- These are my shortcut rows in garter stitch used in many Westknits patterns. In several patterns I instruct to "knit to end of row while closing the short row gaps." This is how I close the short row gaps in garter stitch.

Bravo! I've been knitting 50+ years and I love it when someone comes up with a _simple_ answer to knotty questions. Thank you!
Thanks for making knitting accessible and understandable! You are a great instructor and I love your patterns.
I'm very excited to see this easy way to close those gaps. I'm starting the Stripeometry shawl. I love the creativity and fun in your patterns. There all so gorgeous! 🥰
I am about to start the Garter Marler. This video helps a lot with short rows. Thank you. Your designs are so awesome. I always learn a lot from them.
Thank you, Stephen. I am making your Dustland Cardigan. I hadn't done short rows in your style before, and I just love it. I came here to learn how to see how you close the gaps, and I am just smitten with this technique. Thank you, again!🌷
I love this! I'm doing Stripeometry, starting section 4 and I'm so proud of myself, doing all these new techniques!
Amazing!! Can't wait to see your finished project
Wow. I think you already know this, but you are AMAZING! I’m about to knit my first Stephen West pattern, Dotted Rays.
Haha, I LOVE how you say "slip, slip, together through the back" like as if it were a dance. I guess your background in dance has never left you! :)
This is soooo helpful! I couldn't make sense of any other tutorials while making my Smooth Move shawl and now I feel totally empowered to close those gaps! Thanks so much!
Just bought your Garter Marler paattern, love it ! was looking for cardigan for the multitude of spare end scraps I have, love all your stuff, easy learning for me for short rows. Thank you
Thanks! you are the Best Teacher!!!!
Wow! Thank you for this helpful tip!
This is magic! Thank you!
Love that Stephen West.
WOW, this is amazing
Flipo con las lanas que utilizas, son lindísimas y muy originales, aquí en España no encuentro nada igual. Disfruto mucho con tus vídeos. Gracias.
Cool, great explanation thanks
Where have you been all my life? I'm doing this right now (on your Dustland sweater) and it's SO great. Why have I not heard of this approach to short rows. It's amazing!
Thank you so much for explaining that. Sometimes I guess it is as simple as it sounds. We like to over think things don't we.😄
Thanks for clarifying !
I’ve always have had problems closing gaps on GSR. Thank you!
Omg if all short rows were this easy!! I hate wrap and turns. I wonder if you could substitute this in any pattern that calls for the standard wrap and turn? You are totally amazing!!
Perfect, thank you.
You really ARE a genius
Hallelujah!!! Finally!! I found a way to give me decent looking short rows. While I can make them look decent on the right side of the fabric I could never quite manage the left side.
Thank you thank you thank you!
génial !!!!! merci!!!!!💓💓😘😘😘😘
Feel like I'm in Pokemon, gotta knit 'em all 😂🤣
Working on Dustland. Thanks for this. Short rows give me agita every time. A lot of garments I just eliminate them.
Mind the Gap!
Hey Stephen! Thanks for this tutorial. Do you have any recommendations on how to use this technique for stockinette? I'm having a beast of a time with a pattern that uses the same short-row technique. It asks to PU a stitch from the gap, and it's turning into gap city!
You probably already figured something out but I would suggest either wrap-and-turns or German short-rows. I have used both in stockinette and they turn out well with no gaps to speak of.
Hi Stephen, So you dropped this into your Pierre Pullover pattern. For the short rows in the round, do I k2tog or do I ssk, when I'm closing the holes? Thank you for this.
I had hoped that someone had responded because I'm having the same problem. Too bad!
Please show version throwing style. 😮
Check the Eunny Jang video on short row methods, for the Japanese short row. Very similar to this one, but totally smooth on both sides. This stitches on this one seemed to get big and loopy, and they were hard to see because of the choice of yarn.
Thanks for introducing Eunny Jang to me. Just checked out her video on diffetent ways of doing short rows.
❤️
Thank you...now I know. Hopefully, at 72 I won't forget before I can use it enough to make it muscle memory! Lol
En français SVP merci beaucoup
I don't even understand whatever language it is that you're speaking, it could be Indonesian or Turkish for all I know, but, I'm glad my eyes understand the International Language of " Monkey see; Monkey do "
