    My mother never wanted to use the regular edger, when my parents bought their house. Reason is the edger can slowly chip away at the cement, which she wasn’t going to pay to have repaired. I own the house now and I’m glad there’s YT videos on how to use the string trimmer to do it. It may not come out as picture perfect, especially when you’re new. But, the regular edger was a tool I didn’t need to buy, I can still use the string trimmer and, although it’s certainly not a competition where the neighbors are concerned, my lawn still looks better. I also use the string trimmer to cut the lawn, until I get a mower. Doesn’t look great. But again, some of my neighbors lawns…

      The edger is mostly for overgrown grass/turf spilling over on paths, sidewalks and kerbs, it's use defines an edge then it can be maintained with a string trimmer, so you shouldnt have to grind away with the edger all the time, just the odd time imo

      @@allistergraham6704 for my purposes, I’m just going to continue edging with the trimmer. There is no “lawn competition” going on here.😂

      @@privateprivate8366 lol fair enough, one bit of advice, if you're cutting your lawn with the string trimmer don't cut so low that you're skinning the ground as you won't have a lawn overtime, just bare soil and weeds

      @@allistergraham6704 advice well taken. But it’s not an even cut, right now anyway. I am not good at this. I’m simply keeping it “legally cut” hoping for probate to end. Might be in the next few days. Might be in 50 years.

      If you have a good edge the edger has a little picket to sit in and will rarely hit the concrete if done right and way less room for mistakes especially for the average home owner who doesn’t have everyday string trimmer skills

    I have both and the blade does a much better job, like 100 times better. Also, I have at least a dozen, or more, Ryobi products, including the vacuum cleaner, and I swear they’re the greatest.

    Thank you for a very interesting comparison. Just one question: Do you still think that it is worth to do with a steel blade while it has a chance to damage the concrete (and blade)?

    • @Suvimo
      @Suvimo  Před rokem +3

      With steel blade you could get a sharp edge in one go ! I used it for the first time without damaging concrete.

      I edge very frequently. The side of the blade hitting the cement and causing sparks to fly is no big deal. Just don’t put the blade down onto the cement while it is spinning, or you could potentially damage it.

      Some cheaper 18v trimmer/strimmers only come with 1 line. They have reasons they give but I also think it's a tactic to give you more reason to upgrade. I just put a small hole my trimmer head and made it into a dual line.
