  • Does it feel like every single opportunity is caused by a defensive error? Well, there might be a reason for that. Today, I talk about the role of mistakes in football and how to look beyond the obvious to identify weaknesses in the team.

    Another great video, as always! As somebody who is very prone to lamenting mistakes but never really looking beyond surface level at them, it's good to see the level of detail and gives me something to think about going forwards!

      It's something I think people often overlook. They see mistakes, they get annoyed at the player (or FM in general), and looking at it in a wider context is hard. It's a shame I can't use real life footage without fear of copyright strikes - because the Liverpool/Man City game was a wonderful exhibition of how every single chance owed to a mistake somewhere along the line!

    As a lifelong fan of P.A.O.K. I am very happy to have stumbled to this series and I hope you continue having fun with my team as it has been a real joy to watch these vids! It is not often that a foreign streamer decides to start an FM series based on a Greek club, so this is exciting :)
    Mind you, I have been playing FM since it was still called Championship Manager 2 back in the day (1994?). I remember you mentioning in a comment that you started during the Italia "edition" so I guess this makes us both "old farts" :D The thing is that I haven't been able to play in the Greek league in FM since the early 2000's, and this is mainly due to the corrupt state our football has been since even before my time on this earth which sickens my stomach now in my 40s even on a computer game.
    It is not just Marinakis that has f* things up, there is AEK's Melissanidis in numerous occasions (nowadays and in the early 90s), the powerful Vardinogiannis family that owned Panathinaikos in the 80-90-00s, Kokkalis for Olympiacos during the 90s'-00s, the financial scandals with Koskotas before that and the list goes on and on. Our football has been closely tied to politics, with ship tycoons owning teams, having private "fan/hooligan" armies doing their bidding. It is just a messed up situation that frankly no one (especially every Greek government/party) wants to improve/clear up historically. There are a lot of examples, events, facts that can prove all of the above but I don't want to bore you with more details. My post is long enough already, apologies for that!
    PAME PAOKARA! :D

    • @mustermannfm
      @mustermannfm  Před 2 měsíci

      No apology necessary for the long post!!
      Greek football definitely has it's problems with corruption. Finding stuff in English can be difficult, but there's certainly evidence I can see going back all the way to the 70s, and when it's that ingrained it only stands to reason that the only way for clubs to compete is to engage in it themselves. It's difficult as a result to try and find a club who isn't complicit in some manner!

    • @Thelbanor
      @Thelbanor Před 2 měsíci +1

      Well put, I sincerely hope that one day we will be able to enjoy football like they do in most of Europe at least. The doubt and toxicity in Greek football is just ridiculous and has steadily seeped in every aspect of it for decades. It twists your guts just following all the crazy stuff that goes on in courthouses, sport judges, FA offices etc. It's all about what happens outside the pitch. Not worth poisoning your soul over.
      I hope you continue playing with PAOK mate, it's a blast watching. Hey maybe even win a EU trophy eventually, we're certainly in the mix for ECL this year ;)

      @@tarikat6870 😂😂😂 I'm sorry, dude. I'll stick to the normal subjects that everyone else does from now on 😂
      Joking aside, it's one of those subjects I've wanted to talk about for ages, but it's always been too difficult to express. Trying to explain that mistakes are perfectly normal, and that you shouldn't overreact to them, but also that you want to identify who is making them so you can replace them. But whoever you replace them with is still going to make mistakes. Ah, it confuses me just tyring to type about it now 🤣
      I'm worried that Werder might be too high reputation to be interested in me...even if the Greek Super League is ranked above Bundesliga. 2. Hopefully not, but too often in FM, I find a "perfect" job, only for them to laugh at me when I apply! Regardless, I think trying to get to Werder one way or another is a good goal for the career.

    • @Thelbanor
      @Thelbanor Před 2 měsíci +1

      I am guessing you are referring to the whole gun issue that has been in the press. Savvidis has accepted a 2 year ban from football games without appeal acknowledging that mistake. The thing is that many owners have legal licenses to carry guns, the unfortunate thing was that in the heat of the moment he did not leave it with a member of the security team when he got onto the pitch (another mistake made on that day), and took off his coat and it was noticeable, but never drawn. One will notice that the gun is placed the other way around in the holster, a fact that indicates that it is there only for self defense.
      To put things into context, during this match with AEK PAOK scored a goal in the 90th minute, which gave him the lead and by a large percentage the title (double) that year. The goal was valid, the ref went to the middle of the pitch indicating a new kick off, the linesman followed and then AEK players protested. The goal was ruled out, valid, then ruled out again. Savvidis was in the wrong to step in the pitch, but boy during that game and what conspired I am not sure if i could control myself either. Two weeks later, Olympiakos is in Toumba, but the match never took place because the coach Oscar Garcia was touched by a falling roll of paper during the teams' entrance onto the pitch (a common occurrence for fans to throw papers, rolls etc at the start of matches), fell down and started rolling over like he was hit by a truck. Long story short, match was cancelled, Olympiakos won the game on paper 0-3 and PAOK was denied yet another title.
      I am sure that in Russia Savvidis might not be a saint, in the Greek league however and the way he runs the team has nothing to do with Marinakis. One can just google and read exactly how this man operates, just look into the Noor 1 ship story. PAOK was the team that left the pitch in protest during a cup tie with Olympiakos, when the ref was going rampart and ruling everyone in favour of the team from Piraeus. The result was a huge reform in football with many teams joining the "revolution" with one of the outcomes being that all big games/derbies in Greece are since refereed by foreign officials appointed by UEFA. Moreover, VAR was introduced in the Greek league paid by initially by Savvidis who pushed to have it implemented in order for the league to have some sort of meritocracy.
      Once again apologies for the length of the comment, but i hope it helps putting some things in context and giving you an inside look into the "wonderful" world of Greek football :)

      The run is quite incredible. Although there is something quite beautiful about being unable to beat Slavia Prague (no disrespect intended), but then avoiding defeat to Man City. In fact, I actually missed our equaliser in that game. Then had to rush back when I heard the celebrations 😂

      I seldom recommend - it's about finding what you are comfortable with. All the examples in the first half were on Key (with extra rewinding to see what lead to the corner against Volos). For the added Erlingmark retrospective, there were some added from looking at possession lost highlights and opposition shit highlights.
      I do, however, watch on full or comprehensive in pre-season to get a stronger understanding of tactical settings, and those moments help me understand some of the things to look out for in general.

      @mustermannfm  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Do you mean why would the chairman accept my non-negotiable offer?
      A couple of things - I save before the contract negotiations, go through them normally, taking screenshots and progress the game. Then when it comes to putting together the videos, I will load up the save from beforehand, and record the interaction so that it doesn't take up too much time. In these examples, I just cut out the negotiation steps.
      In the first negotiation, the lowest I would accept was a 10% rise from my current salary. From 37k per week, to 40.5k. Every negotiation after this point, my demands will increase. In the second negotiation, the lowest I would accept was a 15% rise - e.g. 42.5k per week. It's the least I should expect, having guided the club to only their 4th league title, and on course to secure their 5th.
