  • From the north the Col de la Madeleine is a daunting prospect. Over 26 kilometres in length and climbing up to 2,000 metres elevation certainly doesn’t take an Einstein brain to work out it’s a serious test for both body and mind. Back in 2013 this was climb number 5 out of 16 during “Les Alpes” (a non-stop personal challenge to traverse the French Alps from Évian-les-Bains to Nice). Although I had to tackle the Col de la Colombière, Col des Aravis and Col de Saisies beforehand all of my attention was on the Madeleine. Mentally, this was the point that I’d focused on, where I’d tricked myself into believing that this is where the ride really began.
Despite its relentless length I absolutely love the Madeleine. Its true beauty is that it makes you feel as though you’re really going on a journey, from forest green, past cascading waterfalls, over stone bridges and beyond. I always have the sense that the Madeleine guards the entrance to the high Alps, as if it’s the gatekeeper to the greats. Make it over its summit and the whole world opens up to reveal a playground of peaks including the Glandon, Croix de Fer and Galibier. What a legend, as a cyclist you really can’t ask for more.
    Start: Feissons sur Isère
    Length: 26.3km
    Summit: 2,000m
    Elevation gain: 1,585m
    Average gradient: 6.2%
    Max gradient: 11.5%

This has completed the set of videos of all the cols I will be climbing this summer.
The production on ALL of your videos is fantastic, second to none. The fact that you have done Q&A sessions and you reply to comments on your videos just shows how much you put into these videos.
I for one am VERY grateful. Thank you.
But, like someone else has said, 6 mins???? Please dont leave as much film in the editing booth. Let us see it! 😜
Plus, thanks to a reply from you, Mike, on a comment on one of the videos, I order a OneLifeID wrist thing with all my details. Cracking idea, not seen them before.

I did this one last July prior to doing La Marmotte. Relentless, it just goes on and on. Patience is all I can say. Descend down the other side and you have your choice of Col du Glandon or swing through the valley and head up Col du Telegrahpe and Col du Galibier.

Absolutely fantastic video The Col Collective , what a beautiful route...the greenery around and then the snow capped mountains and the brown and yellow colours of mountains...the nature is so much more bigger than us...Thanks for bringing it to us with awesome video edits and serene music to go with :) .... Loved the fact that you captured those moments where you enjoyed the surroundings and that it was not just about the ride...Beautiful work....One little query ...the turn you took at 0:40 and 4:50 was same right? Just asking...Cheers :)

Super happy you enjoyed the vid (and the tunes!) I'll do some digging on the start track (I'm away from the computer at the mo). Nearly all of our music comes from various libraries of non-commercial audio which unfortunately means it's not on things like iTunes and (as I've now learnt) Shazzam. Thanks for your support. Mike
