  • Matthäus Niedoba is a UX designer for MAXON who worked on the implementation of OpenVDB-based Volumes in Cinema 4D R20. In this live Siggraph 2018 presentation, Matthäus offers behind-the-scenes insight into the design and development process for Volumes and also shows some great examples of Volumes in multiple projects. You’ll see how Volumes can be use to easily model threads or a screwdriver, or even ice cream and cookies. Matthäus also shows how Volumes can be used in abstract designs - combining Voronoi Fracture and multiple Volume objects to create intertwined volumes, and using Fields to dissolve objects. You’ll also see how Volumes and C4D’s MoGraph toolset can easily create condensation drops on a soda or beer can.

    Really awesome to have Maxon staff doing presentations - that arc/cloner rig was so clever.

    Why is this using old Polygon Reduction when there is a different kind of Polygon Reduction since R19? What am I missing?

    • @lightandfury
      @lightandfury Před 2 lety

      When you've selected the linear field, in the attributes directly below labeled 'Creation Space' make sure 'Objects Below' is selected, not 'Box'. This did the trick for me in R25 just now.

  • @makaki1993
    @makaki1993 Před 6 lety +1

    OK that's was so nice but not for production .
    Because it's to many polygon .In Vfx we need UV for some reason . What ever you made u need to retopology the model.Cinema 4d need to improve polygon reduction technique. Happy to use in motion graphic but i do not recommend in Vfx.

    • @user-hx9gu5nh9p
      @user-hx9gu5nh9p Před 5 lety +1

      The dramatic increase in polygons count is unavoidable also in production. There's not a lot in reduction you can improve further. It's a bit like the JPEG compression, you cannot go much lower than a compromise between quality and weight.
      As it happens since decades, hardware and GPUs get faster and content can get more complex and richer along with them.

    a lot of actions dont work in c4d at all, neither cloner with arc and formula thing, nor linear field in volume builder, this software is really unpredictable, so many stupid default setting

    I've been a c4d designer for 10 years. Sorry guys, you should take a look at the "Boxcutter" plugin in Blender. This is NOT an easy process to make bouleans. You really missed the boat on this design. D+ not good.
