    In this video we teach you how to install the Ecobee thermostat with the PEK or Power extender kit. When your existing thermostat does not have a common wire. In the video we install the Ecobee thermostat on a typical 4 wire system with heating, cooling and fan control with the (R, G, Y and W) wires.
    In this configuration the Power extender kit or common wire adapter kit are required for Ecobee installation.
    The Ecobee Thermostat is currently the highest end model in the Ecobee lineup. It allows you to remotely control your HVAC system from your phone. The Ecobee Thermostat is also compatible with Alexa, Siri and Google Home voice commands.
    You can also connect room temperature and occupancy sensors to the ecobee thermostat to remotely monitor the temperature throughout your home and better manage the temperature in different parts of your home.
    The Ecobee Thermostat also has Alexa built in directly in the Thermostat so that if you want to speak Alexa commands directly to the Ecobee Thermostat you can do so with the built in Alexa microphone and speaker on the Ecobee.

    2. Remove the existing thermostat cover, confirm the wiring and take a picture.
    3. Take a picture of the wiring and then go to your HVAC system to install the PEK Kit.

    Bought the Ecobee and was praying that am not one of those that would be needing to do extra work because of no C wire in my thermostat. And of course I ended up needing one. Went to my HVAC the wiring were not straight forward colors. And I said Nope! Not risking damaging anything. Reluctantly scheduled for a tech to come in and take care of the installation. Woke up the next morning, went on CZcams and as God wanted it, I stumbled upon your unique video. You wiring in the HVAC and thermostat were similar to mine. I follow every single instructions as displayed and it worked flawlessly. Thank you very much boss. Highly appreciated 🙏 🙌

    For a heads up for anyone in my same situation. My thermostat didn't have a C connection on it. I went to my HVAC to install the PEK, and realized I did have a C cable coming out of the thermostat cable housing (the end was disconnected and wrapped around the housing itself), as well as a C cable coming from the main control box. I went back to go check my thermostat, and turns out the C wire was taped off and sitting behind my thermostat, unconnected. So, my system was in fact set up for the C cable, it's just that my thermostat didn't use it. Back at the HVAC I spliced the C cable coming from the thermostat housing to the C cable coming out of the main control box. Proceeded to setup using the C cable instructions, and it worked like a charm! I don't know how universal this is, but my C cable was blue.

      @diwu16 Před 2 lety +2

      Omg this is incredible. I went and checked and saw the extra blue cable unused and wrapped around the bundle. So I wonder if there's any chance that the C wire was already setup in the HVAC system? Sounds like a headache having to climb up there and I don't have a ladder. Btw so thoughtful of you to post this!!

    • @ericschmidt7351

      @@diwu16 It's possible the C wire is connected at the HVAC, but I really don't know. This is my only foray into AC! I can't see any harm in trying and seeing what happens. At the very least, if you do have to go up there, you'll learn a bit more about HVAC. Good luck with the project. Glad I was able to help!

    I had a Trane system that did not even have a C connection at the inner condenser. It also did not have a W connection. After multiple attempts, I figured it out by looking at a wire diagram attached on the panel. There was a blue wire labeled 'B' and this ultimately connects to a 24v potential. So I connected the C wire on the PEK to this terminal. It didn't work at first. Then I noticed what looked like a mini circuit breaker or fuse box in the panel. I flipped all the switched to the ON position and then the Ecobee would work

    I have a question so I think I have a dehumidifier downstairs, but I don’t really know how it works or anything. Would I click that I have an accessory installed?

    Question,
    If my thermostat has a jumper between RH and RC, can I install this? Thanks :)

    I know this is an old video but hopefully someone sees it and gives me a little insight. When I decided to upgrade to a smart thermostat I only had 4 wires, R W Y & G. My instruction guide said in my circumstance to connect the G wire to the C at the thermostat. Moving over to the HVAC unit I moved the G wire to the C terminal and used a jumper wire to connect the Y and G terminals. The only about this route is I'm giving up not being able to turn the fan on to circulate air without the heat or cool function being used. Is the PEK box doing basically the same thing or is there some kind of wizardry inside the box making it so you can use the blower motor independent of the heat and cool functions?

    Can you still use the fan, independent of AC or heat running?

    I have a breaker to my hvac so if i get to change the thermostat, i will turn the breaker off but i turn it off because my hvac was staying on for a few minutes
