    Love this video! We will be doing this road trip in a few weeks in reverse, from central FL to Maine (we will be camping 3 nights in Acadia), and will be visiting the First Mile Marker. After that, we swing over to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and then back to central FL. Safe travels!

    Probably one of the more authentic videos on vanlife and van conversions! Well done guys - getting actually started on your dreams is a big one! Most people just talk about it..

      Thank you for the kind words! It was definitely intimidating to take the leap into van life (and CZcams) but we are so glad we did! For what it is worth, it is never too late to go after your dreams! (as cheesy as that sounds)

      That is one of the reasons we chose it :) We love our van! But, the trade-off is that you have a lot more extra space! Something we are envious of somedays, oh well haha the grass is always greener I suppose!

      Also, we are using Music Bed for our music! We looked at a few other websites that were offering free trials but found we liked the songs through this site the best: www.musicbed.com
      Hope that helps!

    • @mikeandheather
      @mikeandheather  Před 2 lety

      We used the www.roadsideamerica.com/location/ website as we traveled from Maine to Florida! It was great to find unique attractions in whatever state you are interested in. Just click "map" next to whatever state you want to visit and then it will pull up the red pins of roadside attractions in that area. So you could totally pull up every state you are going to drive through and see what stops you would be interested in!
      If you are looking to travel Route 1 like we did, we suggest using the route1views.com/travel-the-road/ website!
      There are so many great spots to choose from while traveling from Maine to Florida but if we had to suggest 3 must do stops on the route we took, we would suggest stopping in at Acadia National Park in Maine, Cumberland Island in Georgia, and the Coral Reef in the Florida Keys ☺️ Hope this helps!

    • @mikeandheather
      @mikeandheather  Před 2 lety +1

      Wow! That sounds awesome! If you are looking for quirky roadside attractions I suggest checking out the Roadside America website- that is how we were able to find some attractions off the beaten path :) www.roadsideamerica.com/location/
      You will be going through a few states we have not visited yet (so envious haha) so we cannot really give great advice on where to check out BUT what we can do is tell you of some of the places on our bucket list! Through Tennessee we are really looking forward to eventually doing the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Shenandoah sky drive in Virginia. If you drive through Kentucky one of the things we really want to do is paddle board/kayak in the underground caves at the Red River Gorge.
      From some of our travels so far we recommend stopping in at some of the major cities even if just for a day like NYC, Washington DC, etc. Salem, MA is always cool and when you are on the coast a Whale Watching tour is a must! One of the places in Connecticut we did not get to but looks interesting is the Dinosaur State Park! Honestly there is so much to do, hike and see all along your route, whatever you choose to do it will be a fantastic trip! We hope this helps! Have fun and be safe! Let us know how it goes :)

    If you don't mind the questions, how many days and how much money did you budget for the trip and how much did it actually end up being?

    • @mikeandheather
      @mikeandheather  Před 2 lety +1

      We absolutely do not mind! We have actually been asked this question a few other times too and are hopefully going to put together a more detailed description of our route explaining everything including the costs. We didn't keep great track of everything, but we put some quick estimates down below. (Hopefully we will have a more accurate number for you soon)
      You can really make this trip for WAY WAY less than what we spent! We know that the cost of our trip is on the high side (at least for how we usually travel) but we splurged when we got to Florida in our "Entertainment category" of our budget, which brought the cost of the road trip way up! If we didn't do that the cost would have been significantly lower. I am not sure if you have watched through all of our full road trip videos, but just as an example, our swimming with sharks experience was $465 alone. (This experience could easily be cut. If you still wanted to snorkel there are much more affordable options, like going to the coral reefs in the Florida Keys! Which is arguably equally as cool... swimming with sharks was just on our bucket list)
      Again a really rough/quick estimate would be the following:
      -Gas: $640
      (or about $40 per day- our most expensive category outside of entertainment)
      -Food: $150
      (we are not foodies and were able so cut back on our food spending eating mostly sandwiches and meals like that- we did eat at the Rt. 1 Diner which was about $30 and Red's in Maine which was $60 (which is a crazy cost but we had to try the famous sandwich haha))
      -Accommodations: $30- for the campsite in Maryland
      (we used the iOverlander app to find free camping spots and stayed in lots of Walmarts and Cracker Barrels to save money everywhere else)
      -Entertainment*: $660
      We put an asterisk here because this is completely customizable depending on people's budget and their interests. As well as there are so many great FREE things to do along Rt. 1 you could still have an amazing trip without paying for "attractions" (Shark snorkeling- $465, Acadia National Park entrance- $30, Cumberland Island- $60, Fort Knox Observatory- $20, Mystic Seaport Museum- $50, Salem Witch Museum- $30)
      --> We did not include Disney in this cost, we actually used some travel points we have on our credit cards to cover our Disney tickets so it did not cost us anything! We can elaborate more on this if you would like :)
      The biggest thing that we want to stress is that this trip can be done for cheaper, we do not want to discourage people from taking this route because it is 100% worth doing! Even gas can be cut down (in the sense of cost per day (if you are able to drive the route slower) and deviations from Rt. 1- for example Cumberland Island is well off of Rt.1 which we had to drive to and then return to Rt. 1 because we wanted to drive the entire route) There is a great website called route1views.com were you can find attractions and interesting spots, mostly free, along Rt. 1 that you wouldn't need to drive far to and thus save money on gas and entertainment.
      Please let us know if you have more questions! We hope this helps! Hopefully this wasn't information overload haha
