build time on the Play?

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  Před 6 lety +1

      I would estimate over 200 hours. Since this is a build for a customer, I put a lot more time into some details than I might do for my own build.

    What is that plastic an gluw that you put over it

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  Před 6 lety +1

      The boat is reinforced with a layer of fiberglass fabric (a woven cloth made from yarns of glass fibers) that are adhered to the wood with epoxy resin.
