Jace acted like a complete moron in this story, if it hadn't been for him, they would've reached the tree before it connected to any other planes. Also, I don't understand why they went to New Phyrexia without a way to blow themselves up in case they got infected. I mean they knew it was going to happen to most of them. So Jace is infected…. I can’t imagine one of the most powerful mind mages in existence being suddenly evil having any damaging consequences. But it kinda raises the question on how Jace WOULDN’T have a plan for this. I mean he’s the “I have backup plans for my backup plans” guy. I think a pretty cool direction to go in would be to have him as a parallel to Ajani making himself a sleeper agent. Possibly having him spread his mind magic throughout phyrexia for a Liliana esque betrayal like in war of the spark. Either way I’m excited though if this pulls an avengers endgame with time travel nonsense I’m going to be a little upset. If Jace truly is Compleated with no ability to return it is going to be SCARY I mean he used to just take hammers to peoples minds. Phyrexian jace sounds like a nightmare for our heroes.

      In the Ixalan story, an amnesiac Jace rediscovering the extent of his powers for the first time described it as being like "a sledgehammer surrounded by cobwebs"
      Imagine if Compleated Jace Planeswalks away and starts drenching those cobwebs in Phyrexian oil. And not just on one plane.
      Jace could infect several important figures on Ravnica over the course of an afternoon, let alone what he could accomplish in a day. He is the most powerful telepath in existence, second only to a fully powered up Nicol Bolas. Why are the Phyrexians keeping him confined to just one plane?

    Also, I still don't get how it took Phyrexian all that research to compleat the first planeswalker, when now it sounds like some glistening oil in a wound was all that it took anyway... I guess that WotC is too busy making new Secret Lairs to actually care about some coherent lore.

      @Exaar Před rokem +1

      Yep, this is the big question I had. In the past, the glistening oil got not compleat planeswalkers- the whole reason New Phyrexia exists at all is because Karn unknowingly tracked it onto Mirroden, because it was on him but he didn't know because it didn't effect him. Jin-Gitaxias had to research this new way to compleat planeswalkers because the traditional way didn't work.
      Now in these stories, it seems like all it takes is a single drop of glistening oil getting on them and they get turned just like everyone else? Totally goes against all the past lore and I haven't seen any explanation offered for it yet.

    Because phyrexian oil is the blood of yawgmoth, which makes it incompatible with planeswalker sparks. that was always the lore. I feel like every chapter has me questioning if these characters have two brain cells between them. 1st Nahiri is trying to keep her infection a secret from the one healer that can help until she is too far infected to be used in the battle. 2nd they continue the assault despite without retaining the meeting place with scattered forces. The side story sees Nissa get infected then just shrug it off, and Lukka just accepts the infection as power. 3rd gives us the Romeo and Juliet story of the double suicide + everyone is exhausted to the point that Nahiri just has to kick to bucket. 4th everyone just walks like it’s Lord of the Rings, and 5th they decide it would be better for phyrexians to take over the multiverse than to “potentially” destroy some planets. I’m not saying the writing is bad, but the story justifies everyone’s death through their own stupidity.

      Nahiri wanted to be cured, its in her character. She is selfish yet mission oriented. Melira did tell her that there would be few days recovery if she cured her and because nahiri is the strongest/most ancient planeswalker among them, they needed her to push through. So she sacrificed herself the moment she delayed the Melira's cure, she accepted the risks, she knew what was at stake from her point of view but the mission must be completed. So... Yeah xd apart from Nahiri, i agree that there are some questionable moves from planeswalkers, Jace especially was so rash to do something so stupid, pretty out of character with "love" lacking in justifying it.

    I mean old pyrexian had the problem of not being able to freely planeswalk and their means of reaching the universe were limited
    An planar magguffin able to grant them access to other plane freely is something to destroy immediately
    I get it
    The problem now is that pyrexia had already a planewalker in tamyo and realmbreaker seems a little bit redundant
    Yeah maybe it can grant planar portal stable and big enough to send armies
    But destroying it can really stops planeswalker to jump back to the Viking plane to obtain more sap?
    Or does it stop the turned planewalker from jumping around with glistening oil seeding other planes?
    I don t know
    The moment you give pyrexia this kinda of planewalker powers it is kinda game over
