Fighting promotions date way before the UFC. But the UFC had great marketing at a great time. Like "the oldest profession in the world", fighting is very appealing to us.
Powerslap in my opinion, does not fall in that category. I understand it has a small audience, but I personally don't see it prevailing or replicating the success of the UFC.

I don't understand the narrative of hoping that Curtis loses so that he's not who would be next in line for Jon to fight if he doesn't retire. We've gotten so focused on Tom that we've just decided he's the best, to the degree that many people will still think he's the best regardless of whether he wins or loses. Curtis is a very tough matchup for Jon as well, and with him being a much more well established name in the division, it could be more likely that Jon would fight him than Tom.
