- Toledo Police VLOG: Rookies! 64th Police Academy Class
We go behind the scenes for the Toledo Police Department's 64th Academy Class graduation on February 2, 2018 and then follow up with a look at the Field Training program.
The graduation ceremony was the culmination of six months of hard work and training for 38 new officers and one Toledo Fire and Rescue Department firefighter, who will be assigned to the combined TFRD & TPD Fire Investigation Unit.
All newly sworn patrolmen will be assigned to the Operations Division where they will continue their training by working with Field Training Officers for the next four (4) months.
With the 38 academy graduates, the Toledo Police Department is at a strength of 618 officers. The next Toledo Police Basic Police Officer Academy Class is scheduled to begin on July 27, 2018.
The worse thing you can do is refer to a new officer as rookie. As a FTO I always told the new officer training with me we are equal same exact uniform, same boss, same people sign our paycheck and this car belongs to the city/county. I need you and you need me, observe what I'm doing and I'll observe what you're doing, and relax around me being tense intensifies the fear. If you don't know something ask, if I don't know we will find out together. Some people get off on titles, what happens in that car between two officers stays in that car. I never liked snitches or complainers.

Toledo Police have a real problem. Ashlyn Pluff behavior is extremely unacceptable. Their behavior resembles the exact thing they trying to reduce, gang violence

The CHILLS up and down my body that I get everytime I see pictures or videos of a graduation. Just to stand there with that life accomplishment , it gives me tears thinking about. I’m grateful for everyone else here who also has this purpose! Best wishes everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

My first day on the street we were chasing a stolen car through narrow streets & alleys (the senior officer was driving) and I had no clue where we were. The suspects bailed out in an alley and my partner told me to radio in our location as he ran after them. I had to ask someone where we were so I could get help coming our way, but we did manage to arrest the driver. I caught the passenger suspect a short time later.
I remember my graduation day. I had never been so proud of myself or felt so accomplished.

Wow 30 weeks?! That is awesome, more training the better. I thought here in Colorado we had a long academy compared to other states, 24 weeks on average. Great vlog, thank you.
It is 9 months academy in Serbia, then if you take police college it is 4 years, both get 6 months+ on their base for probie period.
30 weeks and these incompetent piggys still don't know the law.

what’s the point of making it so para military. This is a public job not a military job, need to rework that so we have less of a bunch of shoot first ask question later officers.
I didn’t see them teaching the newbies, the citizens rights. Go back and teach them. Some police even supervisors don’t know them. And thats where everything goes wrong, when it could easily be dismissed.

Police training should be MINIMUM a year..more like 2 years should be the happy medium. This 5 month BS is a joke.
