- How do astronauts on board the International Space Station spend their downtime? Jamie and Adam learn about Chris Hadfield's clever "space darts" invention, and propose a new game for Hadfield to test while he's on orbit. This one involves creative use of duct tape!

In case you missed it, here's the most popular video we did with Commander Hadfield: making space burritos: czcams.com/video/f8-UKqGZ_hs/video.html
Now that's a delicious meal
. Burritos! Yummy
My family got to very briefly meet Chris Hadfield on Canada Day in Ottawa. He is an incredibly nice person and was great with our kids. As a Canadian, I am very proud of the way he represents our country. He has accomplished so much. I don't think you could count how many children were drawn into STEM education because of the example he has set. He is a great singer to boot.

How to shave in space
How to do your nails in space.
How to poop in space.

How to masterbate in space.
How to brush your teeth in space.
How to clean up in space.
All produced to entertain those with minimal intellect..
I'm sure if you or I watched them all we'd be thinking the same delusional thoughts.....

Is Scrabble played in English, Russian, or a free-for-all anything goes combination?
NorthernChev Russian isn’t in the same alphabet. It’s an English version of scrabble
The_Player_0ne yah they use Cyrillic
Good question, I've heard that the American astronauts speak fluent Russian, I imagine it's the same for all nationalities, multilingual. All are extremely versatile in knowledge and practical experience.
@@evolutionhasevidenceopinio5234 The Americans learn Russian before going to the space station however they aren't completely fluent, usually the Russians study English for longer so they mostly converse in English instead.

He's only been in space for 166 days total lol
@X only? that's a lot of days. super cool.

@X oh ok. he's my favorite for some reason. I've seen so many interviews/videos of astronauts and IMO he's the most engaging. I live in Orlando, I'm really wanting to visit the space station now, or watch a rocket launch!

@@stevebano5874 Interesting considering there's no evidence whatsoever that Chris Cassidy said that. Ever. And that Chris Cassidy beamed a message to Earth from the ISS in May 2020: 'There's hope in being united,' said Cassidy when CNN's Rachel Crane asked if he had a message for those of us on Earth. 'When I look down at the planet, it's just a big beautiful spaceship that has 7 billion astronauts on it.'

You, my good sir, deserve a like :-)
This is really funny. But trying to think how they could actually play.
I think they would need metal dice and have some kinda magnetic surface to roll on and stick.
Or just use an online roller
They could probably have a clear enclosure they could spin and use the centripetal force to simulate gravity long enough to get a decent enough die roll.
The real question is would they have enough free time to play a campaign? Doesn't sound like it. Also currently there are only 3 people on the ISS. With 1 being the DM, I can't see a 2 person party working out particularly well.
@@TheRavenCoder old school sorry button might work with a stronger popper and a really viscous liquid inside the bubble
@@loco4halo1 uhhh.... velcro die would work just fine. Sorry, hook and loop die. Just spin it in the air, slightly aimed at the binding surface. You would probably need to scale up the size of the die quite a bit for the higher number sides, but it seems quite reasonable at least.

andrewscott95 Dude, all the games would have been messed up if everything was in zero gravity.. Everything ingame would just be floating around. They need to make games for no gravity..
Think about how much further it's gonna go!
They have a 3D printer aboard now so the design could be refined and improved
marcus dewhurst sweet
yes but printing material is expensive and even more expensive to get on ISS, I don´t think NASA would allow them to use it.
NASA has a contingency for everything. I’m sure some of the budget is allotted for the astronauts to make something in their spare time. Space missions are always full of redundancies. For instance, the food. They don’t really track how much food they use up or restock, the important thing is that there is enough of something to last in the event of emergency.
3:15 his hands are so dirty
I love how he just leaves the items floating in the air
Please do more of this. It has some of the feel that myth busters had. The culmination of these two minds, even making something like a game, is entertainment gold!
Its just so cool how something as simple as a ball of wadded up duct tape and a zip tie looks so cool floating in micro gravity.

Why wouldnt a mouse work? Just seat belt yourself in front of a computer in the same old position like on earth and play. You don't need gravity to hold a mouse on a surface.

8:35 I have that same version of Folio Scrabble and it is AWESOME. It's simply the best version of physical Scrabble there is because the way the game is designed (to keep your tiles from flying around) means you can literally "pause" the game by simply closing it, and store your tiles (the tile holders have enclosures to hold tiles and also clip into underside of the board when enclosed) for when you "unpause". It makes PERFECT SENSE to have it on space missions.

here's an idea: I thought I read somewhere that the ISS has some sort of rudimentary 3D printer on board? how about designing a ball with wind-catching dips recessed into the ball rather than the fins sticking out? That way you retain the spherical shape and might get a better curve to the ball's path...
Lol they wouldn't use the material on a toy ball.
Astronaut : Erherm...NASA...could you send the plans up for a toy ball with fins?
NASA : F*ck off
Recreation is a necessary activity on the ISS, something small and not requiring that much materials, (the sphere can be hallow) would be both inexpensive to make, material-wise, and could result in interesting observation of aerodynamics in a zero-gravity environment. I think NASA would consider it.
Curtis Youngberg I had to design a tool for them the other day (NASA) that had to be multipurpose. It had to be a VERY PRECISE volume and it had to have certain dimensions. Long story short, they are very picky.
ah, gotcha.
3D printers are expensive to use. I doubt they would use use the printer on the ISS, but maybe down here and then send it up there could work.

They should hold an annual lottery where one winner would get to go to the ISS (after a proper vetting and assesment, of course.) It would generate a lot more funding for NASA and give regular folks a chance to experience something world-view changing.
Steverino NASA doesn’t have to worry about funding anymore. And regular dumb people don’t need to be in space getting in the way of astronauts performing experiments.
Regular folks could easily mess up some equipment there. Especially if they had bad intentions to start with.
They did that already. A lottery for school teachers to put their name in to be chosen to get to go to space on the space shuttle. It exploded with the chosen school teacher on board. Doubt they'll try that again. R.I.P Challenger crew.......

jai bro 0 G
CxC2007 Wrong, there is no such thing as "0 G" everything has gravity, even you, think of it as the more mass the more gravity, thats why we are on the earth, it has alot of mass therefore we stick to the ground.
MrTuts4life Not 100% sure, the ISS, has a lot of mass, thats ok, the thing, is that there is no Atmosphere pushing it down, the ISS keeps in Space, because is actually "Falling" all the time, the thing is that the altitude is calculated to "Fall" around the Earth, and that is what generates that 0G, hope someone knows more and can give a better explanation.... anyway, thanks for yours.
maybe if you would have created it in a 3d printer you could have saved some more time!
